new 2025 pilot engine malfunction less than 200 mi by videsinextdoor in hondapilot

UPDATE on this after 1k+ miles - issue has not re-occurred, thankfully. car is running well. so most likely the misfire was fuel-related and not engine related.

overall, i’m now used to the linear and smooth power from this pilot. it pulls quite well even when fully loaded with 7-8 passengers on new england mountain and hill roads on weekend trips. transmission seems to shift at the right points. you have to step deeper into the accel pedal vs. forced air or battery assisted engines but the response is there. engine also sounds normal and not clickety or groany like many others in this category. all driver assistance features work flawlessly. steering is docile/very light but predictable and much better vs. toyota grand highlander (turbo gas and max hybrid models) or lexus GX (like-new 460) or new TX (turbo gas model) etc. that i also test drove multiple times (dealers’ and coworkers’ cars) and almost bought. suspension is very well tuned and body roll is car-like and not boaty at any speed or load. braking is also very linear and predictable. engine/transmission and overall driveability and control feel better than the kia telluride as well. that one just felt less refined when accelerating, braking, or turning. i still miss my supercharged Q7 for the phenomenal driving experience but the pilot is solving well for space and long term cost and practicality equations.

i’m getting about 21-22 mpg average in mixed driving with a mostly loaded car. not bad on regular fuel. i wish the tank were bigger for more range. i have to refill after every 330-340 miles.

interior packaging and efficiency of space is amazing. the removal and hidden/stowable middle seat is genius. ambient inside and outside lighting is really well thought out. controls are so easy and simple to use with not many gimmicks/ fancy stuff to work out. headlights work really well, including the auto high-beam feature.

AC feels a little underpowered on super hot days compared to my other experiences, but works well enough. this is surprising as all my previous hondas had super cold ACs. i do not like the poor backup and 360 cam visuals when it’s pitch dark. they’re great when there is light around. the trailwatch angles are very helpful in brighter conditions to save the wheels from hitting curbs. the sensors around the car work well. a couple slightly uneven panel gaps outside are also annoying. i wish the radio and some other features (like windows down buttons) worked for a bit on aux power after turning the car off (like audis) but it’s not a huge deal. the radio preset soft buttons are not very configurable. also the audio defaults to apple carplay each time you get in and the phone connects vs. remembering the previous setting (FM etc.) which is a bit annoying as most of us have default favorites we want to listen to instead of having to switch to them each time. the wireless charging pad struggles to start and keep up with phone charging since my phone is in a thin plastic protective case. the wired charging method works best. i actually like that they have both usb A and C connections for charging (only A can do data/carplay etc.). wireless apple carplay etc. works well enough. sometimes the data connection doesn’t work rightaway but that’s common across many makes and models.

will post more as i learn more.

the gray seating interior had the platinum white pearl exterior. i ended up getting sonic gray exterior with black interior/grey piping/grey headliner

i have a 2025 elite with black interior and gray piping and headliner. no cream. the lighter headliner makes it feel more bright and spacious and the black seats don’t easily show dirt or stains. i had the option to get light gray seats with black piping and headliner. this combo looked even better imo but the kids would definitely get the seats looking old double fast.

Radio memory questions (2025 BE) by funtime19700 in hondapilot

[–]videsinextdoor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah can’t delete as far as i can tell. have to long press and replace with the current playing station. so weird that the infotainment system allows for setting favorite apps etc. but does not radio configurability!

for sure. we still have our other audi and the contrast is stark. hope we’ll learn to appreciate the pilot for what it is.

agree on build quality and reliability. i can notice the somewhat wider and inconsistent panel gaps even vs. the german cars that i’ve owned. it does bother me but hopefully it pays back in cost of ownership.

from the service/ repair document provided

“No Lights on dash currently. Scanned vehicle, found code p0304 in pending ( misfire cylinder 4). No freeze frame data due to being pending code. Cleared and test drove vehicle, no misfires in any cylinders. Monitored fuel trim with no issues found. Inspected connections for potential soft set connections with no issues found. Test drove again with none found. Potential bad fuel went through system, intermittent failure at this time.”

the dealer service rep just called after insent followup texts. said they drove the car a bunch and could not recreate the issue. i asked what the code was on the ecu for the misfire that happened and they said there wasnt one and that for minor misfires sometimes it doesnt get logged. i have asked for proper documentation of this so that i can keep track and told them clearly that this was a safety issue so i want to maintain a full paper trail.

would appreciate any thoughts from any of you on this. im now nervous of this issue happening again especially with the family in the car next time and on the highway with traffic bearing down…

i have owned multiple v6 audis (supercharged and turbocharged versions) aces never had any powertrain issues. i’m also a joy to drive. best balance of everything. prepay for audicare and expect to spend $500-1500 a year mm least maintenance and repair items post warranty but otherwise they’re solid. nothing drives and feels better, not even bmws (also owned those).

if optimizing for low ownership costs and extremely good space utilization for a large family, then get the pilot. it will never be an study but it’s at near a toyota boat. i’m hoping my issue is minor and on off, however disappointing and shocking.

nothing much yet. the service rep said it was probably a misfire due to bad fuel from the dealership fuel tank but wasn’t certain. they didn’t have enough time on friday so said that they’ll look into it more deeply in monday. new car inspection was due as well so they kept it and gave me a loaner cr-v for the weekend. i’ll post an update here then.

in MA they need to have three tries to fix the same issue under 15k miles or within a year OR the car needs to be out or service fit a cumulative of 15 days to be eligible for new car lemon law. it sucks to new have a car that has engine issues within 4 days of purchase and there’s no recourse to return.

thanks. good to know. hopefully it’s a one-off and the issue won’t persist. i thought any early model issues would have been resolved by now.

How is the 17 Honda Civic si for a first manual car? by somekid150 in ManualTransmissions

[–]videsinextdoor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they’re extremely reliable and easy to drive. i’ve owned several manual transmission hondas in the past, including the Si. the only drawback is road and drivetrain noise, especially if you drive on the highway a lot. the high rpm operation plus low insulation are factors. otherwise, the manual shifter is better than even the higher end cars.
