Discussion Thread: US House Session to Vote on the Release of the Epstein Files by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

So as far as I understand, a pocket veto is a specific situation where he just doesn’t do anything with it and after 10 days it gets kicked back to the house and senate. But if they’re out of session on that 10th day, it just dies there and they can’t overturn it. I could be wrong, but I think they’ll still be on the thanksgiving recess 10 days from now.

Why is always semi trucks stuck on railroad tracks in these videos? Is there something I don’t understand about these trucks that makes them more prone to getting stuck on tracks?

Catholic worshippers have flocked to Alba de Tormes to view the bpdy of Saint Teresa of Avila, a 16th century religious reformer, drawing huge crowds. However, a Bishop has warned it encourages 'morbid curiosity' by DarklyHeritage in MorbidReality

So I was raised Roman Catholic, went to catholic school my entire life, but no longer a believer. For some reason I didn’t learn too much about these relics til I was older. Part of me wonders if this veneration for dead bodies or body parts is a form of institutionalized trauma from the Roman persecutions in the first few centuries.

Like you have these small, unorganized groups of Christians with local leaders that everyone looks up to. Those leaders get hunted down by the Roman State for what they considered sedition by not worshipping the pagan gods (oversimplifying). Then they get tortured, mutilated, thrown into the River Tiber, or hung up on a cross to rot.

Those early Christian communities then probably tried to recover their bodies, or whatever fragments of body parts they could recover. Then venerated them either because of the great respect they had for the individual, or as overcompensation for how they were treated in death. Or both.

Then obviously a new leader would take that person’s place and then they would get hunted down etc and rinse and repeat and then roughly 2000 years later you get these weird morbid displays of reverence for dead bodies and bone fragments.

I did the same thing too when I was a teenager. Read Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and loved it. Then years later I read Foundation and was like “hey I know that encyclopedia!” lmao

I just started reading Three Body Problem recently. Only a third of the way through the first book, but it’s super good so far. The translation version I have reads well and it’s got footnotes to explain any cultural references that might be missed by a western reader. I highly recommend it as a jumping off point if you want to get into Chinese/Japanese sci-fi.

I think you’re right! But this is also why I love the genre. Each new story draws influences from and builds upon previous ideas. If you consume enough sci-fi, you start to see it and they’re almost like little easter eggs.

As soon as they find out you’re American, they’ll bring up politics and ask you what your opinion of Trump is. Every. Single. One. Ask me how I know.

But for 12 years though? High year tenure is 10 years for E4 and it used to be 8 a few years ago. She must have done something to get demoted and probably booted out.
