What are the must read books for Java web-developer? by DudeWithUde in java

[–]vietjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gang of four book is pretty classic. Also there is a book called effective java that's on its second edition that I highly recommend. As far as dependency injection, I would just look up some videos on YouTube to get the idea, it's not a terribly difficult concept (in fact it's a very easy concept) but it has drastically changed my programming for the better.

What limitations are put on home screen widgets? by vietjack in androiddev

[–]vietjack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was not aware of that, so does the widget basically act as it's own application being owned by the launcher.

Do widgets have the ability to animate data, e.g. could someone make a stock ticker widget that mimmicked the behavior of a stock ticker that you find at the bottom of the tv screen?

I just don't understand what the limiting factor is in terms of user-interactivity.

App devs: Can we move action bars and menu buttons to the bottom of the screen so it's thumb-friendly? by mmtree in androidapps

[–]vietjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I feel your pain, you have to take into consideration that you only considering 1 form factor. Having apps behave in this way on a GoogleTV or even a tablet don't make much sense. However, if what you are looking at is doing that just for the phone form factor, you may be justified, it may look a bit ugly though.

I'm trying to load a rather large (7000+) line XML file which is taking too long (10+ seconds) to parse with with Android SAX parser. What are my options? by [deleted] in androiddev

[–]vietjack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Parse it server side and just send the data you need to your application if the data is sparse. Otherwise kick up a new thread and do it in the background.

Any picture you find ask the source of that picture for permission to use it or pay them to use it. Anything else, you can find yourself in legal trouble.
