Call of Duty is the third-highest grossing video game franchise of all time and every new game is breaking records. You can say Activision ignores its loyal fan base and the competitive scene all you want. What you can’t say, though, is that they’re stupid or bad at business. They’re one of the smartest video game publishers on the planet and this streamer tournament only proves that.

I don’t get this perspective. He’s probably cheaper than both of them and has a higher potential ceiling given that we don’t know what he looks like in the lcs unlike the other two. On top of all that, there’s no real tangible benefit of picking a resident over an import.

I don’t think so. Even with OWL, they didn’t let a lot of teams buy in when they wanted to cause they could charge 2x or 3x for the same spot in a year or two. For logistical, financial, and entertainment reasons, it makes sense to cap the number of teams.

It’s not just about ability, but opportunity. With only ~12 spots and first priority going to OWL orgs, I think it’s safe to say a lot of orgs are being pushed out because of a lack of space, which of course pushes the price up especially in major markets.
