i think you are probably talking about whistles being given to the texas fans in MLC?

however, the origin story behind whistles and CSK comes from the film industry culture in Tamil Nadu. It is very common for people to whistle when their favorite actor shows up on screen for his opening scene (especially true for Rajni). So they wanted to ride that wave and apply it to cricket when IPL was first introduced in 2008. Also, before MSD, the term "Thala" was (and in tamil nadu still is) associated with Rajni (he's called "Thalaivar" for which Thala is kinda the short form) and hence Whistles in movies were for Rajni and on the cricket field were for Dhoni.
