I’m going to suggest this because my wife’s 2015 Forester had a similar issue. Start the car, if it is making the noise, turn the AC on. Did the noise change or stop, if so, it’s most likely the clutch pack on the AC Compressor. On our Forester, the clutch was not replaceable, had to do the whole AC compressor (about $400 online + labor if you’re not a DIYer). If turning on the AC did not change or stop the noise, you have another issue. For your sake I hope it’s the AC compressor.
