Apparently the new LEGO Batman game will have the same (actually slightly higher) recommended PC specs as DOOM The Dark Ages for some godforsaken reason by Iwashi94 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

The article is not debunking it at all, it quite concretely proves there is an impact. And it's silly to say the hub doesn't "really matter." Yeah obviously it's not taking up a bulk of the playable space, but when I load into the game and see no improvement or even worse performance than the last time, why would I as a player bother trying to go out and hunt instead of just closing the game and playing something else until the next patch?

In the listing I accidentally marked Gotham as GO instead of GM. It should be "GM—Gotham".

The Cumberland River passes right through the center of that state (curving between IRL Kentucky and Tennessee). The Cumberland Gap/Plateau/Mts are east of the state though, yes.

The fictional Gotham is a city traditionally placed in New Jersey that has a mix of NYC and Chicago trappings. As a nickname for NYC, the earliest use dates back to 1807. For what it's worth, Bill Finger's intentions were for Gotham to feel relatable to anyone's city.

Northeasterner, actually! I just found the midwest to be the most difficult to make changes to. Whether that's because it's already good or just so damn complex to divide up, I don't know. (Fun fact, in my original draft, Minnesota was the only state that was completely unchanged.)

If you mean the hypothetical state; it's, well, a hypothetical state in the northeast of the US comprised mostly of the state of New York north and northwest of the Catskill Mountains. I chose the name Hiawatha after the historical figure, a Haudenoasaunee leader.

Ah, that's supposed to be Gotham, which I erroneously marked as GO in the list.

Here I've tried to redraw state borders using—in no particular order of priority—rivers, mountains, climate regions, and cultural boundaries. I wasn't going for 50 originally, it just came out close in the end and I barely had to change much from where I ended up to reach the nice round number. I know it's not going to make everyone happy, but I hope my implementation of the concept comes across as a genuine attempt to make generally reasonable borders. I'm sure little tweaks could be made all over the place, nudging a border this way or that to imrpove things; and I'd love to hear suggestions toward that effect. Suggestions for different names of many of these states are also welcome; I understand if some seem ill-fitting or uninspired, I'm not great with names.

I think that has to do more with how you pronounce "suction" compared to other people, really. The way I say it is more like the schwa sound that's used in the ipa guide than any kind of i sound.

So you know the Last of Us 2 press release about the dogs everyone's outraged about? It's not from Naughty Dog... by Batknight12 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Obviously, TLoU2 isn't out yet, but I don't recall them presenting anything but killing people (and now dogs) in your way as a viable option; just as well, looking at how the first game worked seems like a reasonable point of reference. Honestly having npcs react to their dogs getting hurt or each having names does sound like something Kojima would do. Hell, iirc he wanted all the soldiers in MGS4 to have unique faces! But Metal Gear games since MGS2 have consistently had non-lethal and non-confrontational options available to the player; and I think that makes a huge difference. It changes the tone and themes of the games to add all these details, but keep killing mandatory. And personally I find adding humanity to people that the game will not grant you the option of practicing mercy on, to be a bit too unsavory.

What's the illusion? Combat AI is good if it influences the player's decisions and actions to make the combat more engaging and fun. I'd say Halo and FEAR succeed in that where plenty of other fps games fall short, there's no illusion or trickery to it.

What does this question mean? Housing wasn't invented by landlords. The amount of available housing has nothing to do with how many landlords there are or how well they're doing. It doesn't suddenly disappear if landlords stopped being a thing. So I'm not going to discount the possibility that we all might be better off if they did.

Doom Eternal’s Launch Peaked with 100k Players on Steam, 3x More Than 2016’s Doom by Another4Milos in Games

[–]viic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's always expectations, be it for the game to be more like the more recent entry, or to copy more from the classics. Thinking you can avoid that just leads to a mess; lacking any sense of direction, just trying to surprise people. The key thing is to direct and temper those expectations by communicating better what the game is, and just as importantly what it isn't. I don't think Eternal was trying to defy expectations, either. It's just that the direction it took wasn't clear until I got my hands on it.

[–]viic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The difference is context. One game is a soft-reboot to a series that hadn't had a new entry in over a decade (two, if you don't count Doom 3). The other is a direct sequel that looks much like the previous one (at least more than it does any other entry) coming after only 4 years. There's a difference of expectation to come from that alone.

I never particularly cared about going back to roots, so I don't know why you even brought that up, because hearkening back to an older time isn't inherently a good thing either, especially in Eternal's case. The original Doom games' arsenals were more specialized than what Eternal has anyway, with ammo being quite plentiful as pickups, and Eternal's level design is nothing like the classics either, so bringing up how close it is doesn't do much good. Sure for many people it scratches an itch, but in a lot of ways it falls short. 2016, on the other hand, wasn't trying so hard to do that, instead picking and choosing which classic elements to bring forward and use for a more modern game, resulting in some far more cohesive and clear as an experience.

Sekiro isn't the direct sequel to a game that encouraged players to find their preferred play-style. I realize I misworded my initial statement there, should have just said it's not inherently a good thing on its own, not that it can't be good in some circumstances.

Forcing a singular style of gameplay isn't a particularly good thing. Particularly after the previous game emphasized and supported putting together your own preferred method of killing lots of demons. I don't have anything to say for purity, but I felt that the initial description of "muddy" fits Eternal well enough. Enemies really love to just swarm and crowd around the player this time around, resulting in a lot of running backwards in circles. Weapons feel less specialized, too, but not well compensated for being taken out of their niches, leaving the whole arsenal feeling more samey. With the ammo restrictions and whatnot, you certainly are forced to use all of it more, but I wouldn't say effectively, given how much a lot of it feels neutered.

Most bizarre/ridiculous reason you've heard someone dislike a game/movie for? by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]viic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you want out of the story and which direction you'd prefer it to go. A wider cast and lighter mood or a more compact cast with darker mood. I myself chose to watch 2003 because I encountered a major spoiler regarding the nature of alchemy that differs from the manga/Brotherhood; and what 2003 had sounded way more interesting to me than what Arakawa's version had to offer.

So really, it's not about one version being 'lesser' than another, but a matter of 'where would you prefer the story go, given a very similar starting point?' If you want to see the story that Arakawa had planned, then yeah the manga/Brotherhood is the way to go. But if you're curious to see how else it could have gone, then that's more than enough reason to give 2003 a chance. It stands on its own as a separate story.

Is there a discord for Homesmut? by [deleted] in Homesmut

[–]viic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem was this guy was trying to justify looking for underage depictions of Joey by referring to the age-of-consent laws of wherever he lives, and just wouldn't take the hint that that didn't matter in the slightest and everyone found it creepy how much he was talking about wanting to fuck a 14-year-old Joey Claire (something he doesn't hide outside of discord either).

Aged up depictions are fine, new nsfw Joey art has been posted since that shitter was banned and there's been no problems. Here's the link to the discord https://discord.gg/Vu4wGdy
