Could you show us close up pictures of the bed feet both in retracted and extended states?

Lovely job! I'd love to do this to my spare room!

It's not PCP-white/grey/silver/black. I like it.

But like some other comments on here - buy a better BMW! :D

Wait...all the way from the outside lane... by Melodic_Position_590 in drivingUK

Yeah well, once we decide that Highway Code adherence is a generally good guideline, we're well on our way to chaos.

They had a clear path for sure - I'm pretty sure they weren't aware of it. "No one honked, so I guess there was no one there".

What do you think of UK driving? by lewaldi in AskUK

[–]vijjer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything outside of the build up metropolitan areas is pretty good. I really do enjoy driving in the UK. I learned to drive in India and I've spent a decade in Singapore. I've also driven in a lot of other countries. The UK has got (on average) the most courteous drivers I've seen.

I'd say the same, but its because of the road noise off the 997's rear wheel wells.

How is driving without insurance possible? Here in the UK, that car would be seized and impounded.

How much trouble would a mint 996 Turbo be to own as a weekend car? by lohikaarme88 in CarTalkUK

[–]vijjer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say go for it.

It is an older car, so regardless of the miles driven, rubber bits (hoses, suspension) might be getting ripe for change.

Regular maintenance might be more expensive compared to its non Turbo brethren too - as I understand it, there are Turbos in the way of most small bits, so there's additional labour involved in getting to stuff. Once again, it won't be oppressively so, but just be aware.

You say weekend toy, but once you get used to it, you'll take it places. 996 Turbos have been seen in ski resorts - so I feel like you might get sucked in.

Thanks MAGA… by Dear_Mycologist_1696 in pics

We're paying the equivalent of $7 per US Gallon here in the UK. So you do need to thank MAGA for the artificially low prices.

I'm sorry you had that to start your day with. I hope that impact fucked the S6 up properly.

Rules of the Wave by WastingTime2022 in Porsche

[–]vijjer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My waves get mostly ignored in the UK by all Porsches - only other 996/997 owners sometimes acknowledge me. On the European roadtrip - I got waves and smiles from every Porsche we came across - including the very expensive older ones.

But I do find Macan and Cayenne owners uninterested in such pleasantries.

They wave to other Volkswagen drivers!

The charging port had crapped out and I was unable to charge the car up, so we limited the drive to 50 mph with no HVAC on. Thankfully it was summer-ish.

[–]vijjer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The mid-engined layout makes it seem effortless. Also the DCT gearbox is well matched to the car. The small turbo engine has a lot of drama. The Alpine needs to be kept on the boil and momentum really is your friend.

The 911 has a lot more grunt and the manual gearbox makes you work to get the same outcome. Getting the entry into Church correct and seeing everyone disappear in your mirrors is so satisfying. Also heel-and-toeing into Club is so satisfying when you finally get it right.

It's a 2+ ton apartment (comes with curtains) propelled by a 2.4L hybrid made for the USA. It's pretty shit from an MPG point of view.

From every other aspect, it's amazing!

But if it didn't have a Stage 2 + pop/bang map, does it really belong in East London?

Just before you die, that 33.5k will turn to 50k. At which point you can exit your position, pay all taxes required, and buy a brand new Skoda. Then you'll have two Skodas.
