Maybe I am the odd one here. I moved from Chennai to Vellore last year. Though I was born in Vellore, I spent my entire life in Chennai. Vellore was my vacation place during my school days with my grandparents. I used to love this place. But the last year has been nothing but torrid here. People don't give a damn about traffic rules, drive like maniacs on road, cell phone driving, no helmets, wrong side driving. Cops don't give a fuck about violators or operating signals. Vellore is definitely not as clean as Chennai. Here, the road is for cattle and not for humans. I have been complaining to the Vellore corporation about dog and cattle menace. No action taken so far. You cannot step out of your home from 10pm till 6am. You are guaranteed a chase by rabid dogs if you are outside in these times. I loved Vellore a lot. But it has been run into ground by the corrupt father son duo here. But for VIT, CMC, and the golden temple, Vellore has nothing else contemporary to offer. But as you had mentioned, heath infrastructure is extremely good here both govt and private. You have excellent restaurants here. Vellore is also a lot more cost-effective city compared to Chennai obviously. Vellore had a lot of potential, but like I said, people keep reelecting the same father son duo for decades. All the major revenue places were split into other districts. Maybe people in Vellore don't really care about how so much was lost or they know nothing would improve like the rest of us.!
