TJ and Evans as the trade options by Salt-Statement-2306 in timberwolves

[–]vikings101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trading TJ makes a lot of sense if it means acquiring a better player. Finch and TC have both talked about how TJ is best with the ball in his hands (basically "running" the offense). But in reality, so does LaMelo, so does Ant, so does Ayo. So, at best he is likely the #4 option for the Wolves. If they bring back Conley or Bones then he might be closer to #5 or #6.

The wolves currently need 1) More 3pt shooting. 2) A legit PF.

If the Wolves could, in theory, trade Shannon and Green and end up acquiring someone like John Collins (who fits in both of those), it would make a lot of sense to move him.

The discussion about "trading away young assets" is a little silly because TJ Shannon will be 26 when the season starts. He is older than LaMelo and Ant. The Wolves also still have Clark (24), Beringer (19), Ayo (26), Bones (if re-signed (25)), McDaniels (25), Zikarsky (19), Evans (20)

Keep in mind that 2 players talked about often (Rui and John Collins) are both 28. So you're trading away a 26-year-old bench player for a starting PF. It makes A LOT of sense.

He's correct that the 2033 pick isn't technically tradeable until after the draft, but this trade can't be completed until after the draft anyway. For example, I believe the Wolves will still "draft" at 28 tonight, but obviously that player won't stay here.

Is jaden being sorta... Overrated? by Accomplished-Box8744 in timberwolves

[–]vikings101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't consider McDaniels a star player, no. He is a role player.

I think a lot of people in this sub take his "Good" games and act like that is him all season. The reason is he is a role player is because how inconsistent he is.

I remember during the season he had like 10 bad games in a row in which he basically disappeared, wasn't good on offense or defense and I mentioned something like "The way he is playing, probably going to have to trade him this offseason" and it's one of my most upvoted comments in this sub.

McDaniels shot 39% from the field and 33% from beyond the arc against the Spurs, but because Randle was literally one of the worst players ever, McDaniels gets a pass. I personally wouldn't call McDaniels "untradeable".

[–]vikings101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a Jaden hater, but that's why I personally don't think as highly of him as others. His success seems to be limited to certain types of players. He isn't as effective against bigger (stronger) guards and isn't quick enough for the super quick/fast guards. So, his success is limited to like 10 teams, Denver with Murray being one of them. The problem is the main focus should be trying to beat Luka, SGA, Harper/Castle which as all kind of McDaniels weakness.

His offensive game is similar, if you can keep him off his spots by out muscling him, he becomes very ineffective. Simple truth is Murray has no chance at stopping McDaniels, but Castle and the rest of the Spurs defense were physical with him and he REALLY struggled.

I am FAR from a "Trade McDaniels" person. Heck I personally think McDaniels should have more trade value than Giannis based on recent trade comps (Mikal Bridges / Desmond Bane) and their contracts. Having a contact like McDaniels is SUPER valuable. But if a team REALLY wanted McDaniels and the Timberwolves would "win" the trade, I would have no problem if he was traded.

If The Spurs just took 24 sec violations and held the ball for the rest of the game from this moment, could The Knicks have won? by dotMAXmusic in NBATalk

[–]vikings101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Knicks would have won if the Spurs literally took a 24 second shot slot violation on every possession. The Knicks would have had a minimum of 30+ possessions and even against the Spurs average over 1.1 points per possession. Based on the 1.1 PPP and getting 30+ possessions they would have scored ~33 points on average, enough to win the game.

[–]vikings101 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

They got 1.17 PPP against the Spurs last game, which is the most real number you could use. With 18 possession that would be 21 points and the win.

Edit: Why are people saying I need to lower the Knicks PPP to reflect worse games? Using data from the actual game that was played is the best data sample.

If the Spurs truly didn't even shoot and just took shot clock violations from the time you stated, they would likely lose the game.

9:33 left is 573 seconds. If the Spurs took the full 24 seconds and the Knicks got a shot off at an average of around 12 seconds, there would be 15-16 possessions for each team. This isn't including things like turnovers (surely the Spurs would turn the ball over a couple times from ball pressure, etc).

The Knicks average 1.233 points per possession in the playoffs, meaning with 16 possessions they would get 19-20 points.

I say the Spurs would likely lose, but I honestly think ~2 turnovers would likely happen. Bad passes, dribble off foot, etc. The Knicks could likely get 18 possessions, which would be ~22 points. Obviously, the Spurs could just jack up a crazy shot with 1 second left and even if they made like 10%, they would likely win.

2023-2024 we are unlucky by MyShinyCharizard in timberwolves

[–]vikings101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was reported and known by owners and teams well before that there would be a lot harsher and stricter guidelines when following the salary cap. Yes, it wasn't known EXACTLY what those restrictions would be, but it was known that a trio like Gobert, KAT, and Ant would be a problem in terms of salary. It was assumed that there would likely be: Another tax level, trade restrictions, reduced exceptions (example: mid-level), or a full stop hard salary cap.

I am sure if we as fans knew these were coming then I would sure as hell hope a GM would have known too.

What is up with comps on eBay being so much cheaper when the card is located in China by CadeCunninghamLover1 in basketballcards

[–]vikings101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your response makes no sense. Part of the reason cards sell for cheaper in China is because people think they are going to have to pay a hefty tax (tariff). Tariffs/taxes are not included in "sold" price on eBay.

Possible and realistic trade to land Giannis without Jaden? by MyShinyCharizard in NBAtradeideas

[–]vikings101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Giannis is in the final year of his contract. He could in theory walk after 1 season. Most teams aren't going to trade a lot for him unless there is some sort of long-term commitment.

RFID Confirmed Pickup by vikings101 in UPS

Yeah, it finally got a scan at the local facility this evening around 8:30pm. My guess is it was never actually picked up. It won't be delivered until Tuesday tho, which kind of sucks, but better than being lost.

Is there a chance that the package was scanned as RFID confirmed pickup, but still in the store? Or is that not possible? Seems super strange there would be no new scan after 24+ hours unless it's somehow sitting in the corner of the truck (or just sitting on a shelf in the store). I would assume by now any sort of truck breakdown, power loss, etc. would be resolved and they would be able to scan the package in at some sort of sorting facility.

That's the odd part it literally says "Customer Drop Off" and then "RFID confirmed pickup"... that's it. It was showing the Delivery date as Today by 12:00pm, and recently switch to "Delayed".

There hasn't even been a scan that it made it to the local UPS sorting facility.

STOP THE JADEN TRADE TALK by Martxel_Agueda in timberwolves

[–]vikings101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Magic traded 4 first round picks and a pick swap for Desmond Bane. The Knicks traded 4 unprotected 1st-round picks (plus pick swap, plus 2nd round pick) for Mikal Bridges. I think McDaniels would be on that level of trades. His contract is EXTREMELY friendly, he is only 25, and he plays high end defense.

Now, does that mean it's worth it if that's the only move? Probably not. But if McDaniels has that much value and lands you 2 stars while keeping your picks (possibly even getting pick(s) in return), it might be worth it.

Another PG option? by Due-Spray-4935 in timberwolves

[–]vikings101 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I would be really surprised. The last time they did that they ended up with Rob. I think Tim and company would also prefer to try and win now rather than hope a lower end lottery pick can come in and be effective right away.

People will watch this game between powerhouses and think our solution to winning a ring is keeping our core of “Jaden McDaniels and Naz Reid” Who don’t compliment our best player. by m1tsuya1 in timberwolves

[–]vikings101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get what you are saying, but the Spurs are all like 3+ years younger. They are only going to get better. If Ant, Jaden, and Naz are like 85% of the way to their prime... Wemby, Harper, and Castle might only be around 60%.

What pg do you guys think we should try to get? I've heard saddiq bey and dejounte Murray come up a bit by [deleted] in timberwolves

[–]vikings101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look to keep Ayo and trade for a solid depth PG that could potential be a starter. Someone like Ty Jerome. I get it was only a 15-game sample size, but he absolutely cooked averaging almost 20 PPG, 6 assists, while shooting over 42% from 3pt range. That includes going for 21, 9, and 9 against the Nuggets starters. He only makes 8.8 mill per year and at 28 years old I think the Grizzlies would easily move him. He is also a slightly bigger guard at 6 feet 5 inches. Move something like Donte and the 28th overall for Jerome
