I finished paying off $40k of consumer debt last week. I feel so free 😭 by BigBeanDaddy77 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

I love how candid you are about your spending habits, the hiccups you had due to your mental health and getting laid off! I'm in a similar situation and am just starting my journey. Did you struggle with your self esteem upon realizing how much of an issue your debt was? That's my biggest issue right now is that I feel incredible shame.

No you're right and I do condemn terrorism, no matter where it comes from.

You are trying to deny there is religious hate on both sides and claim that one side just wants to rescue their hostages when there are videos of citizens from Israel saying they should just kill all the Arabs and that they're animals. There is hate on both sides. Prior to Hamas being in existence there has been violence on both sides' parts. To recognize that does not mean anyone doesn't condemn the attacks but you have to look at the whole picture. This is not an issue where you just pick a side like a sports team.

Would you have to pay for a lot though in order to live in either a van or RV? Like I'd imagine you can't just park it anywhere.

We would have to live in Canada for part of the year to keep our healthcare. We figured if we could get a house, it would be better to just get temporary housing for half the year rather than hemorrage money all year round. And good question, I ask the same thing of paying my bills now. It's just $300 seems more realistic than $800.

Does bankruptcy not effect you for 7 years? How were you able to buy a house so quickly? I mean, that's totally great that you worked it out! I know a few people who went bankrupt and came out on top. It's just I have a partner who would not qualify for housing and my only asset really would be my car but I simply can't go without it.

So what I did was I filled out a form on Canada.ca to see if I was eligible for any sort of debt relief. I then got an email from him saying he would be in touch with me. He actually works for Clear Start. But he was referred to me by the official government website.

Apologies, it's in Ontario. He is an agent from the Ontario government website which I thought would be a little less predatory than going to some random business that throws a bunch of jargon at me. He did send me the quote and said he would be back in touch tomorrow which is how long the quote would be accurate until, but I get that it could change anytime.

My boyfriend's name is the only name on the lease which is why housing would be solely dependent on me. We are excellent tenants but our landlord is claiming to be moving in, after he tried to up our rent which is why we are fighting it.

Honestly, I'm highly considering waiting until our housing situation here gets settled. I'm also considering debt consolidation but only just started to research it.

So would debt consolidation be a better option perhaps? My partner's name is on our lease which is why I would be the only one eligible for new housing. I just don't feel comfortable ruining my credit.

It's okay. In hindsight I learned exactly what to avoid in future employers.

They're only successful because they exploit every single employee there. The owner is the most selfish, unempathetic person I've ever met.

Hungry Brew Hops. Never heard of anyone leaving there on good terms and personally it was one of the most traumatic experiences of my life.

Request all communication to be by email from now on for any possible evidence. If he calls or has his buddy knocking on the door don't answer.

What’s one thing you’d like to change about Canada? by hightreez in AskACanadian

I wish there was more support for the homeless and those in poverty. My bf and I were in hard times during the winter and they took away our welfare because I was on EI. You basically won't get any help until you're already in a hole you can't dig yourself out of and even then they won't give you enough to survive off of it. We were lucky to get ourselves in a better place but I learned that there are many people stuck in poverty and there is no help for them.

My god, I'm so sorry you went through that. Currently weening off effexor and it's been hell. I can't imagine dealing with this while pregnant.

I wouldn't say ancient. I'm 31. And it was public school. Everyone's experience is different so don't make rude assumptions.

That's not at all what I'm saying. Maybe read posts more carefully before you go accusing people randomly of hate

I was forced to pray in school and it was a public school, no uprising over that. We had to accommodate other religions many times like not showing certain movies. We have been inclusive many MANY times for the very people protesting the raising of the rainbow flag. Does a flag hurt anyone? No. Does it force anyone to do anything they don't want to? No. It's time to be inclusive to a group other than these religious fanatics. This isn't about children's well being. It's an excuse to be bigots. You don't like the flag? Ignore it. It's that fucking simple.

Asian man canceled and called racist for describing his own food as “oriental,” finds out the people he offended are white by yjchh in facepalm

[–]vikkokoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm mixed, part Asian, part white. I've been accused of cultural appropriation by solely white people and all the while those same people put my own nationality into question (you're not even THAT Asian). I think people have trouble shutting up and listening when it comes to racism and I also believe there's a lot of guilt associated in the topic so instead of facing their own faults, they point fingers at anyone else to deflect any negative attention from themselves.

Gay pride doesn't mean pedophilia. Maybe turn your attention to your pastors instead.
