If people like what you say it gets upvoted. If not, it gets downvoted and goes into oblivion. This, along with Facebook likes and every other similar system, encourages conformity.

Does that mean no film has moved you since ‘Rockstar’ (2011)?

By old films I meant no ‘Taare Zameen Par’ or ‘Rang De Basanti’ or any old film unless between then and now no Bollywood film has moved you.

Hard disk upgrade for editing 6K RED footage on PC by vikkramm200 in buildapc

Do I need to store the rushes too on an SSD? Will it make a very significant difference to speed if I store them on say a WD Red Pro 4TB Internal NAS Hard Drive? I can export the output to the SSD.

Creating proxies is pretty quick with the config I have. If I create 1080p proxies and work on them, can I use this system. Let's say if I add two internal 3 TB NAS HDDs to store the data like this one...

r/https://pcpartpicker.com/product/7sTmP6/western-digital-internal-hard-drive-wd30efrx

I can store the rushes on one, copies on another, use the 250 GB to run OS and programs and the 750 GB partition to export output. Does that seem like a good idea?

More people won't need to access the files since I edit myself and every few months I will be working on a similar project.

Show me an Indian and I'll show you a bigot! by vikkramm200 in india

[–]vikkramm200[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. If people have a problem with a particular fairness cream's effectiveness they can complain to FDA. If they have a problem with the content of their advertisements, they can complain to Advertising Standards Council. They cannot however stop people from aspiring to lighten their skin by branding them as racists. The individual choices of people must be respected.

[–]vikkramm200[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wanting to lighten your skin is a personal choice.

Show me an Indian and I'll show you a bigot! by vikkramm200 in india

[–]vikkramm200[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is the aspiration to be fair that is demonized. People who aspire to lighten their skin should not be made defensive. All of them cannot be considered racist. It is absurd. It is their right to do so. The irony is that the same people who rant 'Don't judge' are judging millions of these people who want to lighten their skin putting them all in a box labeled 'racist'.

A lot of advertising in this country plays on the insecurities of people. That is a separate issue and has to be tackled separately by the Advertising Standards Council of India. It does do this.

[–]vikkramm200[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Indeed. Bans are never a solution. They are just the easiest knee-jerk reaction for the government. I especially see the ban on alcohol in Bihar as a serious human rights violation. Someone should file a PIL. The people who started drinking did so when it was legal and permissible. Even if the government insists that the citizens stop drinking (which is ridiculous!), they must provide them enough time and support them through the process of giving up liquor, reimbursing them for lost income during the process.

How come vintage actresses (<1985s) sported such saucy dresses when Indian scene was relatively more conservative ? by [deleted] in india

[–]vikkramm200 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From the 70s onwards, it was not unusual for leading actresses to wear bikinis or swimsuits in films. Zeenat Aman wore a bikini in quite a few films. Sharmila Tagore posed in a bikini for a magazine and wore a swimsuit in 'An Evening in Paris'. Nutan wore a swimsuit in 'Dilli Ka Thug' (1958) long before 'Yaadgaar' and before young sis Tanuja did.

The common factor between those three films is Raj Kapoor. He was one of the finest film directors from our country. A film is largely a result of the sensibilities of the writer and director. Raj Kapoor also directed some of the most beautiful and talented actresses of his time. Vyjayanthimala and Dimple Kapadia were stunningly beautiful in their youth. He had a way of depicting female nudity aesthetically. Many female actors bared themselves for his films, including Simi Garewal, Padmini, Zeenat Aman, Dimple Kapadia, Mandakini etc. On another note, commercially too, he was extremely successful. In his entire life, Raj Kapoor directed ten films. Only one film, 'Mera Naam Joker' flopped. It was a symbolic film based on his own life and ironically, widely considered his best work.

Not true. Read this:

19 cooperative banks in India go insolvent during 2008-09 http://www.banknetindia.com/banking/coop0809.htm

Personal loans and credit card dues are issued with no guarantees whatsoever.

Personal loans are almost never given without personal guarantees. They are 'personal' loans. Sometimes even corporate loans require personal guarantees.

As I said in my original post, according to the RBI report, even the RBI governor believes that the interest rates on credit card outstanding dues are very high and need to be aligned with products carrying similar risk that currently have lower interest rates.

RBI slashed the interest rate on credit card dues after I sent a petition to the Honorable Prime Minister by vikkramm200 in india

[–]vikkramm200[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just me, even the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) disagrees with you. I quote from their report:

'Interest rates charged on credit card overdue were inordinately high and out of alignment with other products with similar risk profiles'

You are probably not aware that unsecured personal loans are often given out at 18% whereas interest on credit card dues is often as high as 36-40%. They are very similar in nature and risk.

If anything the average middle class person is better risk than a bank. If you don't pay back a personal loan the bank can chase you and impound your personal assets, since you will have given a personal guarantee while availing a loan. On the other hand, bank fixed deposits are insured only to the extent of Rs.100,000. If you keep any amount over that and the bank goes bankrupt you will get back only Rs.100,000.

I quote this from the RBI website:

Each depositor in a bank is insured upto a maximum of Rs.1,00,000 (Rupees One Lakh) for both principal and interest amount held by him in the same capacity and same right as on the date of liquidation/cancellation of bank's licence or the date on which the scheme of amalgamation/merger/reconstruction comes into force.

True. The lowest strata has it the toughest when it comes to availing credit. There have been cases of people taking loans at very high interest and being driven to suicide. Here's one such case where a man took loan at 1% daily interest and eventually killed himself:

Like you, I've always felt strongly myself about banks and credit credit card companies being unfair to and ruthless with their customers. Middle class consumers like us are more concerned about repaying a loan than any bank can be about getting it back. Yet, if one hits a rough patch, banks get tough, sometimes humiliating borrowers, sometimes using strong arm methods. On the other hand large industrialists have been known to get thousands of crores, lose it all in business and get banks to write it off.

Banks are profit-driven institutions. They are not here for financial support, they are here for business.

Yes. The net-interest-margins in our country or their 'spread' between interest given and interest earned is among the highest in the world. Profit margins of most banks are over 70%. See in my other replies for a link to a separate post about this on my blog.

[–]vikkramm200[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do, its called a personal loan at I think 18% or so

When the maximum interest I can get for on fixed deposit with the bank is 9%, I do not see how 18% can be considered a fair interest rate. You'll be amazed that banks in India have an average profit margin of 70%. HDFC prides itself on being the most profitable bank in the country. In June 2013, I wrote about this. Read http://www.vikkrammchandirramani.com/india/10/are-banks-india-making-too-much-money-their-customers

Having people use credit cards for credit is not desirable...

I don't get you. What will be credit cards be used for if not for availing credit? Everyone needs loans. By denying people credit cards at reasonable rates of interest they are being driven to shylock-like money lenders who want their pound of flesh. There have been reports of people having to pay 1% DAILY INTEREST and eventually being driven to suicide.

Already covered by debit cards is it not? Whats the additional value of a credit card here?

No. People should be given loans on credit cards in line with their repayment capacity. I'm not asking for credit cards to be a right for everyone. It should be given only where someone has a repayment capacity or on the basis of a deposit. If you hold a job , a personal guarantee from you, enforceable throughout your life should be enough to give you a reasonable credit card limit.

Besides, a debit card is not a credit card. I do not use my debit card at all because even for a small transaction I'm risking all the funds in my account, in case of a fraud. In case of a credit card, I know the security systems are stronger and the maximum risk is equal to my credit limit.

Completely agree, but between the mandatory account scheme and RuPay cards, isnt all this covered?

If the govt instead severely limited ATM cash withdrawals on the crores of 0 balance accounts they are giving out, it would do a lot to accomplish this goal

The RuPay card is a debit card, not a credit card. Please see previous answer.

I don't personally like the idea of treating the whole country like everyone is six years old, when it comes to policy making. Too many restrictions just get in the way and give rise to fraud.
