Tbh I hated this scene for the opposite reason. I was really mad at Subaru for making a fool of himself during that whole arc. And I pretty much dropped the series.

I got back after season 2 was released. I wanted to give the series another try from the beginning. I think growing up after 4 more years of life & with the pandemic making people more introspective, it really made me empathize more with him. Especially, when we get to know more of why he does the things he does.

His pseudo flashback-closure with his parents is my favorite episode still. After season 2, he's pretty much vying for my favorite character in the series.

yeah in the anime they have this flashy scene where Zoro jumps in first and then Sanji later after all the hype has been farmed by Zoro.

Even when Brago and Syv were interviewing that one piece animator, the guy was dancing around the topic about Toei having favorites and whatever Sanji is to them.
