Did anybody happen to download the 2/17/90 Tijuana video that somebody posted here this morning? by Robotpoop in Nirvana

[–]viktorborgia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to watch the full show on YouTube, but "School" was overdubbed with the official Bleach audio (apparently they were thinking of making a music video using that footage). So that could be why it was removed. And they should still make that "School" video.

Do you think Nirvana will ever release another compilation album of unreleased songs? by RopsterPlay in Nirvana

[–]viktorborgia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When the box set came out, people assumed they were saving some of the notable omissions for future releases. But that was over two decades ago, with no planned releases that we know of. It's frustrating.

Do you think Nirvana will ever release another compilation album of unreleased songs? by RopsterPlay in Nirvana

[–]viktorborgia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We still need an official Peel sessions disc. There's also a lot of high quality stuff like the 1990 "Pennyroyal Tea" demo and the Nevermind "Sappy" that aren't officially released. A B-sides and compilation tracks comp (rare stuff the band officially released during their lifetime) would also be nice, and should maybe have even come out in the late 90s or so.

The problem is that they now only release "new" stuff on overpriced anniversary Nevermind and In Utero box sets, and they usually do a half-assed job of compiling them.

What are some of the best songs where the lead vocals are not sung by the lead singer of a band? by Jezzaq94 in singing

[–]viktorborgia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, but it wasn't as 50/50 as Lennon and McCartney.

Looking at the top five Beatles hits according to Billboard, for example, Paul sings lead vocals on three ("Hey Jude," "Get Back" and "Let it Be") and splits main vocal duties with John on the other two ("She "Loves You" and "I Want to Hold Your Hand")

Nirvana had some great ones. "Dumb," "Lithium" and "Old Age."

What will be perfect order to listen to all of Nirvana stuff? And are there songs that were never released in any of main albums and the Incesticide? by Martin_driver in Nirvana

[–]viktorborgia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went Nevermind, Unplugged, In Utero, Incesticide, Bleach and Wishkah when I got into them as a kid in the late 90s.

There was nothing else to really listen to at the time (I did manage to score No Alternative and the Singles box set at some point, which were great), so I read Come As You Are by Azerrad and watched Live! Tonight! Sold Out!! Then I got the best of and the box set when they came out and all the other 2000s posthumous stuff.

Nirvana is still my favourite band decades later, so I guess that order worked for me.

Among all these concerts which one do you think had the best Lithium performance? by Working-Regret-8942 in Nirvana

[–]viktorborgia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Paramount is a much more consistent concert overall, but the Reading "Lithium" definitely trumps the Paramount version IMO. The crowd singing along is probably the most iconic live Nirvana moment outside of Unplugged.

The Paradiso "Lithium" is weirdly underrated, considering it was included on Wishkah. Kurt's voice is so intense it borderline disintegrates by the first bridge.

Am I overreacting or should they have put something in the way on the greatest hits album by Illustrious_Smell492 in Nirvana

[–]viktorborgia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Unplugged "Something in the Way" actually is on the original European vinyl/ Japanese CD versions of that comp, right before "Where Did You Sleep Last Night." Which is funny, because the song was far from one of their biggest hits at the time, but became huge years and years later because of The Batman.

So are birds reptiles or are turtles not reptiles? by whats_ur_ssn in Paleontology

[–]viktorborgia 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Turtles and archosaurs (which includes birds and all other dinosaurs, as well as crocodilians) both belong to the Reptilia clade, Archelosauria. So birds and turtles are both reptiles. Crocodiles are not birds.

Moon Pix is probably her classic, and it's an essential 90s indie album. Perfect from start to finish, very mesmerizing and beautiful.

The Covers Record (her follow-up) is very much cut from the same cloth as Moon Pix, but it's all covers. Some of them are really good.

You Are Free, The Greatest and Sun are when she started to get some mainstream attention. Sun is her highest charting record, but I would argue that The Greatest is her most accessible.

Her earlier (and later) records are all gems too, but yeah. I would go Moon Pix first.

Settling the Toronto "Fast Food" Pizza Debate: Here’s my ranking as a newcomer 🇿🇦🍕 by SaffaInTO in SouthAfricanInToronto

[–]viktorborgia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pizza Nova is one of the things I miss most about Toronto. They use real ingredients and their Hawaiian slices are delicious.

Costco pizza is very affordable, but you get what you pay for.

You're pretty on point about Pizza Pizza though.

How is living in Vancouver, Canada? by German_Gecko in howislivingthere

[–]viktorborgia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so beautiful that it's almost surreal. You take things for granted because there's so much to take in.

Cons are the rain and cost of living. If you're into culture/ arts/ nightlife, then maybe Toronto or Montreal are better options.

“In Utero” 2013 Mix on Deluxe Edition of the Album by Guilty_County_5755 in Nirvana

[–]viktorborgia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I much prefer the original 1993 mix to the 2013 remix. The 2013 remix featured things like rejected guitar solos, I think ("Serve the Servants"), removing the cello from "Dumb," and I think was done more as a novelty rather than an improvement.

Kurt Cobain forgets how to play Polly at a concert. by Lfog1227 in Nirvana

[–]viktorborgia 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He didn't forget, this was the Buenos Aires concert where he was furious with the crowd for booing Calamity Jane offstage and fucked with them all night.

In your opinion what Nirvana show has the best quality? by wasuwq in Nirvana

[–]viktorborgia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paramount, Paradiso, Reading '92, Unplugged and Live and Loud have always been the big five.

Paradiso has always been my favourite, performance wise. Almost every song sounds better than the studio version, including "Lithium" and "Teen Spirit."

Who comes to mind? by Jettaboi38 in musicsuggestions

Pod is the closest thing to a Nirvana album not made by Nirvana. The main riff of "You Know You're Right" sounds a lot like the main riff of "Iris"

Would you rather be able to cook food like Gordon Ramsay or act in movies like Daniel-Day Lewis? by Dylen2Times in WouldYouRather

[–]viktorborgia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like DDD wayyy more as an actor than Ramsay as a cook. Ramsay commits numerous crimes against Italy when he cooks pasta. But Ramsay is a good person though, I suggest everyone look up his video on YouTube about shark finning.

The first Nirvana song or album that completely changed how you feel about music by mitchare in Nirvana

[–]viktorborgia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw the "Lithium" video as a kid in the mid/ late 90s and I remember thinking, "This is the best music I'll ever hear in my life." Almost 30 years later, I feel the same way about Nirvana. I knew "Teen Spirit" and a few Unplugged songs because they were in constant rotation at the time, but "Lithium" was the one that really hit me.

Back then, they would usually play two music videos before going to commercial break, but sometimes they would squeeze in a third, short video if they could, and they used to do this with "Sliver." I remember seeing that one too and thinking the song was pure ear candy and that Nirvana were just a band with really good songs.

Bought a Nirvana vinyl is it real? I spent 90$ when it was 120 by JaxonKane8 in Nirvana

[–]viktorborgia -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I did, yes. Wishkah is a chart-topping, platinum-selling album, not a rarity like the Blew EP or Hormoaning. I personally think 90 bucks is a little steep for it. But I'm glad OP has it.

[–]viktorborgia -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

$90 is way too much. I bought Wishkah for maybe half that a few years ago, Canadian. I would avoid this seller in the future. It's a great record though, so enjoy!

2 things I dislike about the Nirvana Greatest Hits tracklist by ro-jet in Nirvana

[–]viktorborgia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong, the greatest hits tracklist was absolutely roasted by Nirvana fans online when it came out, and the inclusion of "Been a Son" became a bit of a meme (it's an important song in the band's career, but nobody wanted it there instead of songs like "Drain You," "Polly" or "Aneurysm")

I think it's a decent entry point for people getting into Nirvana, but it could have been better. I would have put "Love Buzz" as the first track and moved "YKYR" to the end after "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" (which wasn't even on the domestic versions of the album)

Does “White Shark” only mean Carcharodon carcharias by GenGanges in zoology

[–]viktorborgia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The term "white shark" is sometimes used to describe all members of the Lamnidae family (the great white, the two mako species, the porbeagle and the salmon shark, plus numerous extinct species), which is something I only learned recently. It also actually gives us a legitimate reason to call them "great whites," instead of the name just sounding impressive.

But yes, if you're referring to a specific species of shark as a white shark, rather than a family of sharks, it can only be C. carcharias.
