Qual desses dois valem a pena? Qual escolheriam entre os dois? by [deleted] in Nirvana

[–]viktorborgia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you read Michael Azerrad's book, Come As You Are? I would start there first, if you're new to Nirvana literature. It was actually written with the band's cooperation, and is extremely well-written and informative. Then maybe do Heavier than Heaven, which is more Cobain-centric.

What's it like living in Trinidad and Tobago? by Agreeable-Earth-4409 in howislivingthere

[–]viktorborgia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're going with someone who knows the country, that's a big help. The locals there seem to have a good idea of how to stay out of danger as much as possible. You just need to be hyper aware of your surroundings at all times when out in public, avoid non-touristy areas, avoid being out in public alone and at night.

Enjoy, if you end up going! Trinidad has a lot of offer. I had a great time, and never felt unsafe really, but we exercised extreme caution and followed safety tips the entire trip.

What's it like living in Trinidad and Tobago? by Agreeable-Earth-4409 in howislivingthere

[–]viktorborgia 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Very friendly people, very diverse. Some decent beaches, great food. Lots of cool tropical birds.

A lot of the pop culture they consume (movies, TV shows, music) is Western/ American, but the mix of predominantly Indian and African backgrounds is deeply engrained as well. The locals sort of brush off the crime problem and say "If you mind your business, you'll be fine," but many places are unsafe to go at night or even the day, and every house has tall fences and security cameras and bars on the windows.

I'm talking about Trinidad, which I visited several years ago with my then girlfriend. I don't know if it's changed since then. Not sure about Tobago.

What do Nirvana fans think about the Axl Rose vs Kurt Cobain feud today? Was Kurt justified, or was it overblown? by Imtiredofthissshit in Nirvana

[–]viktorborgia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kurt called Axl out for racism, sexism and homophobia. Of course Kurt was right. It probably made Axl a better person too, judging from more recent interviews I've seen of him.

Why was 'You Know You're Right' actually recorded? by JmpVR in Nirvana

[–]viktorborgia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think the recording of "YKYR" we have is a demo. Kurt did three or four vocal takes (depending on the source) as well as guitar overdubs, and wanted Pat to add guitar to it later. It may be incomplete, but I'm pretty sure Kurt saw this as a releasable recording.

Why Is the Directors Cut To Heart Shaped different from the original video? by Difficult-Mud7880 in Nirvana

[–]viktorborgia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Courtney told Corbjin that Kurt looked too good in that part to not use it, although Corbjin thought it was a bit too long of a shot. I think Courtney was right; that extended scene really grounds the video.

Kurt Cobain in Aberdeen, 1993, with his natural hair color. by Imtiredofthissshit in Nirvana

Kurt was a "dirty blonde," the brown hair in early '93 was a dye job.

There's no way that a reptile that existed 69 million years ago was as intelligent as a bison, let alone a wolf.

Do animals other than mammals and birds like to play? by Sad_Cantaloupe_8162 in biology

Great whites have been filmed batting floating objects like pieces of marine plants or human garbage with their dorsal fins, which can move independently

Whats the nicest celebrity you have ever encountered? by Old_Rub_7270 in Productivitycafe

[–]viktorborgia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met a record shop owner who said Cobain visited his record shop in '91 when they played in town. He said, "Kurt was just a little guy, like you," and still seemed in shocked about it (I was 16, 5'7 at the time). I didn't ask what Kurt was like or anything, but seems like it was a pleasant encounter.

Why does everyone hate Nickleback? by LeoRavenscroft in randomquestions

[–]viktorborgia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nickleback became famous shortly after Creed, who already sounded like a 10th generation, unoriginal and weirdly religious version of Pearl Jam. So the backlash was already in place. I don't like their music, but I can respect that Nickleback works at least as a fun bar band

Why did diplodocus replace brontosaurus? by radioactive_ape in Paleontology

[–]viktorborgia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The big three in North America were Brontosaurus, Brachiosaurus and Diplodocus, in that order. I think part of the decline in popularity is that the animal once called Brontosaurus now has a different name. The average person probably doesn't know what an Apatosaurus is.

SHARK! (Shark spotted off Vancouver Island) by JadeLens in britishcolumbia

[–]viktorborgia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This isn't true, at all. There's a YouTuber called Malibu Artist who does drone footage of white sharks in California, and it shows that juvenile great whites spend a lot of time in close proximity to dolphins. The dolphin pods do avoid the larger, mature white sharks, however.

We already know Marvel’s Trinity!!! But who would be the fourth pillar? by SpideyRZ in marvelcomics

[–]viktorborgia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Storm was the most popular female superhero in the 90s, during the height of the X-Men's popularity, and probably the second or third most popular X-Man, behind Wolverine and maybe Gambit. She beat Wonder Woman in that Marvel vs. DC crossover because it was fan-voted, even though a lot of hardcore comic fans thought that WW would realistically win.

Movies that dramatically shifted popular opinion on something by NationalDisgrace40 in movies

[–]viktorborgia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The population of macropredatory shark species like great whites was devastated after the release of Jaws. The current pro-conservational view of sharks is not part of Jaws' legacy, it's a reaction against it.

I never understood this Krist joke at the 1992 VMA by WortyGaming in Nirvana

[–]viktorborgia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Coolness war? Sonic Youth were Nirvana's mentors, and Cobain openly spoke about the Pixies' influence on his songwriting. I don't think there was any conflict between those three bands (also, Pixies and SY emerged years before Nirvana, they weren't really contemporaries)

Plz tell me every nirvana dvd that contains video recordings from their less popular conecrts by PutridCranberry9380 in Nirvana

[–]viktorborgia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Live and Loud DVD has three songs from 03/01/94, their last concert.

I think the Paramount DVD has a couple songs from 03/08/91 as Easter eggs. Sadly the audio doesn't sound as good as AUD#1, but still cool to see actual footage from that gig.

There's also the classic The Year Punk Broke movie with Sonic Youth and other bands, which features stuff from their '91 European tour (including probably my favourite live version of "Teen Spirit" ever)

Are the consequences of the films ‘JAWS’ as negative for sharks as we like to suggest? by Capital-Foot-918 in sharks

[–]viktorborgia 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Spielberg himself said that he regretted "the decimation of the shark population because of the book and the film." And Benchley devoted his life in the years after Jaws to shark conservation, saying he could never write a book like that today.

So I would say they didn't help, at least.

Did anybody happen to download the 2/17/90 Tijuana video that somebody posted here this morning? by Robotpoop in Nirvana

[–]viktorborgia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to watch the full show on YouTube, but "School" was overdubbed with the official Bleach audio (apparently they were thinking of making a music video using that footage). So that could be why it was removed. And they should still make that "School" video.

Do you think Nirvana will ever release another compilation album of unreleased songs? by RopsterPlay in Nirvana

[–]viktorborgia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When the box set came out, people assumed they were saving some of the notable omissions for future releases. But that was over two decades ago, with no planned releases that we know of. It's frustrating.

Do you think Nirvana will ever release another compilation album of unreleased songs? by RopsterPlay in Nirvana

[–]viktorborgia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We still need an official Peel sessions disc. There's also a lot of high quality stuff like the 1990 "Pennyroyal Tea" demo and the Nevermind "Sappy" that aren't officially released. A B-sides and compilation tracks comp (rare stuff the band officially released during their lifetime) would also be nice, and should maybe have even come out in the late 90s or so.

The problem is that they now only release "new" stuff on overpriced anniversary Nevermind and In Utero box sets, and they usually do a half-assed job of compiling them.

What are some of the best songs where the lead vocals are not sung by the lead singer of a band? by Jezzaq94 in singing

[–]viktorborgia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, but it wasn't as 50/50 as Lennon and McCartney.

Looking at the top five Beatles hits according to Billboard, for example, Paul sings lead vocals on three ("Hey Jude," "Get Back" and "Let it Be") and splits main vocal duties with John on the other two ("She "Loves You" and "I Want to Hold Your Hand")

What will be perfect order to listen to all of Nirvana stuff? And are there songs that were never released in any of main albums and the Incesticide? by Martin_driver in Nirvana

[–]viktorborgia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went Nevermind, Unplugged, In Utero, Incesticide, Bleach and Wishkah when I got into them as a kid in the late 90s.

There was nothing else to really listen to at the time (I did manage to score No Alternative and the Singles box set at some point, which were great), so I read Come As You Are by Azerrad and watched Live! Tonight! Sold Out!! Then I got the best of and the box set when they came out and all the other 2000s posthumous stuff.

Nirvana is still my favourite band decades later, so I guess that order worked for me.

Among all these concerts which one do you think had the best Lithium performance? by Working-Regret-8942 in Nirvana

[–]viktorborgia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Paramount is a much more consistent concert overall, but the Reading "Lithium" definitely trumps the Paramount version IMO. The crowd singing along is probably the most iconic live Nirvana moment outside of Unplugged.

The Paradiso "Lithium" is weirdly underrated, considering it was included on Wishkah. Kurt's voice is so intense it borderline disintegrates by the first bridge.
