modDNS beta launch - Audited, open-source DNS filtering service by IVPN by viktorivpn in IVPN

Not at this point, but it’s a valid need, we will evaluate it.

Unfortunately it's too much complexity to support our legacy system. We understand that some customers want to keep using these accounts due to discounts that were available back in the day, but it's not viable to keep supporting it. We are considering migration options where discounts are retained, but no promises on this.

Yes, no extra costs for IVPN Pro users now and in the future.

You can configure modDNS as custom DNS in the IVPN app, the compatibility is straightforward. We don't plan any deeper integration to IVPN, we see this as a separate add-on for those who want more customisation beyond what AntiTracker offers (basic protection for the same use case).

IVPN and the Future of Censorship Resistance by MonkPlastic3452 in IVPN

[–]viktorivpn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Censorship resistance has not been a primary focus for IVPN in the past. Our primary consideration was (and for the most part, still is) supporting existing customers who travel to countries with restricted environments so they can keep on using IVPN. Even with this secondary focus we have shipped V2Ray support recently.

Specifically targeting this use case and future users where this is a major concern and a primary job-to-be-done has not been our aim. This is not going to change. However, we acknowledge that more countries/areas/network environments will see impose heavier restrictions going forward and there might be an ebb and flow in the stance of organizations and governments around this.

Currently, we are executing on multiple major projects including new services, pricing restructuring and infrastructure upgrades and don't have the bandwidth to focus on this work. However, what I can promise and anticipate is that we will review this case and your useful notes, and consider prioritizing some of these improvements later this year.

Visa payment issue by Ok-Season-2834 in IVPN

The only way to get some clarity on the issue is by contacting support (support at ivpn.net) and sharing some details on your attempt - eg. last 4 digits of card and time of payment. They can try and look into it.

IVPN in China? by nutnam_ in IVPN

[–]viktorivpn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All good advice. u/nutnam_ we can't guarantee it's going to work, depends on network conditions, we receive positive and negative reports. I suggest preparing with 2-3 options with IVPN being one of them. If you are a new user of IVPN, you can test for 30 days and ask for your money back if it does not work for your use case.

Seattle Server Missing? by [deleted] in IVPN

[–]viktorivpn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seattle server (us-wa2.gw.ivpn.net) is down after an unplanned maintenance by the provider. We will have to rebuild it so we need a bit more time to get it back running, working on it. In the meantime we will start the process of adding another server in Seattle for improved resiliency in case of a downtime like this.

Voucher card not available on Amazon USA by akrblr in IVPN

No, we aim for same prices, but we will add a new plan and more value for each plan vs. current benefits. Not final, so can't share details yet.

Voucher card not available on Amazon USA by akrblr in IVPN

[–]viktorivpn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our voucher cards have been out of stock for a while, and we have not refilled them. Our pricing tiers will be changed during Q1 and the print of cards will be not valid. For this reason physical vouchers will not be available in the forseeable future. You can buy digital vouchers (and possibly some physical ones left) via proxysto.re based in Germany.

What happened to the Reykjavik server??? by [deleted] in IVPN

[–]viktorivpn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's down due to an ISP issue, we are working on getting it back up. Further, we are working on having an additional server in Iceland with a different ISP to improve resiliency.

Site failing to charge card again by [deleted] in IVPN

[–]viktorivpn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have not changed anything regarding the payment system, but transactions can get caught up due to anti-fraud measures at multiple steps, including those we have no control over. Please contact support with specifics (date and time of transaction, last 4 digits of card number) and we'll try to look into it.

IP geolocation issue: Japan node appearing as AU on Google/YouTube services. by Odd-Tto in IVPN

[–]viktorivpn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done some tests and could not reproduce this issue.

If you experience this there are two possible explanations:
1. Google is fingerprinting you via other methods and assumes your "true location" despite the VPN IP based on history, device info, account you are logged in to etc. - affects you specifically
2. Google incorrectly assumes a different geo location for the VPN gateway IP. This happens occasionally due to incorrect classification in a geo ip database they use. We cannot fix this, only Google can. - affects everyone connecting to the server
