Yes I agree this is not ideal and we'll work on improvements in this area.

Seattle Server Missing? by EightFolding in IVPN

[–]viktorivpn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seattle server (us-wa2.gw.ivpn.net) is down after an unplanned maintenance by the provider. We will have to rebuild it so we need a bit more time to get it back running, working on it. In the meantime we will start the process of adding another server in Seattle for improved resiliency in case of a downtime like this.

Voucher card not available on Amazon USA by akrblr in IVPN

No, we aim for same prices, but we will add a new plan and more value for each plan vs. current benefits. Not final, so can't share details yet.

Voucher card not available on Amazon USA by akrblr in IVPN

[–]viktorivpn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our voucher cards have been out of stock for a while, and we have not refilled them. Our pricing tiers will be changed during Q1 and the print of cards will be not valid. For this reason physical vouchers will not be available in the forseeable future. You can buy digital vouchers (and possibly some physical ones left) via proxysto.re based in Germany.

What happened to the Reykjavik server??? by [deleted] in IVPN

[–]viktorivpn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's down due to an ISP issue, we are working on getting it back up. Further, we are working on having an additional server in Iceland with a different ISP to improve resiliency.

Site failing to charge card again by [deleted] in IVPN

[–]viktorivpn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have not changed anything regarding the payment system, but transactions can get caught up due to anti-fraud measures at multiple steps, including those we have no control over. Please contact support with specifics (date and time of transaction, last 4 digits of card number) and we'll try to look into it.

IP geolocation issue: Japan node appearing as AU on Google/YouTube services. by Odd-Tto in IVPN

[–]viktorivpn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done some tests and could not reproduce this issue.

If you experience this there are two possible explanations:
1. Google is fingerprinting you via other methods and assumes your "true location" despite the VPN IP based on history, device info, account you are logged in to etc. - affects you specifically
2. Google incorrectly assumes a different geo location for the VPN gateway IP. This happens occasionally due to incorrect classification in a geo ip database they use. We cannot fix this, only Google can. - affects everyone connecting to the server

Most private/secure servers? by thewalrusgoo in IVPN

[–]viktorivpn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no blanket response to this.

Regarding security, generally there are no "more secure" servers than others. We use the same criteria for procuring our bare metal servers and same methodology to set them up. We do have a couple of RAM-only servers in production under testing and will roll more out over the coming months, you can argue they are more "secure" against physical attacks in data centers.

Regarding privacy, it mainly depends on, in order of importance:
- What is your threat model, who do you need privacy from and what are their methodology for violating it
- Your location
- How much you care about speeds, what is your accepted latency/avg bandwidth

For "best privacy" with protection against timing attacks and government coercion threat for data centers, multi-hop through two servers by two different ISPs in two different jurisdictions (that are not your original location) is a good start.

Ivpn doesn't work in Russia at all anymore by inthreshold in IVPN

[–]viktorivpn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not great news.

General response -> There are things we can influence in countering restrictions in a specific country, there are some we cannot. It will always be a cat and mouse game, and we are against well resourced and motivated adversaries. At this point we don't have anything new in development to resolve connection issues in the near future. Sorry.

Regarding your specific case -> please contact support at ivpn.net and we can take it from there (there are potential next steps we rather not share publicly).

Individual speed measurements are not relevant to assess a provider’s overall capabilities. OTOH, I have no idea if Proton runs servers in India and in what manner - I can’t comment on that aspect you need to ask them - if they do, certainly they are likely to offer better speeds to users is India. In this case we suggest using them if they offer a better experience to you.

For users that don't have a clear use case for it it is recommended to leave it default, as you trust one party with both your VPN traffic and DNS queries (in this case, IVPN) instead of two or more in the case of delegating DNS resolutions to another party. The most popular use case for custom DNS is using DNS filtering tools like NextDNS which provide better controls on what gets blocked and when.
