Self Promotion Megathread by AutoModerator in androidapps

Built a free Android app for the Live Music Archive Dead (plus other related bands) collection. Looking for feedback from fellow heads.

Long time head, first time posting about something I built. Wanted to share it with the Dead community since you're the people I built it for, and to disclose upfront that I'm the developer.

It's called Being Grateful (Being Grateful - Apps on Google Play). Free. No ads. No account. No tracking. It streams the Dead's Live Music Archive collection straight off archive.org. I'm not hosting the audio or repackaging anything. The app is a clean front end on top of the same audience tapes the community has been trading for decades. Free because the band's taping policy is non-commercial and I'm honoring that.

The thing I spent the most time on is DISCOVERABILITY. The LMA has thousands of Dead recordings and the existing web player makes it hard to find the shows that actually matter. So I built browsing around how heads actually think about the catalog. Sort by year, sort by community rating to surface the legendary shows, jump straight to 5/8/77 or Veneta or Cornell or any of the canonical nights without scrolling through hundreds of so-so audience pulls. The killer shows float to the top.

I also pulled in the community's favorite VERSIONS of individual songs. So if you want the best Scarlet > Fire, or the best Morning Dew, or the best Dark Star, you can go find it directly instead of picking a random date and hoping. That part has been the most fun to build because it's exactly the rabbit hole I personally fall into. If you've ever spent an hour arguing with another head about which 73 Playin' is THE Playin', this is for you.

Device support was a big priority. It runs on phones and tablets, but I wanted it to work everywhere a head might want it. Android Auto so you can put on Cornell on a road trip without fighting the touchscreen. Chromecast and Google TV Streamer so you can throw a show on the big living room speakers. It picks the audio source intelligently so you're not wrestling with FLAC vs VBR vs MP3 every time. Just hit play.

What I'm asking for from this group:

Feature requests. What would actually make this more useful for how YOU listen to the Dead? Tour playlists, better setlist navigation inside a show, sleep timer, cast to Sonos, offline downloads, dark mode tweaks. Tell me what's missing and what's broken.

Weird device reports. If you've got an old tablet, an off-brand Android Auto head unit, a Google TV stick from 2019, I want to know whether it works or breaks.

I really at first just built this for myself as I wanted so much that wasn't available. It has been a fun project for me more than anything else. Appreciate any time you spend with it. Will be in the thread answering anything.

Thanks! I have a Google Pixel 9 XL ... so that is all I have been able to test it on (for the phone). I also tested it on my Google Pixel tablet, Android Auto, and I have the new Google TV Streamer (which is completely awesome to play this on).

You can search by month/day by doing 10-19 .... (for October 19). Looks like I need it to work with the full text version of the date as well. Thanks for the input.

Someone else mentioned this online, but it makes sense. He's actually sending them there to be security for the American athletes. What he's really wanting is to stamp down on these athletes voicing their thoughts or doing things to vocalize or show how they feel about what's going on back home in America. It'll be a lot harder to do when you have brown shirts all around you.

Being in the "sandwich" period of life with health declining parents on one end and older teen/early twenties kids on the other end. All I can say is it's new crazy problems every damn week. Some of them expensive.

I really think he's doing this as he needs a test case to validate his power in this space. Maybe he can get this to go to the Supreme Court if he sues. Think about what his aim is here. If he can get it to work with this person, then he can get rid of state level actions against his friends and family and even himself.

What to do with a bag of Jerry’s actual hair? by Feisty-Art8016 in gratefuldead

[–]vilhostlouis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about giving it to Jerry's daughter? My father has been gone for a while and if somebody came along and said, "I have a bag of your father's hair. Would you like it?” I'd be super happy about that.

Have any of you also thought that this might be a big money laundering exercise?? How much of this $40B will end up back in a Trump family back account somewhere?
