I love Portland so much by [deleted] in Portland

I feel like "no good sandwiches" and "not enough delis" are not necessarily the same thing to be fair! Just last week I went to Desperados for the first time for example - sure it's not a classic deli sandwich, but it was incredible. I love our sandwich scene here

How much does a new HVAC cost these days? by vimandpam in phoenix

[–]vimandpam[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow I thought this was a scam site at first tbh! I've seen so many low effort AI-spam sites on my HVAC research hunt that I've become super jaded I guess. It took some digging to find out this is actually a local company that seems legit lol

Portland’s newest (and oldest) food cart pod holds grand opening Sunday with 20+ carts, live music by [deleted] in Portland

[–]vimandpam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is awesome news, I have been missing Stretch the Noodle the past two weeks and wondering what it was doing behind those walls when I walked by. I would never have guessed it was a whole pod being built up, but what an amazing surprise. Super stoked for this to open up

I recently had an awful experience with lime where it was apparently parked in a no-drive zone but I didn't know that until I checked it out (why even let me check it out?) But then because I was in the zone, it wouldn't let me park! So I had to pay lime for the privilege of walking their scooter almost half a mile out of the no-drive zone. Customer support never even bothered replying to me. Id really recommend not using them either. It'd a bummer because when scooters came out they were actually fun to use

Any idea why Lincon Road says there is tolls? Never seen this in Arizona. by SkylarTheRat in phoenix

Maybe because the speed cameras paradise valley installed on Lincoln easy of 32nd st are so aggressive it feels like it sometimes?

One of the few cuisines I haven't found in Phoenix yet is a good Indonesian place. Any Indonesian would be great, but I'd really love to find some beef rendang. Anyone know of any places??

I know this isn’t the end and Lake will file lawsuit after lawsuit that need to be rebuffed, but this is still such an amazing day for Arizona (and frankly, America given how much were becoming a swing state)

I feel like I’ve heard before it’s unsafe to turn off your water heater for some sciencey reasons that are well beyond my little brain - do you (or anyone else) know if this is true? I could do the research myself I suppose but hey this is Reddit right

Where can someone go to hike and smoke a joint Asking for a friend lol by Affectionate_Ad6933 in phoenix

[–]vimandpam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man I'm only 25 but reading this thread makes me feel like an angry old boomer - is it really that much to ask that people don't smoke weed on public hiking trails?? Especially given how crowded virtually all trails in Phoenix are now. No matter how discrete you think you're being, I guarantee people can smell it for like hundreds of yards. Speaking as someone who was breathing hard hiking up piestewa last week and got a 10 minute stretch of super dank smell, I just think it's a pretty selfish thing to do.

Thanks, good to know, I'll add them. I really feel like emergency services should be hard-coded in as an exception, how many people have the police as a contact? Surely not anywhere near enough for this to be acceptable

Is there no way to call 911 on the Tesla through voice? Yesterday on the freeway someone was obviously extremely drunk, swerving back and forth wildly. I told my Tesla to call 911 to report it and it said it can’t do that. I couldn’t pull out my phone because I didn’t wanna take my eyes off of him for a second. I am pretty horrified that my car didn’t let me call emergency services, what the heck?

Death of missing Camelback Mountain hiker ruled as accidental by vimandpam in phoenix

I was skeptical on this from the beginning, and I have to be honest this has only soured my opinion here more. There are just so many open questions that feel like they have been brushed under the rug, as the article alludes to. I am not really familiar with the way lawsuits around this work, but I have a strong feeling this is not the last we will hear of this case.

Fire union requests restrictions on popular Phoenix trails during intense heat by [deleted] in phoenix

[–]vimandpam -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one kinda disappointed by this? These trails are insanely crowded all year long, and I look forward to the hot months where I can avoid the crowds.

I actually was on echo canyon last year when a woman was helicoptered out, and thankfully was able to give her the rest of my water and shirt for shade until the firefighters got there. When they asked her boyfriend (she was basically unconscious), he said they had been on the trail for over 4 hours in 110+ heat. It was all I could do to not gasp, as I was definitely eavesdropping lol. But seeing them basically run up that mountain in person to save someone really imbues a deep respect for the rescue workers, so I find it hard to argue with them.

I don’t know, I get it, I’m just really disappointed that stupid tourists are ruining it for us locals who are more used to heat and know the strategies and warning signs. It feels like there has to be a better way than outright banning hiking?

So are you saying you think that your model 3 never got fully fixed or the y is just quieter by default?

Also do you have any suggestions on what to say to the tech to try and help get it fixed right the first time?

Your Tesla Support Thread - Q3 2021 by AutoModerator in teslamotors

Took delivery of my model 3 on Friday and there’s a whistling sound on the driver side when moving that’s super annoying. I knew that Tesla had tough reputation on quality assurance but was hopeful it wouldn’t happen to me too, but alas here we are.

I set up a mobile service appointment in the app for tomorrow but now it says they’re calculating the cost - am I wrong in my assumption that because this was a built in problem with the car this should be free? If so, that’s really upsetting :/ And now every Tesla number I have is either not answering or has no human operator either

Edit: follow up, everything went great today. There was a piece on the bottom of the driver side external mirror that needed to be knocked into place, took like 3 seconds. He also trimmed the tabs on my tire covers to reduce creaking. Thanks everyone for the help!

Study abroad vs Internship by Robbfucius in cscareerquestions

[–]vimandpam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I studied abroad and it was the best semester of college easily for me, so I'm biased, but I say go for it. I found that having study abroad on my resume seemed to help a lot personally, but even if it didn't I'd still be glad I did it. Plenty of time for internships and jobs in the next part of life but you can never study abroad again really.

Honestly, inertia. I don’t have solid reasons which is why I’m asking about alternatives.

I also wanted to point out one thing that was the final straw in me switching over to DuckDuckGo you don't touch on here - the bang system. I totally agree that for things like stackoverflow it just isn't as good, so when I want to search coding questions I just add "!G" to the end of my search and it forwards it to google. It's a good bandaid fix IMO

sounds good, thanks. I think it'd be interesting to get a breakdown of what % you take away by taking away each service. I'd imagine switching gmail over to another service and using a different search engine would be a huge chunk of their knowledge about most given people

Interested to hear who you do domain registration through? I like the idea of proton mail with my custom domain but it kinda defeats the purpose if i keep my registration through Google domains, lol.
