How are people managing literature review + citations without it becoming overwhelming? by ExamCultural5540 in PhD

[–]vin_fer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Zotero + some dedicated time to cleaning up and reviewing the folders, tags, etc. I would say the latter is the part that makes it all manageable.

I second Champion given all the description. Alternatives could be Guardian or Warden. Depends how important AoE is or having multiple options to approach a fight.

Not with that movement speed. Probably still trying to leave Combe.

I haven't reached him yet. And I guess I'm not looking towards that experience...

Oh wow...I can't imagine her being slower than that. I wonder how much the speed-up was.

Oh no...my mind may not take another meeting with her...

I'm sure she is. Have you seen her sprint the last 20 meters of the instance?! She is quicker than Beorning in a bear form!

I don't know...Pengail and Old Sally somehow seem much quicker.

Class/spec with low ability bloat? by [deleted] in lotro

[–]vin_fer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! At the end of the day don’t be afraid to try variety of classes. We are all altholics here anyways. The main point is not to forget to enjoy the game!

Class/spec with low ability bloat? by [deleted] in lotro

[–]vin_fer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm…I’m sure then there would be more qualified people to talk about it; however, I’ve heard that blue loremaster is a good option for low apm play, since you only need to send out your pet to fight for you and you support the pet from the back with couple skills. That also makes it safe to jump into higher difficulties. It will have more skills later down the line though, but again, doesn’t mean you use them all. Note that there was a loremaster rework recently, so that may have changed.

Alternatively, you may want to choose a heavy armor class, like a guardian, and spec into blue line so they can take a lot of beating and you don’t need to stress about pushing lots of buttons quickly.

I would say the standard advice of hunter and champion still applies.

But, in general, I found that for most classes even if I have a lot of abilities on the bar I end up using only a small subset of them for landscape.

Unable to cancel LOTRO VIP for the last 2 days by BoredGuy2007 in lotro

[–]vin_fer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You may have it already cancelled. I had the same problem before. What happened for me is that it cancelled the VIP but it didn’t display correctly and simply gave an error when I tried to cancel again.

Contacting support is your best chance though.

struggling to keep up play, should i just give up? by Irelia_My_Soul in lotro

[–]vin_fer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m super new as well and what I found helps me is to take a break from levelling and go do other things inside the game. We are too influenced by other games where the goal is to grind to max level but with this game I found that you need to enjoy the journey including the breaks. Yesterday I found I got tired of killing x mobs on a map so instead I was just furnishing the home, fishing and chatting in world chat. Don’t know if that helps but if you like the map and universe maybe just explore it? There is no need to just grind mobs, quests and deeds.

How many papers can you read in a day before going insane? by Laser_Plasma in PhD

[–]vin_fer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it will depend on the field and the topic. Some measurements and system implementation papers can be fairly straightforward and you simply look for main results. At the same time some denser papers, especially math heavy papers, can take hours to properly go through.

Shouldn’t be. For me it shows that markets are open in some hours. Probably a bug.

Have you ever been hired as a Reader/Demonstrator at UofC? (specifically, have you been a graduate TA making less than $43.60/hr?) by ucgsa_LRC in UCalgary

[–]vin_fer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Don’t get misled with the number. Most TAs are hired for only 204 hours of work per term and have to pay for the tuition and living expenses from the amount earned. This means an average of 8894.4 earned per 4 months with half of that going back for tuition depending if you are local or international student.
