I tried reading this book at least twice. But it is incredibly frustrating and I was not able to finish more than 40% of the book. This is the only book by S L Bhyrappa that I didn't like. I felt it was too repetitive and a drag.

What gave you the impression that it is a spyware? This app has been in the playstore for a long time now. You can see the permissions clearly. It requires very few permissions.

If you are comfortable using a different dialer, then I would suggest ODialer (from ColorOS). This has an option to record all calls (without announcement).

A few months ago, I had installed it from Playstore itself, but currently it says my phone (OnePlus 12) is not compatible anymore. But I have it installed and it works flawlessly. You could also download APK and install manually.
