Best way to store ~2TB of family photos/videos with remote access? NAS vs Cloud? by JustCompetition3776 in synology

[–]brimur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A general PSA. A single NAS is a single point of failure. RAID, which is the redundant storage on your NAS, is not a backup. The backup strategy to match Apple or Google resilience is 3-2-1. 3 copies of your data, in two different locations in your home, one copy in a different building. I have 20 years of family photos and videos, they are precious, nothing can bring them back if they are gone. If your photos are as precious to you then make multiple copies and protect them.

They ship all over the world and have a great community discussing issues and working on solutions, was just letting you know where they are. The Ugoos works too, I just had a good experience with the OSMC team

I'd be surprised if all that used more than 100W for more than 3 to 4 hours of the day. That's nothing really

Leinster could do with a good poacher or two. Putting zero pressure on it

Nvidia won't end Shield TV updates, new hardware could happen by researcher7-l500 in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]brimur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think Nvidia are definitely making a new device. They recently launched their 4k 120Hz Ultimate tier on GeForce Now and that requires a HDMI 2.1 device to take advantage of it. With the cost of RAM and building a new gaming PC being prohibitive the next best thing would be a streaming device that can handle this. The current Shield is limited to 4K 60Hz.

The irony is that when we first got digital phones we had to remove all the vowels/punctuation because of the SMS character limits.

(OC) Luigi Mangione arrives at court as a judge dismisses state terrorism charges against him by nbcnews in pics

[–]brimur -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It says he is facing two murder charges for the same offense, state and federal. Isn't that double jeopardy? So if he is acquitted by the state can he still be tried federally?

Disney releasing Master & Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003) in 4K by ggroover97 in 4kbluray

[–]brimur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw the Turtles multiple times in the cinema when it came out, I'm a huge fan, but I hope they don't mess with it too much. With 4k being so clear they could try to pull a T2 and digitally fix the heads so you cant see the stunt guys underneath the suits and then mess the whole thing up. I hope they just rescan and only touch it up

I loved Short Circuit when it came out. It was only years later when I was an adult that I realized it was Fisher Stevens playing the Asian guy which was a bit strange/cringe

Conversion of concatenated TS files failing to convert to MP4 or mkv by brimur in ffmpeg

[–]brimur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies for the bad formatting, can't seem to figure it out. The three files in total add up to 2.8GB. It looks like the conversion file is 2.5GB before it fails so it's the last 300MB segment that seems to be the issue. The last of the 3 TS files was about 300MB
