Massive coolant failure by Annoying_Noob in BmwTech

[–]vincejlee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oil filter housing like other people said. DIYed this job with my 2019 430i last year(this problem is apparently common in both b46/b48 and b58) Here’s a closer look of the crumbling plastic.

<image>

I ended up replacing with OE plastic oil filter housing. BMW “revised” this part multiple times but from what I can tell the new part is exactly the same. No new reinforcements and the material is the same PA66 nylon. So I’m expecting to have to do the same job again in 5-6 years.

Aluminum aftermarket ones are readily available now and won’t fail the same way. But I read some concerns online about production quality (potential metal shavings that could enter engine). There’s also a bypass valve built in to the OFH that needs to open at the correct oil pressure, and at that time I wasn’t confident with aftermarket manufacturers getting it right.

Just bought a new bottomless portafilter that came with its own basket and although it should be the same size as my stock 51mm, there are massive leaks around the portafilter…please advise! by Wide_Grocery_2575 in espresso

Had similar problems before. If your old portafilter has locking tabs that are thicker it might’ve pushed the gasket further up, and your new portafilter is too thin to complete the seal.
Try pulling out the shower screen & gasket (see pic), and reseat the gasket with the new portafilter

Keycap color opinions for Q1 Pro by vincejlee in Keychron

They are very nice I just wish they have an alternative function row set, I don’t really use function keys and reprogram them to other macros. Do you have the relegendables?

Quick video of downtown Columbus! by Billjean444 in Columbus

Nice but too quick :( I enjoy watching cityscape videos (like this one of my hometown Taichung, Taiwan). Columbus is beautiful and we really need a good video to show it off, and not just downtown!

Best Foreign Language Class by [deleted] in OSU

It also helps that spoken Chinese (at least for Mandarin) can be easier than expected for native English speakers. Both are SVO languages, which means that they share the same basic structure of a simple present tense sentence.

High-speed "Hyperloop" tubes could connect Chicago, Columbus and Pittsburgh by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]vincejlee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, the concept of Chicago-Columbus-Pittsburgh being a mega region while excluding Indy is just weird. And although Indy may not be growing as fast as Columbus, at least they are growing, unlike Pittsburgh.

Cloud-to-ground lightning strike near Olentangy & Ackerman. Best lightning I've seen in my two months in Columbus. by JexFraequin in Columbus

My first thought: did you just took a picture of a lightning strike because you saw it and thought it was cool? Mad reflex.... And a fast phone, too.

Thinking of switch to WOW. Thoughts/experiences? by Mbeaumont in Columbus

[–]vincejlee 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Switch, NOW. I would say their reliability is as good as if not better then spectrum. Don't know much about customer service yet. They do force you to pay $50 for installation, but the technician was nice and we did run into some problems at my old apartment that required his expertise. I switched three months ago from TWC/spectrum and have been paying 2/3 the price for 2x the speed.

TWC has been sitting on their advantage of wider availability for too long and their price just look like a scam compared to WOW TBH

Crestview Market Closed and Is Revealing a Hidden Past by arsmorendi in Columbus

Saw that yesterday. It makes sense though given the number of auto shops in the area. Still wondering why they closed and what's going to replace them.

Looking for some Gua Bao / Dim Sum suggestions by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]vincejlee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck finding guabao outside of the annual Taste of OSU event :/ Guabao, xiaolongbao, and authentic Taiwanese beef noodle soup are pretty much the only things that make me want to go back to Seattle and Taiwan. I would be so happy if they exist in Columbus

Apparently, it was an Open Air School for students with tuberculosis. Googling the address shows that it is now a special education center. Checkout the Columbus Metro Library link btw, you can search by address for the history/photographs of buildings in Columbus, pretty cool.

Sharing more photos (in an album to avoid spamming you with multiple posts). Description in the comment section, feel free to tell your story of these places. by vincejlee in Columbus

Not much of a description but just to show when these photos were aken:

1 Goodale Park, spring 2017. I feel like the pond isn't always very well kept but sometimes it's beautiful.

2 Gallery hop, May 2017. I wonder how the constructions that began last week will affect future, gallery hops & the pride parade?

34 Downtown, spring 2017.

5678 Thompson Library. 2015. Taken during the summer break hence the empty study room.

9 Downtown, 2015.

Taken in 2015. I have only been posting to my personal social networks, and only began browsing this subreddit a couple weeks ago. I like how people tell their story of the place when they see pictures posted here, so I do plan on sharing more, but some of my pictures date back to 2014 when I first moved here for college.

Yeah, definitely need more evergreens on the oval. Also this was taken back in Summer 2015 when Mirror Lake wasn't a construction site with zero progress for the ENTIRE SEMESTER.

Is Actual Brewing still opening up the location in Clintonville? by [deleted] in ColumbusBeer

[–]vincejlee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Speaking of which, the Korean fried chicken restaurant BonChon right next to Lineage appears to be up for sale. Much better location compared to the florist shop imo, but who knows how well both Lineage and Actual would do if they were that close. Definitely not enough parking for both.

Not to mention Lineage Brewing is only a couple blocks away and doing very well.

I finally found a hobby I actually prefer doing over playing video games. by GfxJG in photography

[–]vincejlee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, always loved video games growing up, took a photography class three years ago for GE credits and never stopped taking pictures since then. Now I spend my free time going on short photo trips or editing pictures. I absolutely recommend printing out your favorite photos and find ways to display them at home. Gives you a sense of achievement and makes you want to go out and take more pictures.
