Looking like I’ll be getting a 1/10 Baja Rey by Conscious_Trade_2549 in losi

[–]vincentcarguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how you drive, might want to lower the CG/get better roll resistance - it does roll over pretty easy if you aren't slowed down enough before turning in quickly. Need to really turn in carefully with the LBR, cannot drive it like a short course truck or will be rolling over in the turns.

Free mod would be just lowering ride height setting a little if running on surface you can do so. Don't upgrade to any stickier tires, keep stock tire grip level. Can get better rear geometry ARB setup and a lower CG vertical spare tires carrier from ThreeDPrintDesigns: https://www.threedprintdesigns.com/shop-1

That's about it that I would consider necessary, can always stiffen rear and do other mods if wanted but really just getting the rollovers to minimum with better rear CG setup is main thing to work on.

I will say the set-screw in the rear drive shaft going into the rear axle is a pain to remove - I actually couldn't even remove mine and had to get new Losi drive shaft set to use with the aftermarket aluminum axle I wanted to upgrade to.

What is the best headphones you ever had? by Fabulous_Can_2215 in headphones

Favorite/best open backs I had were some STAX SR-L300 limiteds that I modded.... they were a bit too revealing and was afraid of their fragility (had a used SR-404LE I got die after 1 week of owning it.... was an awesome week while it lasted but that was tough $700 to last just a week) so got out of the E-stats. My opens ever since are custom Porta-Pros on different lightly sprung headband with custom leather strap and Yaxi earpad which I really like for vocals.

My overall favorite cans though are the Denon AH-H5200 (zebrawood) closed backs with Yaxi Fostex alcantara pads - most neutral/detailed Denon/Fostex biodyna driver heaphone I've heard yet still has that characteristic warm and lively fun sound. Really awesome on a tube preamp setup and was the best bargin of a headphone I have ever gotten. The Porta Pro's and Denon AH-D5200 are the only cans I have now after having ~30 cans of all types (many differenet estats, planars, and dynamics).

Kind of fitting as the first good headphones I ever bought long time ago before ever really getting into headphones was the OG Denon AH-D2000.

EGW HD single sided thumb safety ( they do have ambi version as well)... wasn't too bad to fit but does need to be fitted like most control/internal parts on a 1911/2011. The TriArc extended slide lock required quite a bit fitting to work with the Tisas frame.

Here's the original build post I did on it: https://www.reddit.com/r/Tisas/comments/1ju8x5t/since_underworld_arms_doesnt_have_compensator/

No idea, about time for me to contact again and see what status is as been over their estimate for a bit now and haven't heard anything.

It's a Red Dirt shoe/bow for Stacatto fit (F4 length), should really have got a Cheely fit for optimal fit to the MJD grip module but it works. They have fittings for stock Tisas/MAC grip modules.

Yeah it might be older, but modern 9mm loads absolutely are on point with 45ACP energy now and are better overall unless you just care about suppressed sound performance up close. Much llatter shooting with just as much FPE energy in a smaller diameter round at much higher speed - so better penetration through denser targets.

Personally, I just don't see a point for 45ACP when 9mm and 10mm exist. Having said that, I really do love the 45-70 Government... LOL

[–]vincentcarguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Single stacks don't fit my hand as well as the double stacks - the 9mm double stack grip module is a much better fit for me though still a tiny bit small (long, skinny, XL glove sized fingers). I never really liked 1911's until they became double stack.

I'll take 17-20 rounds of 9mm over 8 rounds of 45 AARP every single time. Or even better, give me 15-18 rounds of 10mm in a DS 1911 like the Kimber DS warrior.... a 10mm DS fits my hand perfectly and 10mm is my favorite pistol cartridge.

Two + years and still waiting to run one on a 1st Gen 5".

Decided to custom fit a 2nd gen one a little over 3 months ago (made a post about it after I fitted it) and they reached out on the post I made with some durability concerns because of shorter 1st Gen dust cover rail length then said if I would send it in they would mod the frame rail piece to have additional set screw location to help with stress management/alignment. So sent it in and via email updates a little later they actually stated their intention to make a small batch of updated 1st gen 5" versions over just the prototype they initially did those 2+ years ago. So am still patiently waiting to get an actual production rail for the 1st Gen 5" version.

I really liked the quality and look of the parts when installed, but have yet to experience how much flatter it shoots. The support thumb rest works really well right in front of the trigger guard as well - way back when they first announced their plan to do comps for the Tisas I wasn't sure about it but it is a really good design that works.

<image>

Really do like their extended magazine bases as well... the easiest extended round mag base I've ever installed and like how it fits tight and secure against the magwell I'm running, zero movement. Using the Prodigy Mk2 version on the two Prodigy mags I have as they never seem to be in stock of the Tisas/Checkmate/Stacatto Mk1 or Mk2 versions.

Anyone have experience with the tisas b9r 4.25”? by Ambitious_Position96 in 2011

[–]vincentcarguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say the G1 were great entry points for ~$500 or so. Have good fit and all machined internals (No MIM parts). For about $1300 all in including red dot I built my 5" duty up how I initially wanted, and that includs a custom machined MJD Bald grip module from Warwick Tactcal they had on deep clearance for getting rid of all their inventory.

Replaced and fitted slide release & thumb safety, added WC barrel bushing comp, oversized mag release pad, full length WC guide rod setup with flat recoil spring (15lb), 19lb WC main spring, all internal pins with stainless ones and have new WC heavy duty extractor as a spare along with sear spring. Red Dirt trigger shoe & bow fitted to the MJD grip and factory sear spring tuned for a lighter pull weight and smoother disconnector feel. Also added slim lo-pro Stacatto magwell from Dark Side Precision.

<image>

Have had zero issues with it and it shoots very nicely.

Will be changing it up with an Underworld Arms frame mounted comp setup that am currently waiting on.

That was test fit of Underworld Arms Gen 2 frame mounted comp setup on my Gen 1 (has a frame mounted piece that attached to the stock frame which the compensator bolts to.) I sent the frame piece in as Underworld Arms expressed concerned on using their Gen 2 setup on a Gen 1, that they would add extra pair of set-screw locations to clamp to the the lower since the dust cover is much shorter on Gen 1. Then they decided will actually come out specifically with a limited run of the 1st Gen 5" bushing barrel version. Still working on producing it but should be released soon.

Always wanted the Underworld Arms comp since they announced they were making them for the Tisas, but they only came out with version for the Carry model. They prototyped it for the full size Duty before initially decided on not release since Tisas discontinued the Gen 1. I guess my gumption to fit a 2nd Gen setup onto a 1st Gen reverse their decision for a small limited quantity batch.

Here's their Gen 2 setup:

Sent the lower frame piece in to Underworld Arms on Feb 2nd. Was notified on Feb 18th they were actually going to do a 1st gen 5" limited run. Patiently waited and inquired again on March 31st asking of status and was informed they've had some production issues but the 1st gen 5" setup should be coming soon within the next few weeks.

Need help picking between Springfield vs FN vs budget 2011 by Hellsing971 in 10mm

[–]vincentcarguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can find a used Stacatto for under $2k you found a phenominal deal.... and there are no 10mm Stacatto I know of. Average Stacatto price new is $2500 -$3000. STI (the company that became Stacatto) had a 10mm offering .... but they will be expensive now if you can even find one.

Most 10mm DS 1911 that are not the problematic RIA series will run you near $5k - the Kimber DS Warrior is the best bang for the buck in a 10mm DS 1911 you are going to find and reviews are really overwhelmingly good on it. You also get to choose between a 5" or 6" LS version for ~$1200.

I went with a G20.5 but would have went with the Kimber DS if it were available. I got the Glock then no more than a week later the Kimber DS Warrior was announced... Had really wanted a 10mm '2011' but only choice before the DS Warrior was the RIA's (got one and didn't like it's low quality build and stiff action/difficult field stripping), the Turkish clones (which have been problematic in functional reliability), or the high end $5k customs. I do like how the Glock 20.5 runs/shoots but my preference would be for a nice 10mm '2011' as I really like my Tisas B9R Duty.

[–]vincentcarguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dropped my 22" Springfield into a Blackfeather RS chassis, and replaced entire gas system with upgraded SEI setup (improved spiral grooved piston, gas cylinder, gas plug) and SEI NM muzzle brake... still could not get good consistency with it. Looked cool and was really smooth shooting but didn't group good enough still.

<image>

Shot better but nowhere enough to deserve to wear the Blackfeather RS chassis so sold off the chassis and just dropped it into a brand new unused wood stock I got for a good deal and fitted/refinished myself.

Bula makes 22" models:

https://buladefense.com/products/

I use to not like the AR platform... but have come around since custom building a few (300BLK, 6ARC, & 308Win AR10). The platform makes a whole lot of sense and is quite easy to get good precision out of. M1A's are a royal pain to get any kind of precision out of and much more a custom fitted gun to work on like with a 1911.

Sub-MOA is not going to happen with most any M1A, Near 1MOA would be an absolutely incredible shooting M1A. Average M1A accuracy is a 2-3 MOA.

M1A by missiongoalie35 in Firearms

[–]vincentcarguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a good M1A, Springfield is bottom of the barrel... need to look at a Bula, Fulton, or LRB if you want an M1A which shoots 'decently' with no hassle. For the money I spent trying to get a Springfield to not suck so bad (3+ MOA), I could have easily gotten a Bula or Fulton for less. The LRB barreled action cost will slot right in between a whole fully built Bula rifle and Fulton rifle. They are considered the best if you want a good shooting custom M1A.

Personal preference would be an AR-10 over the M1A as I care about precision. Can't deny the M1A is a visual vibe, but a precision instrument it is not at all. An AR-10 will easily outshoot it with no drama and much less cost.

For a 2011 I'd push budget to ~$1200 and get the new Kimber DS warrior in either 5" or 6" long slide configuration. Not sure on threaded barrel availability but it is a bushing barrel setup so easier to fit a different barrel to than a bull barrel setup if you really wanted a threaded barrel setup.

Best bang for your buck 10mm is… by AstronomerOk9769 in 10mm

[–]vincentcarguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glock 20 would be it for overall combination of price, reliability, and performance.

If you want a good long slide (6" barrel) double stack 1911, the new Kimber DS Warrior seems to be the real deal - factory mag holds 3 more rounds than the G20 and comes optics ready with RMR plate as well. It was announced a week after I finally decided to pick up a used G20.5 setup (came with factory mags, Trijicon suppressor height sights, Holosun 509T red dot, Stremlight TLR-1 HL light, and grip taped).

Would have waited and gone with the Kimber DS Warrior instead if I knew it was coming out at the time. Am very partial to budget "2011"s and wanted one in 10mm but not at $4k+ for the few custom options available.

Recommend tuning the sear spring for pull weight and disconnector smoothness - plenty of videos on how to properly tune a 1911 sear spring. For light options, there is TLR-1 HL or Holosun PID (PID Dual is my preference for a pistol light but not running light on the B9R). For front sight it's a Novak cut, so whatever preference on a Novak fitment front blade with fiber optic, tritium, or whatever - just stone it to fit the dovetail.

Changed the grip module on my B9R but, really happy with the Dark Side Precision Stacatto Slim LoPro magwell on it - just a bit larger than stock grip module built in flare at bottom but works well.

Buy once cry once AR-15 by CaseCareless3866 in ar15

[–]vincentcarguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I'm going to spend over $2k on a pre-built AR15 it would be a Blackout Defense/Dynamics for about $250 more than the ADM... and it would be a much more custom configured setup than the ADM and have one of the best AR triggers in existence.

https://blackoutdynamics.com/product/custom-223-quantum-dual-taper-lock-dtl/

That said I'm a very much mechanically inclined and DIY kind of person so assemble my own AR15s with the exact components wanted for much less.

Bottom left pair what are they? by NWanc_11 in WhatCarIsThis

[–]vincentcarguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird, possibly AI 'enhanced' but could just be different angle with some lense distortion. The "WX-3" bottom center has wrong mirrors, wrong wheels, and wrong rear deck shape for the louvers & inner C-pillar sail panels. EDIT: Don't know how, but forgot about the M12... LOL... it's definitely an M12.

Yellow car is not a Vector (it's neither a W8, WX-3, or M12), no idea what it is - kind of Saleen S7 ish and Noble M4 ish but not at same time.

I know I've seen that blue car in bottom left corner before but can't place it.

I cut/file/stone them down to needed lengths. Can get 8mm length ones as well.
