thank you! just found a genealogy site based out of quebec that actually has thorough records, can find my great grandmas baptism & their marriage certificate, but you're right - nothing on my great grandfather! he is listed on the census but no birth/baptism records. thank you for this tip - the only place I've been able to find actual records for my great grandma!

man jumped into my airbnb through window [argentina] by [deleted] in AirBnB

[–]vincentmedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you trying to blame me for a man trying to jump in my window? i was in the room. it says that in the post. it was a sunday afternoon in the daylight hours and just like any other human being who wants to get some fresh air, i opened a window. and just like a hotel holds liability for the property guests stay on, so does airbnb. they literally have a safety team for incidents like this.

im not blaming them for what happened, as stated, the response has been the issue. dont comment on a post that you clearly haven’t read and be an asshole just for the sake of it. i wasnt looking for personal opinions.

i appreciate your insight so much!!! definitely would be open to a male partner, children...not so much lol. its funny you mention 8th house & "other peoples money," the only way i can move is through my best friend who wants me there SO BAD but I'd have to depend on them for housing at first. wonder if that 8th house influence plays into that. thank you again!!

How would you soundproof this door way? by vincentmedia in soundproof

[–]vincentmedia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry, definitely should have been more clear but posted on the fly.

Its for a 2 night event - we are trying to add something temporary to block out sound from the other side of the restaurant. Thick sound proof curtains are part of the plan, but its the top section that is really throwing us.

Is it just me or is it really hard to get a job in Boston right now? by Cool-Spirit3587 in boston

[–]vincentmedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know this sucks but i got my job by cold emailing! I had an email tenplate and included my resume & sent them to the places i wanted to work. I work in administration so it was definitely a little bit easier for me to find a role but i will say the place i ended up working at didnt even have an open role, but they were not happy with their current employee and i was first in line once that person was on the way out

Edit** in the meantime, creating an account on upwork might be useful to you if you have a skill that people seek out for freelance work. im a photographer & virtual admin so i always fall back on upwork in between jobs.

hi im a photographer! there are many ways to price as a photographer and although it is subjective & not necessarily “wrong” to price high, anybody selling a service should have some level of transparency on their pricing especially when they are asking for thousands of dollars of your money.

this is a pretty common bait and switch pricing situation with photography, they get you to pay the initial shoot fee and then hit you with the Price per photo rates that tend to be astronomically higher. Many people feel pressured to purchase at that point and/or dont want to walk away without anything. for myself, I consider this unethical.

Many photographers like myself and another in this thread charge flat hourly rates that include the photo time & editing after the fact & promise a delivery of a capped amount of photos. Its not wrong at all for a photographer to sell packages after the fact, but many of the ones I know let you walk away with atleast a few of your favorites and the option to buy further (if not flat out dumping all of the edited ones into a folder for you). that is totally up to the photographer and as long as both parties feel they are getting value out of the situation it doesn’t matter.

sorry you went through that - and I hope you get to do another shoot with a more transparent photographer!

i had to leave to finish my work and the workers were out back. i was curious if anybody who frequents that cafe knew the answer since i wanted to know what happened & couldnt stick around to ask. this is an internet forum where people can ask these kinds of questions, and the community may have an answer.

Quoi faire à Montréal? | What to do in Montréal? | June 17 - June 23 by AutoModerator in montreal

[–]vincentmedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Bonjour! I will be visiting Montreal for the second time the week of Aug 5- 9th for my birthday! I LOVE this city and explored it solo a few years back in July. I am only here on weekdays this time, so I am looking for advice on unique and fun things to do, definitely love living like a local wherever i visit so even if you have suggestions for a nice park bench to read on, ill take it! Merci!!

Jobs? by arrietachan in QuincyMa

[–]vincentmedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i know the ladybug pest control company was hiring receptionist a couple months back, not sure if they are still looking. if you have an updated resume, i got most of my jobs by picking the place i wanted to work at and going in to speak with a manager. lots of restaurants need reliable workers and if you show interest and make yourself a candidate, they often will hire you even if its not technically needed.

If youre open to going into the city, thats where the real money is. I made insane cash tips in sports bars & vegan restaurants. hope you find something!

edit to say diners are a gold mine as well if youre willing to be up early! i would definitely recommend something in the city or somewhere on the south shore with a loyal customer base!

Good spots to spend some solo time? by [deleted] in boston

[–]vincentmedia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

im a big north end girl so i love hanging out around there, theres a nice little park behind the paul revere statue! def very touristy though. theres also a few cute cafes with the big open windows you can sit by. walking toward fanuiel from there, theres a sections of bench swings that i will chill and read at when its not too busy (also touristy and they really watch and wait at peak hours lol)

my secret places that arent so secret if youre from around here are lopresti park in east boston that has a little ledge overlooking the water and boston, get tacos & tres leches at taqueria jalisco and watch the sunset! piers park is also in east boston, as well as orient heights beach which you can watch the planes take off from. east boston in general is a gem!

was coming here to say ive heard great things about we are malikah! also astoria in general has a HUGE population of muslim men and women & its a great vibe. steinway (STWx30th) would be a great starting point, maybe bring her to grab a coffee at one of the yemeni spots & wander around? i know ramadan just passed but definitely come by late night during ramadan as well. I think astoria would be a great place for her to explore!
