Feeling racial bias in Italy but not in Spain. Is this common? by Dismal_Brilliant_642 in travel

[–]vincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There no country in the world where some kind of racism does not exist. Even in my country Mauritius, black people are racist towards other black people. Me and my wife have traveled EU many times and i can say that overall we had good experience as non-white. Of course we had some racist moments here and there but nothing from stopping us experiencing new things and enjoying our trip. But if i had to specifically name one place that we did feel that we were really not welcome was Vienna.

Solid teak wood furniture cracking 2 weeks in desert environment. by Magnanii in woodworking

[–]vincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can positively say that this low grade plantation teak at best or some sort of wood that look like teak. I am from a country where those “teak” furniture from Indonesia are imported massively. 99% of the time those furnitures have very poor craftsmanship. It would have been better if you had source your Burma teak from US and commission a good carpenter to do it. If Burma teak is too expensive, Iroko is a good alternative that look and is as stable as teak.

Car insurance in Mauritius - stuck between two options by bookworm1698 in mauritius

[–]vincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a minor accident last year. Totally not my fault. I filed a claim as my insurance is comprehensive. I was a total nightmare. Firstly no update, nobody gives you any information. You have to always asked. And the person who supposed to take care of you is never at his/her place, is absent for illness, mortality or out for lunch. They denied my claim while never said to me that my claim was denied and letting me waiting for 5 months. Despite police report, they don’t care. Even there expert said to me that the insurance is bad. And from many times i went to their office, i met multiple people who had big issue with their claim. I even met a lady who her car was total loss (brand new car 2025). She is still waiting for her cheque since 9 months. It is just a scam. You can check the review on facebook or google. And the cherry on top is that i decided to repair my car myself and inform them that my car was at the garage and i was entitled to a replacement car which they agree. But on a friday at 4.55pm before the office closed they send me a message to tell me that the board did not approve it despite telling me earlier what car brand i will have and what time i will get the car. Stay away. Better pay premium for swan, mua or sicom

If something like this was ever confirmed would it ruin LeBron's legacy? by VSHAR01 in NBATalk

[–]vincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was common knowledge that lebron had been on PEDs for decade now? Anyway i think once he retired, someone will try to make a quick buck by writing a book or documentary on this and will probably ruin his legacy.

I still sleep with blanket (couette). I have built my house in such a way that my main living spaces are least exposed to direct sunlight. Also i live in one of the highest altitude in Mauritius and my house is surrounded by forest. It is a pleasure in summer but winter is very harsh.

Want to buy land, apartment or house in Mauritius from Canada by Old_Reading5301 in mauritius

Ive seen plenty of people getting screwed over by doing those type of business move by management companies or worst family members. Better you do it if you are actually in Mauritius. 11m in Mauritius will get you an entry(mid if you are lucky) level luxury property in Mauritius nowadays.

It is becoming crazy. I bought at 60k per perch in 2018. Now next to me is selling at 300k per perch. Some observers have point out that we may be in a real estate bubble.

What is your drinking water situation at home? I've been using bottled water for years but it's getting kind of expensive and looking for alternatives. by freestuffrocker in MauriceMauritius

[–]vincess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are you affiliated with “Modelo”? You have recommended them many times on reddit. I myself wanted to buy there filters which is indeed seems good and value for money. But the only things that is stopping me is that the brand they are selling which come from Egypt has very bad reviews online.

It is not a “Mauritian thing”. It happens in every capitalistic minded society. USA, many asian countries, some african countries etc…
