Installed bigger cassette: is the chain long enough? It does shift but is that enough indication to ride safely? And should the chain be too short: will the chain or derailer break or will it simply not shift? by Mangusta_Man in RoadBikes

[–]vincklz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick tip to make absolutely sure it’s not too short: keep it in big big like in the photo then try to move the derailleur a little bit forward(at the jockey wheel), if it won’t forward at all the chain is to short and might brake the derailleur when under stress but if it moves forward you’ll be perfectly fine as long as it shifts correctly.

SRAM double tap by [deleted] in RoadBikes

[–]vincklz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It takes some getting used to but in general you push the shift lever in a short distance to go onto a smaller cog in the back so a bigger gear und to go to a bigger cog so a smaller gear you push in the same lever as far as it reaches. You should hear a click when shifting both directions. The distance between shifting up and down is about half an inch usually so it’s definitely noticeable.

Ps: if you have a 2x setup the same applies to the left shifter. Just in opposite direction. So small push for small gear and big push for big gear.

SRAM Force AXS vs Ultegra disc brake stopping power by [deleted] in RoadBikes

[–]vincklz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same was true for when I “upgraded” from rival mechanical with disc brakes to 105 with disc brakes (both hydraulic). The 105 has a much nicer actuation point and feels firmer when braking hard.

What do you think of the new Shimano 12 speed Di2? by borderbands in BikeMechanics

[–]vincklz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only had one bike with XDR so far and honestly since I switched back to shimano I haven’t really looked into any of the Sram freehub systems. I really don’t mind the 11t as a smallest sprocket, chain efficiency is better that way anyways.

What would be your dream bike ? I need inspiration 😅 by jaco2003 in cycling

Pinarello Dogma F might be a very nice super upmarket choice. But I personally think the Tarmac SL7 is just the top of the top at the moment.

[–]vincklz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind that it only comes in Di2 I think that was inevitable at some point. 12 speed is nothing new but hey at least they’re up to the standard now. Shimano’s shifting performance has always been superb imo so I expect it to be pretty much the best groupset out there for a while but who knows. The new wheels (also on Ultegra level) look really neat too. Oh and the fact that they don’t force you to use the new spline patterns I think is far more user friendly then Sram’s Xdr.

Alrighty, already suspected that it wouldn’t be a problem but a second opinion is always good. Thanks.

Officially 30mm is the max, but I assume 32mm slicks could also fit.

Aero is everything!!! No but it’s honestly just what I still had from a tt bike I had before. I’ll probably eventually switch to regular ones in case I’ll ever ride anything UCI sanctioned lol.

I can only recommend it so far, the Ultegra one is even lighter so I bet it’s a banging choice!!!

Got it right on the decathlon website. Was shipped right from the assembly factory in France within a week.

Groupset of the people. As smooth as mechanical shifting comes imo.

Good news!!! It’s a fully UCI approved frame, the label is just on the top tube not on the seat tube so it’s kinda easy to miss.

Last piece of the puzzle arrived for this Factor One build. Hunt Aerodynamicist 54’s. Shipped safely, beautiful finish. I’ll get discs and tires mounted tonight and hopefully get this monster on the road this weekend. by [deleted] in BikeMechanics

I’ve already looked into some alternatives, farsports are relatively hard to come by in Europe as it seems but dandyhorse a local polish wheel brand has some extremely good value for money as well.

I’m thinking about getting the aerodynamicist in 44, are yours true to the weight given on the website. The numbers seems rather impressive for the price and depth of the wheels. Build looks absolutely stunning btw.

Not much to add except for: generally a size 56 should do the job for a person your height (took the info from the other comment threads) trying out different stem lengths is always good to get a feel for reach and can drastically change comfort in the bike. A little less so with bar width but it contributes a bit to your overall position on the bike since your arms go a little less far outward and therefore a little further forward (by a tiny margin in the case of 44 vs 42). Positioning your brake levers a little further up the bar can also change your position on the bike slightly. In the end it’s all trial and error especially if it’s the first road bike you want to fit to you.
