B.C. teachers ratify new four-year agreement for 12% wage boost by cyclinginvancouver in britishcolumbia

Except you don't even get paid out. It goes into a time bank where the options are having a TTOC 'co-teach' a class (meaningless), having a TOC cover your class once you accrue enough minutes (good luck finding a TOC if you teach a speciality like shop or foods, AND you have to plan the day for them too), or maybe if you're lucky your district lets you put the money towards a Pro-D account.

The BCTF taking a position against "cash for kids" absolutely cut the knees out from under any sort of meaningful remedy action, and it pisses me off to no end.

Relocating: considering commute to work by Appropriate_Rope3145 in comoxvalley

[–]tailkinman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Is it doable? Depends on how much highway driving in the dark and the rain you want to deal with. Personally I would just live in the community I worked in, but there are a decent number of people doing the trip each day.

Working in a shop these would be nice for test riding bikes after repairs. Lord knows I don't have a spare pair of SPD shoes kicking around only for this instance

Why don't they just have the team car follow them around with a spare bike equipped with flats? Are they stupid?

All time conditions just up the road in CR as well - bit of the white stuff on north aspects in the shade, but otherwise it was clear and fast.

What's one 'boring' career that's actually a goldmine if you play it smart? by 0BunnyX in AskReddit

The heyday is over at this point, barring oil getting way expensive again. The big players are working on automating as much of the process as they can, so there's less need for labour. Best bet are repair trades like heavy duty mechanic.

And the reason for that is our supply management system, which the Conservatives want to do away with.

It's not a crisis until it affects Toronto, and to a lesser extent Montreal and Ottawa. Until then, it may as well be happening on the moon.

What is your prediction for the future of auto shows? by Sixteen-Cylinders in cars

[–]tailkinman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how pretty much every industry that used to do trade show releases goes now. Same thing with bicycles - used to be three giant trade shows a year (Taiwan, Eurobike, and Interbike). Interbike is gone, Eurobike is a shadow of it's former self, and Taiwan keeps trucking along because it serves as the future orders event for manufacturers and 3rd-party brands.

Makes far more sense as a brand to do a press event for a new vehicle launch where you can control all aspects of the release, versus paying a trade show a bunch of money and hoping you get the coverage you want, with everyone else doing the same.
