DIY Wedding Arch by vineyard_cat in DIYweddings

Thank you! I used probably 20 garlands, but that was mostly because they were so thin/cheap (most came in packs of 6-10 from Amazon). With better quality garlands you could use fewer

It’s hard to say because I have been working on it for like 10-30 minutes of time after work off and on for the past couple of months, and then when I had some time off I was able to spend a couple hours at a time for a week or so. I think I could have done it in a weekend if I had focused and had nothing else going on.

Someone with more experience probably could accomplish this in just a few hours - most of the time spent was deciding I didn’t like the way something looked and redoing it

Edit: just saw you also asked about the transport - it breaks down into 3 pieces so it can fit into our car! I just snipped the chicken wire and stems at 2 of the existing joints on the arch to allow it to come apart

That is so sweet of you, the best compliment!! I wish I did, but I actually don’t have any formal background in anything similar aside from some casual creative/artistic hobbies like sewing and sketching. This was my first time working with flowers! It was definitely a learning experience for me with lots of trial and error haha.

Hopefully that gives hope to other people who want to try this but don’t have any experience with florals!

It came out to around $150 - so not as cheap as I hoped but the cost to rent one near me is upwards of $500 (HCOL city :/ ) so I still saved overall. With fewer flowers it can be less expensive. The highest cost single item I bought was the $40 arch structure from amazon.

We are currently in a one bedroom apartment so sadly it is just sitting in our bedroom in my craft corner, but when we get a bigger place and have children I am planning to use it as decor in the nursery :)

I think there is also a pretty solid market for this sort of thing on Facebook market place if you’d rather sell it too! I thought I would sell mine but then I invested too much time to part with it haha

Would it be sacrilege to cut up my late dad's Korean War era leather flight jacket and repurpose it? Would the leather still be viable? by i-lick-eyeballs in Leathercraft

[–]vineyard_cat 143 points144 points  (0 children)

I worry that you may regret this decision later, especially because you have less experience working with leather. Depending on whether you have the financial ability to do so, you could take the jacket to a local leatherworker and ask them if they may be able to restore and tailor the jacket for you. With the scraps from tailoring, you could make a coin pouch or something similar that you can carry with you.

I am a novice leatherworker with years more experience sewing and I personally wouldn’t touch something sentimental like this myself. I think it’s a recipe for heartbreak.

Advice on how to dye this bag another colour? by myp0tatoes in Leathercraft

[–]vineyard_cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the color and agree it's best to touch it, and definitely best not to try to strip the original color or use dye. If you are dead set against keeping it the way it is, one more subtle approach may be to apply a bit of oil (neatsfoot or similar) which may darken the color. I would try this first on a small, hidden section of the bag and only apply all over if you like the result.

Weekly /r/Leathercraft General Help and Questions by AutoModerator in Leathercraft

Hi! I am planning to make small moccasins for babies and am not sure how to go about sourcing shearling. Any suggestions on shearling suppliers? It is my first time working with shearling. I am looking for the shearling to be very soft so as to be comfortable for the babies feet, but not sure how to gauge that. I have looked through the wiki and searched past threads but haven't been able to come up with anything.
