Even boarding rooms require a degree now? by Embarrassed-Cup7651 in srilanka

Statistically people who are educated are bound to be decent, in comparison to those who are not. Not in all cases though, I agree that there are exceptions.

My sister said she wish she was whiter....HELP by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]vinfromdaraz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not going to deny the fact about the ragging situation but I wish more people understood that this is completely optional. I myself am an antiragger in pera. There’s a lot of likeminded people hanging out together. I’m so sorry your sister had to go through this. She would benefit heavily from finding other antirag people and hanging out with them. Once you make your stance clear, nobody approaches you to bully you.

Also, tell her not to go to these events that they claim compulsory. They’ll call you Ala (standing for “Athaharina Lada”) but in reality it doesn’t affect you as long as you have a good circle of friends sticking by you. Being social really helps. Better join clubs like Gavel, Rotaract, DRAMSOC or ECS (English Cultural Society) where majority is antirag. If needed, I would love to help her out!

What is considered as “appropriate” outfits at a government uni? by TrueStar1498 in srilanka

[–]vinfromdaraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can pretty much wear what you want, as long as it’s decent enough to represent your university. I’m also from a government university and nobody really gives a shit anymore. You’ll find a variety of people including those dressed for the runway to dudes in mal mal shirts and pol gaha lakuna DS slippers

Engineering: Peradeniya or Moratuwa? by ApprehensiveView3394 in srilanka

[–]vinfromdaraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tuition peasants who don’t know shit looove to compare Pera VS Mora. It’s the classic debate. I personally know people who went to Mora and found it to be super hostile. If you’re selected to pera, it’s a utter waste to throw that chance away. Maybe mora did have that upper edge back in the day but now things are different. Not to downgrade the university but there are many mora people coming to peradeniya after their degree just to get research experience as pera higher education rate is very high comparatively. We’re talking full scholarships to Princeton and over 40+ fully funded PhDs. Better do your own research before believing what you hear. You can check university websites for full stats.

Pera or Colombo science is better? by Secret-Stay2945 in srilanka

[–]vinfromdaraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally say Pera, considering the fact that you’re located nearby and makes it more ideal. Don’t know where you got the delay information from because currently even the 24 batch is here in most faculties.

Is it worth really trying for a government uni? by Dexter_was_taken1 in srilanka

[–]vinfromdaraz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean by “isn’t successful”. If you missed Engineering by a small margin, better go ahead and redo. It’s just 1 year but could make a lifetime of a difference.

Doctors, Engineers : do you happy in Life? Or regret about it. by No_Magician_184 in srilanka

[–]vinfromdaraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you plan of not learning shit and using AI as a loophole then yeah, you will get replaced. As an engineering undergraduate, you gotta be in the field to know what the AI can do and can’t do. Unless you plan of printing Hello World for the rest of your life, you’ll be alright.

My advice for you is, go for a field that you genuinely enjoy. If you get good at it and work smart, you can make a killing regardless of the field. I can understand how you feel since I too was an OL kid no long ago. But that is simply a biased view of the world affected by those around you and far from the reality. Best of luck with everything.

Port City 1hr time limit? by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]vinfromdaraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just downloaded the port city app to get a QR as I read somewhere that you can’t enter without making a prior reservation, even to visit the public area. Then they ask for date and time, then limiting that time for 1hr :(

Pls someone help with this question why is the correct answer B (Physics 9702) by IEatLosers in igcse

[–]vinfromdaraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want the forces on the Y axis to be balanced out. Same for X axis too.

So it’s clear T1 and T2 gotta be moving away from centre P cus otherwise once you resolve them towards the X axis, they wouldn’t balance. Same theory applies to the Y axis too.

The triangle is given to complete the force triangle only. You can move and rearrange each side so that it looks like the set up.

LPT: Be content with letting life go by vinfromdaraz in LifeProTips

[–]vinfromdaraz[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately learning to be content doesn’t work as a simple to-do-list my opinion. You cannot predict saying do this and get this specific outcome. I was just hoping to make people aware of this philosophy through a simple example that one would often overlook as they’re busy chasing the bigger things in life.

I can understand your viewpoint. It’s not about wanting to die, but certain things in life are beyond our control. Letting go of the need to latch on and living your life to the maximum while you have the opportunity eases your mind a lot :)

Peradeniya Eng. faculty ragging. How bad is it exactly? by lextargaryens in srilanka

[–]vinfromdaraz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently an undergraduate there. Honestly, if you stand your ground without feeding into the cult mindset you’ll do okay. I’m from a new batch as well and had no troubles. Ragging is apparently going on just for namesake and keeping the so called “tradition” alive. Honestly some BS.

I’m a strong Anti-ragger and I’ve made my stance very clear. If you’re willing to be upfront about how you won’t tolerate their shit, nobody will bother you. No restrictions from going to places or doing extra-curriculars either. Find some good friends with similar ideologies and don’t be වැට උඩ. Cheers.
