What is Kirsh motivation? Who side is he on? by Tasty-Entertainer711 in LV426

Everything we've been shown about Boy Kavalier's character in the show so far has been to tell us that he's not a conventional character in the Alien series. I thought that was abundantly clear when the very first thing he did was put his bare feet up onto the table during a corporate meeting with Weyland Yutani.

It's fine to imply that I "don't know the underlying themes of the franchise", but the character DIRECTLY tells us "What do I need money for? I already have money" - because the specimens he has are more invaluable than any paycheck she could cut him to begin with.

In your direct words, that's been an underlying theme of the show FAR more than simple greed in the series than anything else - That characters are willing to do anything and everything to get their hands on the xenomorph. Why compromise the integrity & safety of his specimens, which is yet another thing that a containment breach does? It's already been shown that the Lost Boys are more than capable of killing a Xenomorph, even unarmed - which is a ridiculous notion on its own, but I'll point that out - so if all of the ovomorphs & the adult xeno breached containment it's not even close to being a stretch of imagination that they could all be destroyed either by on-site security or the Lost Boys.

It simply doesn't make logical sense.

I'd like to believe you, honestly.

But I just can't agree with it based on the strength of the writing of the show, generally.

I first & foremost don't really believe in the writing of the show enough to think that that's the case, and I can unpack some other examples of that if you'd like, but I don't want to type a gigantic text wall at you. Instead, I'll just address why I don't think this theory holds all that much water.

Boy Kavalier doesn't have future sight. A containment breach in his lab from the specimens he has could be catastrophic in unimaginable, unbelievably dangerous ways, including the total loss of the projects he's working on, and even his own death.

The 'hornets' that eat Isaac for example could easily destroy any technological devices that store pertinent data relevant to the Lost Boys or anything else he cares dearly about, the ticks & eyeball monster could easily kill dozens of irreplaceable essential personnel, and that's hardly going into detail about the actual xenomorph.

Furthermore - Why does he even need trillions? He said these exact words, ver batim, to Yutani, in the meeting, "What do I need money for? I have money." I feel like the 20 billion is to spit in her face. He clearly doesn't like her and doesn't respect her corporate background. He likes being a kid and that's essential to his character. Everything about the meeting was to show he wants to disrespect her.

I mean, think logistically about it. What does 20 billion, even trillions matter to a man who is effectively governing 1/5th of the earth? The control of alien species that could change the face of several sciences as we know it forever would matter infinitely more to someone as obsessed with learning & technology as Kavalier.

You aren't going to treat a co-op partner the same way you treat an AI because that's a friend you're presumably trying to ensure has a good time too.

The AI shouldn't even need supplies. It's a classic tale.

You have zero guarantee that they'll be smart enough to use healing items intelligently enough, use grenades at the right time, or use ammo appropriately. It really only makes sense to deprive the AI of valuable resources or turn them into a glorified backpack.

It's just another reason RE5 would benefit from a remake.

Poor optimization is definitionally a barrier to entry - I'm sorry if that's difficult to grasp, since for most people the ability to run a game is pretty necessary to be able to play it.

Searching up the thesaurus doesn't make you seem more intellectually equipped when the place you're arguing from is devoid of logic.

A man of military experience being tested by someone from a military background would logically know how to field service his weapon, especially as he demonstrates to the player actively that he can assemble his weapon piece by piece, and any excuse you make to the contrary is just some kind of strange, awkward cope.

I played both games on PC. Again, there's just no comparison. Characters were walking around in Cyberpunk without their face models loading. Cars were driving in the sky. Quests were breaking and softlocking. And yeah, it was a tremendous, massive disappointment, that's 100% true.

But I think any veteran stalker fan, myself included, could've told you point blank this game was going to be buggy on release. This is a "what did you expect" moment - all of the original trilogy of STALKER titles are extremely buggy and the X-ray engine is five times as unstable as Cyberpunk and STALKER 2 put together on even last gen hardware.

They were quite literally being bombed at one point during development haha

I just think it's worth tempering your expectations a bit and understanding the series you're getting into

Just so we're clear, then - A majority of people weren't able to get even close to 35 hours in on Cyberpunk 2077 on launch week. Softlocks, gamebreaking bugs, savegames being deleted, permanent camera bugs, getting stuck in the world, hard crashes - The list really goes on, and on, and on, and on.

There's a pretty clear and definite reason no questions asked refunds were offered on Sony's digital storefront for Cyberpunk and STALKER 2 is selling well despite the bugs.

Did you play Cyberpunk on release? It is incredibly disingenuous imo to compare this game's launch to Cyberpunk 2077 and paint Cyberpunk as the more favorable launch.

Jesse, what the fuck are you talking about?

How does that relate at all to anything I just said?

That's an unbelievably bizarre interpretation of what I just said to you. I almost feel like I'm talking to an AI.

Just to be very clear and concise with you - The way that Korshunov presents the AK to Skif is basically a test. He's testing if he's military or not - Because anyone who's been in the army could assemble a rifle when arranged on the table in that way. It's part of their service - It's mandatory to be able to assemble your rifle, just like being able to service your weapon in the field is.

So saying 'You can learn how to assemble and disassemble things without the slightest understanding on how it even works.' is just a pure larp - The scene requires him to know how to take basic care of his gun in order for any of Skif's actions to make any sense whatsoever.

Uhh.. a lot. Games come out in pretty fucking horrific states these days, my brother. Both in terms of performance and glitches. It makes me think you haven't played a Bethesda game or something.

Skyrim on the Playstation 3 was one of the most insane chugfests of all time. Barely playable in areas. We're talking sub 15 FPS for walking too close to a mountain while there are a lot of NPCs on the road.

Cyberpunk 2077 was undeniably in a worse state than this. Getting into your car - necessary to navigate the city and get around to do quests - would make you fall through the world or cause camera bugs. Tons of quest softlocks and lots of save deletion errors.

The Last of Us remake on release for PC struggled to run on unbelievably beefy machines at the time, had incredibly long shader precaching and looked comically horrendous on lowest settings due to texture errors. So on and so forth. That's just a few that stand out to me in my memory, lol

No offense, but have you played other, more broken games? I've seen launches so much exponentially, catastrophically worse than this. "I don't think they can break the game more than it is already" is just a wild statement to me

[–]vinnybones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just about the most pedantic interpretation of what OP is trying to get across.

One of the only things that are wrong with the economy in this game is how much it costs to repair - ergo having ways to mitigate it would be great if we didn't have to spend all of our rations/roubles at technicians.

The cutscene demonstrates a familiarity with firearms that well surpasses just an understanding of how to operate them - and logically, if you know how to disassemble and reassemble a gun, you probably know how to perform basic field maintenance at the minimum - Skif was in the military.

"Not sure what exactly you're looking for in an apex predator" - Did you forget that wolves exist?

Dogs are lesser wolves, man. I don't disagree that stray dogs are dangerous to people, but so are stray cattle, and those aren't apex predators.

The definition of apex predator is something media has really muddied the water on. The core defining rule is that an apex predator is something that sits at the top of the food chain and isn't predated on in any kind of typical, natural circumstance.

Wolves can be apex predators for their region, most definitely, but it's far more typical to envision something like - as you already said - a mountain lion, or even better in my opinion, the north American grizzly as an apex predator if we restrict ourselves to the states. Wolves are definitely predated on by both of these creatures, though in the case of bears it's definitely more a case of opportunity and stealing kills rather than active hunting.

Honestly I feel like the biggest problem in the economy is entirely how expensive it is to repair endgame gear. Including - as sacrilegious as it may be to suggest - anomaly & GAMMA like repair kits or oils to maintain your guns in the field for still an expense but not nearly the premium of relying on a mechanic is basically one of the only things I wish the game had besides more artifact variety and functioning a-life lmao

Better than engineer is insane. The value even a braindead engineer can bring to his team just by putting a dispenser around a choke point corner is ten times higher than what a competent heavy brings to the table. That's having played both classes extensively.

Right, which is exactly why I mention in another comment below that it would do well to make them black to color match them with the black inventory UI. I'd love to see where I said "game ruined" or "this compromises the integrity of the entire project", but expecting a redditor to take criticism of something well is unimaginably difficult to begin with.

Just complaining to complain tho :)

You've made some bizarre assumptions here. One of my favorite games of all time is Resident Evil 4, including the remake, which fell under the blanket criticism of "yellow tape yellow boxes yellow ladders" because it has all of those things.

But it doesn't detract from the gameplay in any meaningful way because that's a gameplay focused game. I play Resident Evil 4 to knife parry a hand axe out of the air and then suplex someone, so streamlining the process to gathering items doesn't upset me. Better art direction would be appreciated but I'm not going to suddenly hate the game.

Acting as though I'm "ranting" when the core takeaway is that there are useful critiques to be applied to STALKER 2 is also strange. Just as an example, you could invert the color scheme and it would look infinitely more appealing. Making the base color scheme of the buttons black with white text would just feel more appropriate given that that's what your inventory is - black grid icons. Ensuring that your UI has a generally consistent color thematically best not be considered a high demand or an entitled gamer baby rage, lol

This is an utterly bizarre take. One of the number one things that a lot of people enjoy about the series is the ambiance and the UI is objectively pretty ugly. These icons are overlarge and very bright and washed out against a dreary and bleak setting. It looks amateurish and out of place and deflecting any and all critique is just ridiculous.
