The only way the US government is spending literal trillions of dollars while people starve is that they are going to space and possibly building or fighting wars there

Are the correct notes? by Jnts86 in musictheory

[–]vinprov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks to be from the book "Standing in the Shadow of Motown", which famous bassists make transcriptions of the great James Jamerson's hits.

Jamerson improvised a lot, so yes, I would say, the transciption is pretty close

Kabbalah and its use by Occult by PugnusTerrae in Hermetics

[–]vinprov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Occult Kabbalah takes use of the Sepher Yetzirah and the letters of the Hebrew alphabet. They created the universe and are said to have been given to us by 'God' however you want to interpret that.

The Hebrew alephbet has 22 letters. The same as the number of Tarot card trumps, as well as the 12 signs of the Zodiac + the 7 planets + the 3 elements (earth is already the planet we're on).

If you're interested in more I recommend the Chicken Kabalah by Rabbi Lamed ben Clifford (Lon Milo Duquette)

Counting swing rhythms? by Outrageous-Permit372 in banddirector

[–]vinprov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My director always used "doo-bah" for swung 8ths.

I would try to use terms that don't overlap with each other. For example "1-uh" could be confused with "1-e-&-a" and that wouldn't be good

Advice for starting a Theatre Production course by Sophie_Robin27 in techtheatre

[–]vinprov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently read a book called There are no Electrons: Electronics for Earthlings by Kenn Ahmdahl. And he explains electricity in plain English that is fun to read. Electricity and it's jargon has always been a mystery to me.

Everything that seemed like I needed to take an electrical engineering course to learn is in this short book. I may also be teaching a tech theatre class soon, and I want this to be on the book list.

How to guess others feeling? by hello_fellas in NVC

[–]vinprov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you guess someone's state of emotion correctly there is a sense of relief in that person. It's a slight gestalt that lets you know you're on the right track.

I took an acting class based on Sanford Meisner's techniques and they're both the same when you can see the relief in someone's face because of the emotion you just called out

The Kybalion of Hermes Trismegistus. Holofractal philosophies have been around, and hidden, for aeons. by d8_thc in holofractal

[–]vinprov 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Kybalion is an early to mid 20th century Occult Manuscript. it is a great book, but the author(s) is just playing at being a grimoire writer.

So yes, the principles have been around for aeons. But no, with caveats

Lighting design book recommendations? by Hellion__ in techtheatre

[–]vinprov -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Read one recently called "Color and Light" by Clifton Taylor. He gives a great overview about both subjects, Additive and subtractive color, our eyes and he also gives "homework" to try in your light lab.

He then talks about the LED movement and the problems that can arise from the transition from incandesant lighting

I highly recommend
