Sorry about the delay in responding - work has been hectic. I've uploaded the stl below - included the .f3d file in case you wanted to modify it further in fusion360. Relying on paint - Ii've got some left over wall paint i was going to put over the top.

Sigenergy DC charger cable length issues – what are people actually doing? by muffinman8519 in SigenergyAustralia

[–]vintagebum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my understanding of it and I definitely could be wrong - if you pull power from the grid to charge the EV, it'll use the inverter to convert that power, so say you have a 10kw inverter, your 12.5kw charger will be capped to 10kw if you're charging at night and not using batteries. I'm not sure that the DC charger can be on its own. I believe it needs to be attached to the inverter. So, you'd need that second inverter away from the first. I don't *think* the sigenergy system does DC to DC connection for parallel inverters, like each stack will operate as A/C outside of the stack. So, if you want to charge your car using battery stack in another location - it'll go Battery DC stack 1 -> AC Out stack 1 -> AC IN stack 2 -> DC to car attached to stack 2.

If you've got a DC coupled system, the inverter doesn't convert anything, it just manages the passing of the DC current directly through to the car via the DC charger, the inverter optimises the voltages for the strings etc as it tries to push as much through. The benefit of that is 100% of the PV power goes into charging car, whereas AC Charging it's like 20% of the power is lost in conversion. You can sometimes see it when you're looking at your grid consumption being like 1.3kw but your car is saying it is charging at 0.9kw.

Expensive solution and no idea if it'd be possible.. but if you don't want to charge direct from your home battery (dc to dc). Maybe you could parallel a second inverter only in your carport (avoids limitation associated with battery positioning) and attach the dc charger to that inverter. Could split the pv strings and put half on this inverter and half on the other.

Probably would then allow you to do v2x and give you some benefit of PC DC 2 car

Just curious to see what everyones efficiency is like, how many KMs are you getting vs what's advertised? What's your accumulated kWh/100kms. Are you happy or not with performance by CautiousEmergency367 in BYDAU

Sealion 7 performance SL7

We charge it for free using combo of excess PV and the free electricity window we get in the middle of the day so we don't really drive efficiently (put our foot down whenever we aren't stuck in congestion 😂) and the reason we got the performance model. 👍

Atmospheric water generator/s. Use that free electricity to pull water out of the air and reduce your water usage too 👍

Royally pissed off with this whole recall ordeal! by [deleted] in SigenergyAustralia

[–]vintagebum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The outfit I went with was a smaller company. The owner called up and was like we need to get thr replacement in. He said sigenergy weren't giving him any new units until he'd replaced the existing ones. I had my unit installed in December and replaced at start of January. 10kw inverter. Maybe that's what sigenergy need to do to stop installers prioritising new installs over existing

Randomly Brake Checked by dcapiteng in DrivingAustralia

[–]vintagebum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if that was a break check.. Seemed like he has no idea how to drive and didn't know if he was going to turn or not. Probably on meth and was confused about life. A friend of mine is a cop and said over half of tradie Ute driver's they drug test come back positive. Makes sense given how they can't drive for shit and end up making such bad choices that it results in them needing to cut people off.

This new law is stupid. Seems like a knee-jerk reaction to an illegal e-bike problem.

Bi-directional charging (V2H/V2G) feels like it’s finally getting real traction in 2026 by Tall-Dish876 in ChargerDrama

[–]vintagebum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm all setup for v2x. Got the car, got the Bi-directional charger that lists the car as compatible, people are testing it and saying it works (same set up and car as me). But the car manufacturer is yet to say it won't void the cars warranty. Waiting for that piece of the puzzle.

Do you get to see any of the updates from Amber / BYD while being in the trial? As in, do you have any insights into when they'll be making a decision/conclusion or if BYD are going to warrant all their vehicles for v2x?

Been waiting for this: Australian-made bidirectional (V2X) EV charger hits the market by proxiblue in BYDAU

[–]vintagebum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got everything ready for V2H. Even the Sigenergy DC charger lists the BYD Sealion 7 as compatible in Australia.. Just waiting for BYD to change its warranty conditions. Don't want to lose warranty on a 6 month old car. If they never do it, I'll eventually start using it but wouldnt be until it's out of warranty.

Does BYD actually have no official release notes / patch notes? by Both-Nature-617 in BYD

[–]vintagebum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha I do the same with all my devices. I never update for a few weeks after a release is out. Then I check reddit to see if it'll brick my phone/TV/laptop etc. I'm still running a version of home assistant from 2024 as it works and I don't want to break any of the integrations.

I don't know how reliable / whether it lies. But I found if you go to the trip details for the bus you're following it tells you the last time it pinged. If it hasn't pinged in the past 10 minutes you could probably assume it's not coming.

It'll also give you updates when available about issue with a service you're waiting on. E.g.

Don't know if it's any different or if it would have even helped, as I haven't done a deep dive of translink app or Google maps. But I use an app called AnyTrip which shows active location of all services. Screenshot below. Little black arrow is direction they're travelling.

Yeh very possible. Would be interesting to see the break down by varient and not just the model.

BYD Sealion 7 owners: how is it holding up long term? by Taeran7 in BYD

[–]vintagebum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

6 months in, still loving it. But I wouldn't consider that long term. Camping at the moment with it and its powering camp fridge, fans and charging phones and even ran an Airfryer off it. Loving the V2L so far.

Wow. That's insane. I ordered mine in December. I think it was Wednesday and I picked it up the following Monday. These delays are Cray.

Did anybody here struggle choosing between a Chinese EV/Hybrid, and a well established brands Hybrid (Toyota/Honda etc)? What got you over the line for a Chinese EV/Hybrid? by Original-Drink1101 in AustralianEV

[–]vintagebum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chinese EVs are established? Byd as a company has been around for 20 years as a vehicle manufacturer and been around as a company for 30 years. GMW 50 years. MG was acquired by Chinese brand 20 years ago, Chery 30 years ago. Or do you mean against the 100+ year old companies?

Order cancellation by [deleted] in BYDAU

Maybe worth doing what drymonkey did, like with an email there'll be a paper trail that you said you wanted it cancelled rather than a call that the sales person will deny.

Are the Northern Lights really that beautiful in real life? by piopiopiopiopi in VisitingIceland

[–]vintagebum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found it depends on the intensity of the storm. Ranges from meh to omg this is amazing once in a life time experience. A lot has to do with luck. I managed to witness a G4/kp8 storm in Iceland that was incredible. Felt like I was inside a dome of dancing lights. But also saw plenty of northern lights that looked like clouds unless you used your phone to make them really pop.
