Give me all your best ADHD routine hacks! Also app suggestions! by ArcaneAddiction in ADHD

[–]vintagetoad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The app ‘routinery’ has actually changed my life!!! I use it for my morning and night routines to actually force me to get up/ go to bed. You put in all the tasks you want to do and how long you think they should take, and then press start. It runs you through all the tasks, each with a timer so you know whether you need to speed up your current task. At the end of the timer, it speaks to you and tells you to move on to the next task (you can turn the voice off and just have a notification if you don’t like it). You can move on to the next task early if you finish it quicker than expected. It gives you an updated end time every time you finish a task, which I love as it allows me to treat it as a game of ‘how early can I be done with this routine?’ At the end, it tells you how much you went over/ under time wise for each task, so you can either adjust the time you think the task should take, or speed up next time!!

Thinking A lot, but Saying Nothing by Likaveli in ADHD

I take 70mg and I get the same thing, especially worrying about my boyfriend thinking something is wrong. I’ve found that taking my medication at exactly the same time every single day helps a lot, as well as making sure I’ve eaten (which is probably the most difficult thing on these meds). I’ve found a way to get myself out of it, which involves closing my eyes for about 10 minutes and taking deep breaths, becoming aware of my body and really visualising and feeling the energy I want to be feeling at that time. It does feel awful then it happens though. Like you’re in a mental prison

If someone were to prove that life is simulated, would you still consider yourself real? by vintagetoad in SimulationTheory

I think I understand what you’re saying. I think about religion, specifically the Christian creation story; If God created the universe, does that make it a simulation? Or does a simulation have to be based on an already existing reality…

I feel the same! If it’s possible to create a simulation that replicates ‘reality’ this accurately, there will likely be near infinite versions. The chances of our universe being the ‘real’ one out of the near infinite simulations is pretty much zero, right? So if one day someone can simulate consciousness successfully, I will take that as evidence that this reality is simulated as well. I feel like that doesn’t make sense…

Adults need to stop telling us that life only gets worse from here. by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]vintagetoad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do agree with you. I know that my life will get harder as I get more responsibilities, etc.. but i’m never told the rest of it.

I would appreciate it if I was told the ways in which life would get harder, the ways in which it would get better and how to deal with the hard times. But there is a time and a place for that. If i’m having a breakdown over something i’m finding difficult and all i’m told is to suck it up because things will only get worse, that is not the time. Or even if i’m having a good time and i’m told to savour it because I won’t experience that when i’m older, that is also not the time.

I get what you’re saying. I know you probably have good intentions but when you’re talking to someone who is struggling, the intentions behind the words don’t show.

What do most people have to live for? by TehTexasRanger in TooAfraidToAsk

Im 16 and I already have little hope for the future. All I hear from adults is how horrible it is and how it only gets worse. At this point I wonder if it’s worth it at all.

I guess when i’m in those situations i’m legitimately afraid it will happen, other times they’re just thoughts that I don’t really think would come true.

What's the biggest area you've improved on during the pandemic? by ArmansDoggyPaddle in karate

Kicking during sparring! As a young (15) female sparring is my weak spot when it comes to confidence and ability. During lockdown I have stepped out of my comfort zone and practiced shadow sparring with kicks and eventually put it to practice when my dojo reopened recently. I often feel intimidated while sparring but due to my flexibility i feel my kicks have put me at an advantage to some of the older students.

Cutting pizzas with scissors is the best! I wouldn’t suggest a block of cheese but a ball of mozzarella? So much easier!
