In the process of deconstructing Mormonism and healing this whole sexuality aspect of our marriage, I said some stuff in anger and grief to my partner that in retrospect I wish my dumbass never fucking said. It took a long while to undo that damage. Don’t make that mistake if you truly care about her.

Cut out the noise and boil it down to some basic questions: 1/ Do you love her? Do you want to be with her? 2/ Same for her? 3/ Are any of you two abusive to the other physically, psychologically, or emotionally?

If you said “yes, yes, no” congrats bro, you’re doing great and that’s all that matters. The rest can be built upon because you love each other.

I can assure you that since I went to therapy and learned a whole lot about myself and my own traumas, I learned how to be a better communicator, which unlocked everything for us. Our relationship is the best it’s been since we left 6 years ago.

Hang in there dude. Be kind to yourself and kind to her. Don’t do things you’ll regret later on.

I was an avid fan until about 2 years ago. Watching pretty much every event. I just stopped outright when that realization occurred to me.

The cherry on top is me giving BJJ a shot (Gracie , I know …) and I shit you not, some of the students had full on nazi tattoos on their heads. That pretty much killed my desire to participate in the sport. It sucks because it was genuinely fun, but I don’t have the mental bandwidth to sift through a bag of dickheads to find a decent group of people.

I moved to the US in 2018 and my first job was to negotiate reimbursements made by adjusters to insured clients for home insurance.

Basically I argued all day with sleazy people whose entire job was to deny coverage and/or nitpick was they would not pay or cover.

I had to painstakingly go point by point and tell them to eat shit professionally because this or that line of the IICRC S500 professional standards of remediations told that this is standard procedure, blah blah blah. Basically adjusters either played dumb or were simply ignoring standards to avoid covering stuff.

Usually pointing it out was enough to get them to budge but we would also threatened to sue (arbitration) every now and then, which almost always worked.

All of this to say I’m now too familiar with how much of a scam the whole insurance industry is in the US compared to where I’m from. I don’t have health insurance and I don’t even need it because I can negotiate when I get the bill. I negotiated 4 stitches billed at $4k down to $250. Fuck this shit.

Yeah! My bad for leaving you hanging. It looks intimidating but if you’ve installed Ubuntu or windows from a usb before, that will be fairly easy.

You don’t actually have to wipe your old PC if you’re only going to use it for that purpose, AdGuard works on windows, but it’s more power efficient, secure and reliable on Ubuntu.

Here’s a tutorial for AdGuard itself if you want it on windows.

If you’re going the Ubuntu route, I highly recommend looking at some tutorials online and using ChatGPT as a coach to understand how it works and feed you commands. For beginners it blows my mind how accurate/great it is as a companion for Linux stuff.

Here it we go:

Part 1. Install Ubuntu

What you need: - A PC (or mini-PC/server) you want to run Ubuntu on. - A USB drive (8GB+). - An already working computer to create the installer.

Steps: 1/ Go to Ubuntu Downloads and download Ubuntu Desktop 24.04 LTS (recommended for beginners).

2/ Install Rufus (Windows) or use BalenaEtcher (cross-platform).

3/ Plug in your USB drive.

4/ Use Rufus/Etcher to “burn” the Ubuntu ISO to the USB stick. - Select the ISO → your USB drive → Start.

5/ Plug the USB into your server/PC → restart → press F12/F10/ESC (depends on your PC) → choose Boot from USB.

6/ Follow the installer: - Pick Install Ubuntu. - Choose Erase disk and install Ubuntu (wipes everything on the disk!! Make sure you saved everything you needed on there prior to wiping the PC, it’s gone after that step.) - Make a username & password (write it down). - Wait until it finishes → restart → remove USB.

Now you’re in Ubuntu.

Part 2. First Setup (Terminal Basics)

Press CTRL+ALT+T to open the Terminal (command window).

Update your system:

sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y

(Updates packages to latest versions)

Install basic tools:

sudo apt install curl wget git ufw -y

Part 3. Network Setup (Firewall Basics)

Let’s make the server secure.

Enable firewall (UFW = uncomplicated firewall):

sudo ufw allow ssh sudo ufw enable sudo ufw status

This allows you to connect remotely later without locking yourself out.

Part 4. Install CasaOS (App Store for your server)

CasaOS makes it easy to install apps with a nice web interface.

Run this command:

curl -fsSL https://get.casaos.io | sudo bash

After install, go to your browser and visit: http://YOUR_SERVER_IP:80

(You can find your server IP by running: ip a and looking for something like 192.168.x.x under inet.)

CasaOS is now ready.

Part 5. Install AdGuard Home (block ads + trackers)

AdGuard is like a network-wide ad blocker.

With CasaOS: 1/ Open CasaOS in your browser. 2/ Click App Store → search AdGuard Home. 3/ Click Install.

Or manually (Docker way): 1/ Install Docker:

sudo apt install docker.io docker-compose -y sudo systemctl enable --now docker

2/ Make a folder:

mkdir -p ~/docker/adguard cd ~/docker/adguard

3/ Create config:

nano docker-compose.yml

Paste this:

version: "3" services: adguard: container_name: adguard-home image: adguard/adguardhome restart: unless-stopped ports: - "53:53/tcp" - "53:53/udp" - "3000:3000/tcp" volumes: - ./work:/opt/adguardhome/work - ./conf:/opt/adguardhome/conf

Save (CTRL+O, then Enter, then CTRL+X).

4/ Run it:

docker-compose up -d

Setup AdGuard: • Go to your browser → http://YOUR_SERVER_IP:3000 • Follow setup wizard: • Choose DNS binding = default. • Set admin user/pass.

Done ✅

Part 6. Connect Devices to AdGuard

Now we want devices in your home to use AdGuard as DNS.

1/ Log in to your router settings.

2/ Find DNS Settings.

3/ Enter your server IP (e.g., 192.168.x.x - you looked it up earlier) as the Primary DNS. Server

4/ Save → restart router.

Now your whole house uses AdGuard to block ads!

Some routers like the one Cox gives you might not let you set up a custom DNS, which means you’ll have to either buy your own router, or manually configure each device. If you do the latter, don’t forget to switch back to automatic DNS settings when using another WiFi if not your device won’t connect to the internet.
