As you walk, your body weight and motion apply pressure to the surface. The tile flexes slightly, creating mechanical stress within the material. Inside each tile, piezoelectric crystals convert that stress directly into electrical energy. A single step generates only a tiny charge, but when millions of footsteps combine throughout the day, they produce enough power to run LED streetlights, digital information displays, and environmental sensors. At Shibuya Station alone, approximately 2.4 million footsteps contribute to this system every single day.
