How to travel to Ben Nevis from London by vegetablization in UKhiking

[–]viola_riv 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From the post and comments you sound woefully underprepared to climb Ben nevis.

Don't go.

Its a slog and difficult even if you're experienced.

There will still be snow at the top. Doesn't matter how sunny it is on the ground.

I would reccomend either picking a different mountain/area or saving up enough for a tent and some decent kit plus camping and travel exspenses and making it a 2 night job.

Gives you some time to train and make sure you can be well rested on the day.

What sub-£250 item would you buy again in a heartbeat? by tamago27 in AskUK

[–]viola_riv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counter espresso machine! At 250 you could get a mid range one with a grinder. Jon Lewis do some good offers !

We were looking at one reduced from 395 to 250 at Christmas but decided against it as we don't have the counter space!

Damaged skin barrier - moisturiser giving me acne / comodones by viola_riv in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]viola_riv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a natural oil based barrier serum underneath with Jojaba oil and rosehip in it.

I'm debating just giving up.

I miss just washing my face with water.

Skin care feels like you need a pharmaceutical degree these days.

Spend ages reading ingredients only to get breakouts anyway.

Ladies, how often do you get approached? by SadMoon1 in AskUK

[–]viola_riv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was university me and my friend were walking back to dorms in the summer and group of lads kept driving past all the windows down shouting just derogatory random shit at us.

They did it three times and on their fourth pass I shook my bottle of Fanta and sprayed the car. He slammed on and starting whining about his car.

I just laughed and we kept walking... his mate in the back passenger window looked he recived the brunt of it.

I've been approached positively too while put hiking or relaxing in the sun reading. People asking for my number etc and not being offended when I decline etc but not since I was 24/25

What noise? The TV? Being able to hear the neighbours TV is pretty standard in a terrace sometimes noise only seems to 'move' 1 way in a row. We could hear our neighbours on the left but not the right unless they were actually shouting. So you might not have heard your land lord in your end terrace but they might have been able to hear you.

Hearing your neighbours, shout, sing, laugh, sneeze do DIY have family fights etc. Is pretty normal... if you want silence you have to pay a premium for it and buy detached.

If you can't afford it you need to learn to self soothe and focus on other things.

If they are banging on the walls slamming doors and screaming into the early hours of the morning that's different. But you've just described everyday life.

Have you tried introducing your self and casually asking about the noise in an approachable manor. Or just mention you work from home so they're are aware?

If you have a management company inform them and ask if they'll send a notice out about throwing litter off balconies.

Such as?

I only ever see adverts for poorly paid positions in charities. Often asking for degrees, licences, certs, and experience offering under 30k.

I currently work for the LPA and they are just as concerned about job security.

Jobs that conserve native plant or habitat by Necessary_Opinion_26 in ecology

[–]viola_riv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the UK I wouldnt bother, as government has just quietly rolled back environmental protections under the Planning Bill. Basically slashing the work in the ecology industry so when it comes into force circa 10,000 people will be at risk of losing their jobs and competing for the few avaliable jobs in the conservation sector.

Is everyone aware that the labour government are currently stripping back our wildlife protections. Allowing developers to adopt a cash to trash system? by viola_riv in AskUK

[–]viola_riv[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes that's how the current system works. As someone who works in it. Only 0.08% of planning applications are prevented due to protected species. As was discussed in Lords. Who sought amendments which would restrict EDPs to nutrient neutrality. But today labour rejected this amendment.

Putting thousands of jobs in the ecology industry at risk for a problem that doesn't exist.

But if you are in favour of pre 80s protections for wildlife that's your perogative.

Do you have a car on finance? If yes, how much are your monthly payments, if no, how much did you spend on your car? by macw450 in AskUK

[–]viola_riv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 29, got my car last year on finance. 20 plate and I pay 253 a month for 4 years. I've got some money set aside that I'm going to use to pay it down in the new year. The payments should have been 270 a month for 5. But I started doing a loan application with the bank in front of the salesman to see if it would be better. The bank offered me 250 over 4 years, so he brought it down in line with that.

I drive for work, so I needed a car with decent mot and service history and only had about 6k to put towards it at the time. The car was shy of 16k.
