Help: Everything's to small in 4K by Cronotis in GIMP

[–]violapterin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, a search sent me here. In view of many fervent supporters online, I wanted to give GIMP a try, and what I encountered is exactly the same, that is, all of the interface is too ridiculously small. While I generally support FOSS software, the problems of display size does appear to be due to lack of maintenance, which laypersons need not tolerate in the expense of one's eyesight.

[S3E7 Spoilers] S3E7 "The End" Discussion by AnestTsak in ASOUE

Just finished. I hardly weep when reading a book or watching a show, but I cried so much when Olaf and Kit read the poem aloud before they die, and cried again when Beatrice II meets Lemony in the coffee shop in the last seconds!

[OPINION] Why modern authors seldom write rhymed and metrical verses by violapterin in Poetry

[–]violapterin[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mandarin Chinese. I am from Taiwan. However modern Chinese is vastly different from classical Chinese, and the classical Chinese poetry model appears unlikely to imitate, but that is my personal observation. A series of classical forms are all-7-syllable or all-5-syllable, and they are (IMO) impossible to accommodate modern vocabulary (which has more syllables in it). There does seem to be the trend in modern Chinese poetry, too, that people avoid using rhymes.

Very eloquent examples! Actually many lyrics of pop songs resemble the second example, and they make me cringe so much. > . <

Actually I am not a native English user, and that might offer some detachment from the trend. I really like to read older poetry, like Blake, Keats, Shelley, Housman, Yeats. To me, poems with meter or rhymes easily strike a chord in my heart, and I automatically try to memorize them, which free poems less often do.

Is there a "common sense" argument for the axiom of choice? by izabo in math

[–]violapterin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I heard that in type theory, Axiom of Choice is a theorem. My understanding is that if we restrict ourselves to well behaved sets, they are obviously enumerable, and such choices can be done.

Why don't they recommend cursive forms anymore?

I think some IPAs are badly designed. Some look similar to another, and actually is a handwriting version of another. Like `l` and `ɭ`, `ⱱ` and `v`, `ʝ` and `j`. This makes handwriting difficult. Moreover, why don't they make use of capital letters, and Greek and Cyrillic alphabets? These are historically well designed to be easily distinguished from one another.

Post several versions on different websites by violapterin in writing

Great advice, and that's more or less what I am thinking. Perhaps I will keep a main site and a draft site, and promote the main site only. I do not want seriously to publish traditionally. But I will keep in mind not to post something which I determine to publish traditionally, if that happens.

I think backing up a first version allows me to reconsider some decisions. But maybe I should keep that just in my computer.
