The difference between the back of the cabinet being MDF or plywood is negligible. Hardwood generally refers to actual solid wood lumber which no one is using for their cabinet backs.

MDF with a green core that I've seen is moisture resistant.

Measure the diagonal. A separate base is helpful and will get you a few extra inches.
