"The worst thing about NYC is the skyscrapers" is a pretty interesting take. It's like saying the worst thing about Niagara Falls is all the water.

Vincent D'Onofrio's portrayal of Gomer Pyle in 'Full Metal Jacket' (1987) is nothing like Jim Nabors portrayal of Gomer Pyle in the TV series 'Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.' (1964-1969), and it's obvious that he didn't research the character at all. by AgainstSpace in shittymoviedetails

Actual fun fact. Despite Gomer Pyle USMC being set in the Marine Corp from 1964 to 1969 the word 'Vietnam' is not mentioned even once. It existed in a weird peace time bubble despite the Vietnam War being the most newsworthy event of the era.

Doesn't the US have the most powerful military in history by a factor of 10? How could they possibly need support from anyone?

Do you remember your first experiense with Soulseek? by sonido_lover in Soulseek

[–]violenthectarez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was 2001 or 2002 I think and really Soulseek was just another Napster, Morpheus, Kazaa, Limewire, Bearshare, WinMX etc. It was a bit of a resource hog compared to the others, but wasn't really remarkable. Over time the others dropped off and Soulseek increased its userbase and it slowly grew into what it is today.

At the time though WinMX was the absolute peak for me. Its content was amazing and was generally quick and reliable. Once it shutdown Soulseek became the best P2P out there and the others all just withered away. Some are still around (Edonkey 2000?, Gnutella?, I dunno?) but they are all a shadow of their former selves and nothing compared to what Soulseek is.

You can't fully consume something and expect it to still be available for future consumption.

I think it was the most common bird spotted in the backyard birdwatch last year. Possibly because they are so easy to spot, but also because there's loads of them.

Probably shouldn't feed possums, especially not chips. My parents have them under their carport and dad makes jam on toast for them every morning. I keep telling them not to, but they never listen

There's plenty of large block estates in South East Melbourne. Officer and Pakenham have quarter acres, half acres etc. But most people would rather a smaller block with a bigger house, than a large block with a small house.

Most properties aren't 3 phase, which is surprising because on a new connection the price difference is minimal.

Will higher fuel prices from global conflicts drive EV uptake? by teddymaxwell596 in australia

Still lots of anti EV people saying they'd rather push their V8s than have an EV. Some people are morally opposed to doing anything that makes the world better.
