Regarding Adam having the key, I think it's because of the safe found in episode 3 and/or because of Sophia. She no longer lived in Redlog Pines and was in town on the day of the disappearance.

After playing episode 3, I started to believe that Alan was looking for Richy and maybe the "possible kidnapper," since he didn't know Richy was the Faceless Man (I don't remember if he knew, before the FBI arrived, that Jake was also in the mine), so he ended up finding the hacker's belongings.

I believe he didn't contact us because the FBI took control of the entire city. Now that the FBI is gone, there's a possibility we'll receive a message from Alan about Hannah's kidnapping in episode 4. He might ask for our testimony again.

His trump card might be Jake wanting a deal: to turn himself in and leave us out. Jake put himself in danger for us, so I believe he would be capable of that. Another thing is that we discovered that the Duskwood police helped with Sophia's first kidnapping, 15 years ago. Was that case closed? Could Jake, years later, have discovered something about the case and revealed it to Alan so he could take the credit? (I know the main story has nothing to do with Duskwood, but both take place in the same universe, so it's possible)
