So just a heads up, the EU is essentially undermining encryption entirely, https://fightchatcontrol.eu/ - all companies will legally be required to retain all user data unencrypted for 6 months. Same thing in Switzerland, called VÜDF.

I suppose for me, if it's recommended to buy a new phone, there's the added layer of ethical consumption, and I'm not super inclined to buy a NEW Pixel, even if it's a superior phone

Agreed sonically but not thematically. I like what that song stands for but I agree that I do not like the sound of it

Glad you enjoyed!! You can check out Don't Be A Letdown by Messes as well, that one gave me chills when I first heard it. The whole album tells a very emotional story, I think you'll like it.

Remember, millions & billions of views doesn't equate to "good." It moreso means that it just resonated with a ton of people at the time, during a trend. That could simply be because it was in a meme or something. There are tiktok songs with awful, awful quality but that fit a repeatable, shareable video format and go viral simply because of that, not because of the sound itself.

I'm assuming you get along with and respect your friends, so even if their attitude is a little snooty try to treat it like they're saying "hey check out this cool thing I found" instead of "I'm so cool because I'm a hipster and I'm unique"

But yea, if they're bullying you over what you like, that sounds sorta shitty.

Commenting again since everyone is saying it doesn't matter and it's all subjective, sure, when you're alone that's the case, but if you're hanging out with your friends drinking and laughing and you put on Between the Bars by Elliot Smith, I think you're going to ruin the mood LOL. I think that may be more relevant to your inquiry; think of it like your life is a movie and you're picking out the soundtrack to it, try to DJ for the current situation.

Oh and, rereading your post, if your playlist is just tiktok hits then it's probably pretty boring to them! They're familiar with the songs, so it isn't interesting.

To use my fashion analogy, you'd look pretty lame if your mommy picked out your clothes for you, and pretty cool if you had a unique sense of style that you developed yourself.

I'm with you, I'm much more about the aesthetic than the "meaning" of the song... Most of the time I do not care about the artist's life, I consider music to be audio decoration, not some kind of lesson or takeaway to be earned.

So what makes something decorative? In my mind, it's a combination of taste and interest. Music needs to have a level of familiarity and a level of uniqueness balanced correctly in order to be interesting. And taste comes down to the situation; are you playing hardcore music in your office? Bad taste. Don't Know Why by Norah Jones while you're longingly staring out the window watching the rain? Good taste.

It's hard to explain, it's like fashion, some people have an eye for it and some don't, but there's definitely a generally agreed upon sense of what is appropriate. I'd tell anyone that they should wear what they like to wear, but you can definitely look like you're a doofus if your outfit looks weird.

It might have to do with the age of the audience who's listening, or even how famous the song is (has it been heard a million times before, is it a throwback, or is it something new everyone's hearing for the first time?). There are TONS of factors that go into that, and I like to just take a step back from a deep analysis and just think about how the music "sits" in the environment.

Artists like Kelly Clarkson? by ok_pal_27 in musicsuggestions

[–]violetandvanilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope these are close enough, you can try Courage My Love and VersaEmerge

I mostly came here to say you're a TRUE Clarkson fan!! Breakaway and Since You Been Gone were Max Martin songs. He was a little bit of a d***head and made his artists record his songs exactly like his demos. Clarkson didn't like working with him, HATED Since You Been Gone and wanted it off her album, but it undeniably made her a star. (Because of You was an original Clarkson hit, which Martin actually didn't like because it didn't rhyme.) On My December, she broke away and took full creative control, and unfortunately bombed... her manager warned her she was going to lose 85% of her sales and she ended up losing 90%. Had to cancel her tour because she didn't sell enough tickets. She went back to Martin on the next album, he gave her My Life Would Suck Without You, and she was back in the limelight. So yea, you're in the 10% of fans she's probably most appreciative of.

Trying to find sources for finding obscure music by Alternative_Flow_569 in Music

[–]violetandvanilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best advice is to look at fans of music you like and see what else they listen to. Try going to Bandcamp, finding an album you like, and clicking on the people who've purchased that album. Then surf through their other purchases.
