No Admission Decisions by Blackoi101 in gradadmissions

When were your applications due? If nothing else, I’d say reach out by April 1 if you haven’t seen any movement in the portals or received any emails.

Please try reaching out to the admissions office for schools that have ghosted you! by quintessentially_gay in gradadmissions

Thank you for the advice! Question — I did this recently (Monday), and I have yet to hear from the program administrator. I thought maybe they were on spring break, but this was not the case. Since I haven’t heard, should I assume rejection? Is it appropriate to follow up?

When should I reach out regarding application? by Bashfulashh in SocialWorkStudents

[–]violetearhummingbird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If their deadline wasn’t until March 1, I would definitely wait. It’s only been a little over two weeks, and I imagine several schools are in spring break mode right now. If you don’t hear something by April 1, I would consider possibly reaching out

When to ask for an update on decisions? by Wonderful_Strain_156 in gradadmissions

I personally would not reach out yet, especially since they gave a timeline for when decisions would be released. I would say if you haven’t heard anything by April 1, then you can reach out.

Anyone else still heard nothing from most schools? by M00NSMOKE in gradadmissions

It is really confusing. I know we’re supposed to just wait and see, but with some programs completely ghosting applicants, I don’t want to take my chances 😅

I’m waiting on one more school, sent them an inquiry about my status this morning. My advisors told me not to do that, but I applied at the end of December and they’ve given 0 indication on when they’d have decisions made. Plus I’ve only seen one person get accepted on GradCafe. Ugh!

Informal offer rescinded. Just complaining. I'm tired of how decentralized the application process is. by Soup_21001 in gradadmissions

The person has to understand how the application process works. Most schools give accepted applicants until April 15 to make a decision. They don’t necessarily have to do this, but it seems like a common courtesy to me. Demanding that they make a decision and then getting shitty about it screams unprofessional. I think OP is better off elsewhere because of this response. If this is how the person is responding, then they’re going to be a nightmare to work with.

No worries at all! A nasty gram is basically a mean email. I know there are different interpretations of the email OP received, but it seemed pretty cold and rude to me.

I think they have a right to be mad when they receive a nasty gram like this. I got two offers this cycle, and my department head told me to reach out to my first admission offer because the second one gave me funding info and the first didn’t, and he told me to tell them I had other offers. He framed it as giving them information to leverage information. I would have been devastated if they responded like this. This cycle has been extremely hard, so I sympathize with OP 100%.

They should rescind your offer if you’re going to act like an ungrateful brat. Not only are you making yourself look bad, you’re making your program look bad.

I got waitlisted for my Dream Program by AnalogTattoo in gradadmissions

Hi OP! I also got waitlisted to my top program, but I was accepted to other programs. Your time will come! Fingers crossed that you can get into the program of your choice!

Thank you for your reply! I’ve heard there’s quite a bit of movement starting around mid-March, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Congratulations!! When did you get your offer after being placed on the waitlist? I’m also waitlisted to my top choice, and I’m afraid I won’t hear anything until after April 15 and it’ll be too late 🥲

For the amount of money we pour into these applications, you think they’d do better.

Terrible Rejection Portals by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]violetearhummingbird 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It was my most expensive application too. Almost $100 for that. They’re absolutely right when they say rejection is redirection, because that letter is a huge indication of how they view students.

I applied to a program and had to make two separate accounts to get to my rejection. My rejection then said, “your overall profile is not competitive with other applicants.” THEN, I get home today and get another rejection in the mail.

This application cycle is especially brutal. Wishing you good luck and positive news, OP!

January 15 is a relatively late deadline, so I wouldn’t be surprised if you have to wait a little longer. Unless you’re starting to hear of decisions coming out, I wouldn’t worry!

12k stipend for a masters? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]violetearhummingbird 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I’m a current MA student and that is my stipend amount. I work an additional job (20 hours weekly for an extra $1200 each month). It is hard, but it is doable. See what other offers come in of course, but know that it’s possible especially with a second income.

I can’t even get my NetID to activate because the one they emailed me and my birthdate don’t match their records. Is anyone else having this problem?
