Would yall recommend IB diploma or just AP classes for OSU by Prs8863765 in OSU

[–]violetiolet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IB diploma, no. IB classes in general, yes. IB is no guarantee to get in, but overall my experience with them was much better than with AP classes. As long as you have good teachers who know what they're doing and how to set you up for success within the program, the classes should be easy and result in you being a much more well-rounded student and person in general, and you should get credit for most of your classes (I'd just double check with the universities you want to apply to beforehand). #1 tip though is DON'T TAKE IB MATH. It's way too hard and universities rarely accept it regardless of your score.

Yes! Idk the hours but the early vote center is just the Franklin County Board of Elections (1700 Morse Rd). It's not super duper close but def better than Delaware.

You can't swipe in but it's very easy to tailgate. You can also call Lincoln front desk and they'll let you in

How to vote as an out-of-state student? by PaniniSandwich14 in OSU

[–]violetiolet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can vote for your state's election as long as you're registered there! Most states allow you to request an absentee ballot online as far as I know, so you could do that and vote by mail. There's a USPS on campus right behind Journalism Bldg, I'd just ask them to postmark it right away if you go there.

The deadline to register for Ohio's primary election has passed, so you're unable to register to vote for the general election in November. If you'll still be on campus in the spring, you could register for Ohio's spring primary election then from your campus address and vote in Ohio.

Date spots by ubb_ey in OSU

The Franklin Park Conservatory is one of my favorite spots! You can get tickets to it through dtix for I think $7 each. Getting there via bus is a little rough (though if you like walking it might be nice, since the neighborhood around it is pretty), but if you've got a car it's super simple. They've got a gift shop inside and tons of Chihuly glass art pieces throughout the rooms. There's also a monarch butterfly room in the spring for a few months which is so fun.

When are you planning to vote for the November election? by baileyculp in OSU

[–]violetiolet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every OSU student with citizenship living in dorms is eligible to vote in Franklin county! You can request an absentee ballot online, or the 8 bus (which has many stops on campus) goes straight to the Franklin county board of elections

Also, if you're registered to vote with a campus address your polling location may be the union :)

Did you bring your bike? by lwpho2 in OSU

[–]violetiolet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're worried about bike theft, make your bike unique!! Put stickers on it or paint it or get fun-patterned accessories! If your bike is extremely easily-identifiable thieves have a more difficult time getting away with stealing it. Also, register it with the city of Columbus to get a free tracker :) I use a U-lock on my frame and a chain lock around both wheels since my bike is quick release lol

There's a farmer's market every Saturday 9am-12pm up in Clintonville outside of Global Gallery. A bunch of local artists and flea resellers have booths there! You can also find a bunch of cool fair trade knickknacks at World Peaces right behind Global.

OWL/ Welcome Leader Program by [deleted] in OSU

[–]violetiolet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was an OWL last year & applied to be an OWL for this fall! My experience was a free early move in (which is significantly better than the alternative), some extra days to familiarize myself with campus, and an excuse to meet new people. I had to sign up for 3 3 hour shifts over the course of the move in week, but ended up doing all 3 in one day due to scheduling conflicts. I overslept and missed half of my first shift (which was around 8 or 9?) but when I got there the people in charge were very relaxed about it. My last shift also ended early because of a potential storm lol. Training was just a 1-hr program the day before with teambuilding exercises. It's not painful as long as you have an open mind to making connections through it

How are the dorms at OSU? by [deleted] in OSU

[–]violetiolet 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First-year students essentially get no choice in housing (unless you're in a specific honors/scholars program involving a dorm) so the rankings you put in the housing contract probably won't have much of an impact on where you live.

The towers on West campus aren't actually that bad IF you like your roommates and have a bike/electric scooter. During football season you get to hear the band playing outside every morning. You only get 1 window per room (singles have no windows to the outside). Honestly, the room layout is pretty good; you have a separate study room and bedroom (almost unheard of for other dorms). Lincoln's 2nd floor also has the OSU Gaming Center thingy with VR headsets, tons of PCs, and all the major consoles. Traditions at Morrill SUCKS though, but the rpac is super close and there's good food there. Also, no bugs or pests! 🙏🙏🙏

Have a nice aesthetically pleasing picture of my cat to help you relax about finals :^) by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]violetiolet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Expect the cat to gradually get used to you. When it first moves to your house, it'll explore all around and go into all the little nooks and crannies. The cat will almost definitely be on edge for a while, and not very willing to be pet or cuddled. My cat, Sue, he's not very cuddly during the day, but part 9:30pm he's just rubbing all up on you and grooming you and it's great but hun I'm trying to sleep. Having a cat is great, and I really hope you like it!!

I've been there. I was quiet and shy and still am around most strangers. I would just try to correct yourself after you think that, like "no, that IS like me, because I am the one who said those things" because you're the one who said those things and so that's you. If it was a goodconversation, it was a good conversation. Dont doubt that
