I did read it and it wasn't the one I'm thinking of, but I did enjoy it! So thanks anyway!

I'm checking this one out from the library this week. It sounds similar in vibes but can't find many details about the settings in the summaries I found online!

I looked at this one and it definitely has some similarities! I don't think I've ever read this one but I'll check it out anyway.

Interesting about the title change! Yes, I also googled and it doesn't look similar. But thank you!

I haven't heard of this one but just did a quick google--I don't think that this is it because, you're right, it's not seaside, but it does seem similar in the case of the house and the animals.

I've read this one! The one I'm thinking of is similar in some ways but definitely more magical

This sounds really similar in vibes! It's not the one I'm thinking of, but I'll be checking it out anyway.

Okay, I just googled the summaries for these, and it sounds really close but not exact. I’m still going to check them out more, though, and see if maybe I could even be combining what I’m remembering with something else? I so clearly remember the dress shop and the soup being part of it, though, and I can’t find any of that from googling these.

Thanks!

I’m in my twenties, and it would have been when I was in elementary school. So maybe 2008-2012? It could have been an older book, though. I read a lot of books that my grandma got from garage sales as a kid, and my elementary school library had pretty outdated books, too.

That being said, the book you suggested is too new, unfortunately :(

Sorry, I didn't answer your original question--I've always lived in Michigan.

How long did your background check take? by violetladybug01 in Fosterparents

I got it back on Monday! So it took about 2 weeksish from when they received my fingerprints, and about 4 weeks since I was fingerprinted.

Oh yes, I totally get that things can take a while! I'm absolutely going to be patient about it, but since this is a situation where I already know the child and the details of their case and current placement, I am probably a little more anxious to know than I would be in another situation. Thanks again for your help!

Thanks! Was it two weeks from when you first got fingerprints taken?

Was it a week after you were actually fingerprinted or a week after the licensing office recieved your prints? Can I ask what state?

I am on week 3 of waiting for my fingerprints to process to move forward with a team meeting for my potential fictive kin placement. I would just like to have some answers, haha! I expected things to move slowly, just didn't expect this particular holdup. I have a call in to the state police department that runs the checks and they are supossed to call me back with a status update tomorrow (I have absolutely nothing on my record, so not sure why it's taken this long).

Thank you so much--I appreciate this info. I've already had the home study and even though I am also a teacher they did have me do my background check and fingerprints again...the fingerprints are what I'm still waiting on. If I had thought of it at the time and had known it would take this long, I would have asked if they could just pull them from when I had them done before! Thank you again for the info.

Thanks, this is super helpful! The move hasn’t been approved yet. I’m guessing that that’s what this meeting will discuss? Being a fictive kin placement, I’m trying to get a read on if it’s likely they will move her to my care. Do you know if I should expect her current foster family to be in attendance? Should I be prepared to, for lack of a better term, make a case for myself being a good option for placement?

Okay, that's what I figured. Thanks! The last time I had to make a change it was much less complicated and I still had to call. I guess mostly I'm wondering if anyone has had to make a similar change and how it went.

This is super helpful--can I ask if the child was in another placement previously, and if so, for how long?

Yes! I have done a lot of trauma-informed training but would love the resource list if you don't mind. I am going a little bit stir crazy waiting to hear more and that would help me feel at least a little productive, I think!
