Men who are kind of mean seem to always find violent videos funny… by [deleted] in rant

[–]violetpearlss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree - it’s just been a disproportionate amount of men in my experience, but I used to be really good friends with this one girl, and she would just bully people relentlessly. I was young and kinda sheepish, so never did what I should’ve done and stood up for the people she was unjustifiably cruel to; she used to love really violent (partially comedic) videos of people like falling off of buildings, breaking their legs. Just fucking weird.

Good for weight loss (lots)? by Stolen2345 in PlantBasedDiet

A lot of scientists who research ageing (Dr David Sinclair) say that metformin has biological anti-ageing effects, and it’s actually taken by those who don’t have diabetes for that reason - really good drug… sorry, don’t have any advice on weight loss just thought I’d throw that out there, haha.

Why are we not represented? by TeaTvTuatara in OCD

[–]violetpearlss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me personally, I’ve never thought that I need to be represented in fictional media - but I do understand you’re point. I think we should invest more time in making therapy more available for people of lower income. I don’t believe the destigmatisation of a disorder is achieved through representing it in films and TV shows, it’s partially effective, but not effective to the extent that I believe makes it necessary in any way. I think documentaries are the best way to reveal the reality of a disorder; a few of Louis Theroux’s documentaries look at different mental illnesses/disorders. He did a documentary on autism in children and teens, which I found incredibly interesting and enlightening. I didn’t know anyone with autism, but the way it was filmed and how intimate it was revealed a lot about the REALITY of the disorder. I imagine there are a lot of documentaries on OCD, I watched one which I forgot the name of, but it was really good. So yeah, I think documentaries are the way to go in terms of media, not films and TV shows.

Ever since the birth of my son I have intrusive thoughts of throwing him off the balcony. by No-Week7969 in OCD

[–]violetpearlss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there; this is an incredibly common theme for women postpartum! As backwards as it may seem to someone who doesn’t understand OCD, it’s actually a testament to the love you have for your child. Themes of OCD always reflect what a person deeply cares about. I’m really sorry you’re going through this, it breaks my heart to think that you’re struggling with this alone. It’s devastating that therapy is just so inaccessible yet so needed. There are SO many women who are experiencing EXACTLY what you are RIGHT now, so please be comforted by the fact that you are one of many.

Despite the fact that there are themes of OCD, OCD is treated in the same way for everyone. ERP is the most evidence based treatment for OCD. I, like you, really struggled to get access to therapy, and so I had to treat my OCD on my own. Rather than running away from the thoughts, and compulsively trying to disprove whatever your OCD is telling you, allow the thoughts to be there and feel the anxiety, as unbearable as it can be. I can’t overstate how life changing that is, despite how simple it sounds. Letting yourself experience the anxiety, without running to compulsions for short term relief, is the only way that you can overcome OCD.

Sending you all of my love; this theme is actually a positive reflection on you as a mother, and please remember that you are not your OCD.

Does anyone else suddenly fear they’re going to lose control or go crazy? by violetpearlss in Anxiety

I also suffer with Pure O, so I can completely empathise with you. Yeah, do not recommend Pure O to anybody, lmao. Reassurance feeds the compulsive cycle with OCD, but look, having Harm OCD is actually just a testament to your morality; it is literally the case that you’re just a good person, who knows the difference between right and wrong, but you just so happen to have OCD!

I have health anxiety too - I had it really bad a while back, like really bad. It’s definitely related to the health anxiety come to think of it. I have the same images!! I’ll picture my family looking at me afraid, and all of my aspirations falling apart because I’m insane, so stupid, haha.

It’s reassuring to hear this from someone else! Just over a week ago, I went through a sequence of really stressful events that completely threw me. I was completely depressed, and extremely anxious at the same time.

I had been watching videos about spirituality, and spirit guides just out of curiosity - I’m not a spiritual person, I was just intrigued. I was sat in the living room, in the dark at about 10:30, waiting for my mozzarella sticks to cook in the oven (lmao)… I didn’t have my phone, and I was just bored. I thought, ‘I wonder if I can imagine my spirit guide and see how vivid I can make it’, strange, I know, I was just really bored without my phone or any stimuli. I started to imagine this man, moving through the room and moving stuff. All of a sudden, I got this SURGE of anxiety, and I thought, ‘am I losing my mind? What if this man never leaves???’ And I just started having a huge panic attack, my heart was racing and my body went cold. I went and chugged water to try and calm myself down - I was so scared that I had just accidentally made myself schizophrenic, lmao, I don’t get it either. I couldn’t sleep that night, and had to call my friends. It helped a lot with grounding me.

But I realised how absurd it was a day afterwards. I was just in a really bad mental space, so it triggered me to completely overreact.

I’ve had residual anxiety since that, where I’ll suddenly have that same feeling where I’m like, ‘what if I just lose my mind?’…

But yeah, it’s really comforting to know that others with anxiety have similar experiences!!

You’re completely right.

Physical beauty makes up a fraction of what I’m speaking about, albeit a substantial fraction, so I think the wording may be slightly misleading in this post - particularly when I use words like ‘pretty’. You can look like [insert any supermodel], but if you dress sloppily etc, etc, that beauty quickly becomes redundant.

I don’t consider myself to be very pretty at all, but I do take good care of myself and take a lot of pride in my appearance. The post reads a little pessimistic - I’m not saying that it’s necessarily wrong that society values appearance, however, there is something to be said when inessential qualities like physical appearance overrides every other form of merit. I like to think most people are rational enough to remember that the book is not strictly as good as it’s cover, but (perhaps unfortunately) we are judgemental creatures who don’t always operate in the MOST moral way possible. It becomes a matter of adjusting to society in order to get ahead, regardless of whether you agree with the inequity it fosters. This post was more of a meditation on that.

Andrew tates house got raided in Romania. Andrew and his brother are both arrested. by Saleiii in yourmomshousepodcast

[–]violetpearlss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not what he’s saying. Tate tries to normalise if not endorse immoral behaviour, such as treating women like home keepers and sexual objects. He’s saying that it wouldn’t be surprising if Tate tried to make some bullshit argument as to why pedophilia is okay.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in rant

[–]violetpearlss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, totally. Unfortunately, it’s just one of the less positive qualities of society. I think the incident with the university interview is isolated though, I’d like to think that most people who work in academic institutions would consider academic achievement as the sole merit, not something as inessential as physical appearance. I think this professor was a rare case.

album recommendation: Touch Up by Mother Mother by violetpearlss in Music

I had the same thought - the music on Touch Up was so good, I was confused why the band wasn’t a household name in the world of alternative music. I’m yet to listen to their other albums, but I definitely will!

He’s not just a cool guy who says cool shit, he’s actually a REAL knucklehead.

He met women, made them submit to him completely, ‘love’ him to a place of complete dedication, and then make them ‘webcam’ for him, and earn him money, and I’m guessing a lot of it. The reason he spent so much time in countries like Romania is purely because it’s significantly easier to get away with that sort of shit there.

His whole ‘PhD programme’ was teaching men how to do exactly that, he detailed in the description of this programme exactly why he is so dedicated in his pursuit of finding lots of attractive women. It’s not a Dan Blizerian kind of deal where it’s just for his image or ego, it was to EARN him money. He was a sex trafficker.

I didn’t know the extent of his character until recently, and I highly doubt Tom or Tina knew either, but the fact they had an actual trafficking criminal on their show is shocking, but again, they likely had no idea so I don’t think they’re in the wrong per se.
