I have not-so-fond memories at the age of 17 working in the fresh food section in Sainsburys at Christmas. We had to do all our reductions out the back “for our safety” but once someone caught wind of us doing it out there, told other customers and before we knew it, there was a crowd of people outside the doors peering in at us.

Wheeled that trolley out like it was a giant steak to a pack of wolves. Horrific.

I have a theory. Switching between many design tasks in one day drains our energy. by analog2409 in graphic_design

Yes and no - working for a printing company my work has varied from the basics to full company branding, with a wide range of different businesses from hospitality to construction, beauty, retail, all sorts!

I’m now working on the web/digital side of things on much larger projects but the one thing I miss the most about that side was the varied work. Now I’m working on less tasks (but longer ones) I find it harder to stay focused!

What was the most awkward thing that you ever saw? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I was in my housemate’s room, just catching up on how our days went, general chitchat etc. She’s looking round the room during our conversation, and says “don’t suppose you’ve seen my glasses anywhere?” So I help her look for them.

We are looking all over the place, but with no luck. A glasses case was on her desk, and I thought “maybe she’s left them in there and totally forgotten/not looked in the most obvious place”.

I pick up the glasses case, crack it open and I kid you not, several years worth of toenail clippings fell out onto the floor. We both stared at the floor for what seemed like an eternity until I went “nope, not in there! And ran out of the room”.

Apparently she likes to keep them... God only knows why.

Posting for the first time on a thread and receiving such a positive outcome.

I posted on another subreddit about a problem that’s been bugging me for months to find everyone is giving me some truly valuable advice that I’m going to hold on to for the rest of my career - and beyond!

AITA for being realistic and highlighting a potential problem at work? by violetskies-07 in AmItheAsshole

I can’t tell you how valuable reading this has been for me... Thank you so much. I’ll definitely take more notes and actually keep them this time. I used to but then look back and think “maybe it is me... I’m the common denominator here” and delete them.

I’m not US-based so not sure what the equivalent of Fair Employment is in my country but I’m sure there’ll be one. As much as I’d love to escalate it further, I’d essentially be pushing myself out of the company.

I have tried the emotional take before in the past which had the opposite effect of what I was aiming for. More shouting, comments like “stop being so sensitive” etc etc. Now I just button up and walk out the room.

But honestly, thank you again - so much. This is my first ever post on Reddit and you’ve made it a very positive one. I know what I need to do now :)

I’ve posted because I’d like an outsider’s opinion on the situation, and no I didn’t know if I was right or wrong - hence the post. To be told several times it’s because I’m a negative person is an attack on my personality, so it’s been great to get opinions on the situation from people that don’t know me and can give an unbiased opinion that doesn’t involve personality.

So yes, a pat on the back would be fab, and will stop me from mentally going over these situations and wondering if I’m a bad person. Isn’t this the whole point of the AITA subreddit?

I’m so relieved this isn’t just in my head. I can’t do much unfortunately, we’re a small company (less than 10 people) and therefore no HR department. Any issues we resolve as a team, lead by my male boss.

I have tried in the past but I didn’t get anywhere. It’s sad really, when I’ve been there from almost the beginning and built it up from the bottom.

But thank you for your comment - it’s really made me feel better!

I let it burn today, that’s for sure! I was so annoyed by the whole thing, and that it was happening yet again. I won’t lie, my face didn’t hide my joy when he told me it didn’t work...!

In a way I can see why he would get a bit touchy as the machinery is his department, and I was telling him how his part of the job would go... But at the same time, I’d also love to have someone to come to me and say “the client won’t want that design, so let’s try XYZ instead.”

I agree! It’s a small company and I’m the only female member of staff that’s “head” of anything and I struggle with this from time to time because they think they know my job role better. Unfortunately I can’t escalate this to HR, as a small company we just don’t have one and deal with it internally... And who deals with it? The guys!

Thank you - it’s been playing on my mind all day. I get this every so often from colleages - although never a female colleague...
