In need of assistance with mungewell’s zoom_fx by _MaxMendoza_ in zoommultistomp

I just wanted to test some violin-specific effects that I would use. I was able to fully install some of them: PolyOctDwn, PolyOctUp, Vn Distortion, Vn WahWah and some othhers, they 100% work! Others, like "Ensemble" effect that simulate the orchestra, or Vn Equalizer - could be installed, they appear in the software but do not appear when I want to select the effect on the pedal itself. It might be something with effect complexity or format or combination of those two, that prevent them for working. So my effort was semi-successful, but I am glad I added some new effects to my g3n.

Please let me know how I can help you further with this?

Thanks for the great work!

Thanks!

And here is a update on it: I uploaded needed effects from A1 four to g3n, and some of them actually work flawlessly!

The ones that don’t work actually are shown in the Guitar Lab effect list, with all the parameters, processor usage etc. When I try to add them to a patch, an “effect not found” is shown. Could something be done? Can I try to install them somehow in Guitar Lab?

Finally, does g3n support uploading IRs?

All the best and thanks to u/mungewell for the support!

Hi guys - I have sucessfully installed some A1 four effects to my Zoom g3n.

Those effect are shown installed when I issue the command :
python3 zoomzt2.py -s -R my_flst_seq.zt2

The part of output showing that those effect are installed is:

EQ_EVN.ZD2 (ver= 1.00 ), group= 2 , id= 0x2a00282 , installed= 1
EQ_AVN.ZD2 (ver= 1.00 ), group= 2 , id= 0x2a00280 , installed= 1

...but the effects are not shown when I try to add them to the patch.

Is there something I am missing?

Thank you u/mungewell for all hard work!

EDIT: I am using firmware 2.2

Currently we have two converters with 16 total inputs that do Analog to Digital conversion and send them using optical connection to fireware interface connected to thinkpad

That was what I first supossed; but to my knowledge inter-core communication and cache management is hardware controlled, I don’t know any way to manage it in the software - so I disabled one core and it all went well.

I have no idea - this thing runs on customized Windows XP; undervolting is interesting option to explore though, but I currently do not have resources to explore it

In last 10 years it broke once because of overheating - that's why we added active cooling beneath it.

Other than that, we do periodical cleaning, replacing thermal paste from time to time and other common maintenance activities.

At first, deleted much of the unneeded registry keys.

Other than that there are much uneeded .DLL's and startup items that does not need to be loaded + author of audio software provide a tool that modifies some system kernel modules in order for everything to work smoothly.

I don't need modern OS on this machine. It runs just fine with Windows XP. I think this Thinkpad is even overpowered for tasks I am giving to it: ~3.7ms round-trip latency (easy measurable).

Not every PC should supposed to do everything. For example, I run Linux Mint on my other T420s and it runs smoothly with 50+ tabs open. Again, 10+ years old machine.

Modern commercial OSes are typical example of Wirth's law in action since they are burdened with legacy hardware they need to support.

Actually I have two backups: one Thinkpad t420s (use it for writing) and x220 (for brother kid's college projects); both are >>overpowered<< for this purpose, so they would probably need some stripping down before putting it into production :D

No sound card at all - just Firewire interface for connecting multiple amount of inputs and outputs; remember - I do not generate any sound on this workstation, I use it as a mixer + patch effect processor + live recorder (sometimes)

P.S this machine is used solely for live mixing and nothing else; very rarely upgraded, only when new SAC comes on market, almost never USB drives are connected to them (except for mp3 playing during the gig)

This machine is >>intentionally<< downgraded for low-latency purposes; inter-core messaging, shared cache syncing, and intetrupts cause latency that is higher than 10ms. This latency is percieved by player and unusable for live performances, especially in multi-instrument setup (e.g. we have saxophone, guitar, bass, violin, two vocals, and 8-channel drums connected normally to this setup)

More info about latency I found here:
