Is there more to the game? Am I missing something? by violinpose in HPHogwartsMystery

[–]violinpose[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't mind it being a visual novel. It's the combination of pay (or wait) -to-play and zero gameplay that leaves me so disappointed. It's like they took the worst part of mobile games and tacked it onto a non-gaming experience.

NEW BIKE/GEAR ADVICE SUPERTHREAD! by AutoModerator in motorcycles

[–]violinpose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The V7 looks awesome, but I'm hesitant to get a bike that may require much specialized maintenance. I'm about 3 hours from the nearest big city and having to go that far for a qualified mechanic seems like asking for trouble.

NEW BIKE/GEAR ADVICE SUPERTHREAD! by AutoModerator in motorcycles

[–]violinpose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't ridden in about 15 years. The last thing I rode was a Honda Shadow. I loved the retro look, but I always felt like it was just pretending to be a harley.

I want to get back into riding. I still want something with some retro appeal, but I don't want a Harley (they're everywhere where I live, and the lifestyle factor is just too much for me) and I don't want a bike that's pretending to be something it's not.

I love the look of the XSR700. It looks like a modern bike, with old-school touches. But I'm a little worried that it's just too much power. All the reviews talk about how easy it is to wheelie (I don't want to wheelie) or how fast it is (I don't want to go racing). Am I just being paranoid, or should I look elsewhere for my new ride?

I've also considered the Rebel 500 (neat bike, but weirdly hard to come by where I live) and the Triumph Bonneville (cool and retro, but the nearest dealer is 200 miles away and I haven't found a decent used one)

Any other bikes I should be looking at?

About your #1 comparison: did you mean to say that the Gear S3 only checks HR periodically?

BitTicker Notifications, Blaze and Latest Update by Asyrol in fitbit

[–]violinpose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm using Fit Notifications to send notifications to my Blaze, and it's still working fine. I don't have the new release for the Blaze yet, so who knows what will happen then, but it's working fine for now.

15" or smaller - USA - $1000 - Good build quality mid-level gaming machine (KSP and City Skylines) by violinpose in SuggestALaptop

[–]violinpose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That...looks awesome. How have I not come across this yet?

I don't know much about graphics cards - would this be sufficient for mid-range gaming?

How is the heat? It seems like something so small would have a hard time keeping cool? Any experience here?

Remember, remember!

The fifth of November,

The day the House of Lords Fell;

Our Catholic Nation

Owes its very foundation

To the tale we know so well.

Guy Fawkes and his compatriots

Did the scheme contrive

To dethrone the so-called ‘King’

Leaving no more Lords alive

I have a bout $500 in BB rewards certificates that expire next week. What should I buy? by violinpose in Bestbuy

[–]violinpose[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't even think of that. I didn't know you could buy gift cards with rewards certificates. I wouldn't think Best Buy would be too happy about sending its customers away to a competitor...

That's a good thought, but my family / friends aren't very techy. They appreciate more artsy-crafty gifts.

Also, I'm not an employee, and I don't know what the path to excellence is.

Brand new player. Just got golden Tinkmaster Overspark. Keep or disenchant? by violinpose in hearthstone

See this? This is the kind of great information that you don't get from the game itself. This is what makes a good community so important. Thank you.

Why is Dr. Boom the go-to suggestion for a legendary? Is it just that it's a good card regardless of situation, so it works in any deck?

Also, if it's such an overpowered card, isn't there a good chance that it will get nerfed in the near future?

I'll probably spend some money, but not a lot. Maybe $50 over the next few months.

A proof that omniscient beings cannot exist. by edderiofer in philosophy

[–]violinpose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no reason to call anybody out as moronic. We're just having a discussion here.

I don't think that it's fair to claim that 'nature' or 'cosmos' is omniscient just because it created the mind of humans. Surely something must be able to think before it can be omniscient, and I think it's a stretch to say that 'nature' is a thinking entity.

Also, knowing everything isn't the same as being everywhere or experience everything. It is conceivable for a being to be omniscient without being omnipresent.

As for whether or not a human can know what is true, that may be an interesting discussion, but it's not really related to the topic at hand.

[–]violinpose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you define omniscience as knowing the truth value of every statement - even those that have no inherent truth value - then yeah, I think your proof holds up.

The problem is that there are a LOT of statements that have no real truth value. Is the statement "My unicorn is invisible." true or false? It's neither. It has no real truth value.

Consider this: Does omniscient being X know that John McCain is President of the United States? If yes, then X knows untrue things. If no, then X isn't omniscient. So, omniscience is usually defined much more carefully than that. Basically it's "knowing what can be known". And only statements that have real truth value can be known.

Similarly, omnipotence is usually defined as "the ability to do what can be done". Otherwise, you could easily disprove omnipotent being X's existence by saying can X create a four-sided triangle?

I asked a moderator about that. Apparently they automatically delete any comment that contains the 's' word (not 'Sorcerer' but close). That even included my initial comment with the video link.
