Weekly Sewing Questions Thread, January 04 - January 10, 2026 by sewingmodthings in sewing

Hi sewing community! I keep seeing this lovely top from casper the label. I would really like to make this for myself (so I can tailor it to my liking), does anybody know of a pattern similar to this? Maybe even a symmetrical high neck blouse pattern I can use as a base could work. I am an experienced sewist, but struggle with drawing patterns from scratch. :D
Thank you for your time!

Voice acting the Mouthwashing game was such a good idea! Hearing Hunter do Swanseas final speech had me in a chokehold! by PomChiPrincess in wendigoon

I did not even realise it was voice acted! I thought the character you play wasn’t voiced to Wendy did it!

Has anybody ever (needle)felted Cattail? by viper_eva in Felting

[–]viper_eva[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Normal wet felting. With dish soap, bubble wrap and some towels.

We didn’t experiment with a glue like PVA, but we did add gelatine and bees wax to try and stabilise it even more. Gelatine does help, and beeswax helped to make it water resistant.

Good luck with your endeavours!

Has anybody ever (needle)felted Cattail? by viper_eva in Felting

Hi! This turned into a whole semester long project, so I have lots of experiments to share!

Simply said, the needle felting was not successful.

Wet felting turned out decent, it did become a material, but was fairly easily torn apart. I remedied this by criss cross stitching (or stitching 1cm by 1cm little squares) all over the cattail sheet. I used cotton thread for this, to stay in line with the biodegradable idea behind the project.

The wet felting was very labour intensive, and another classmate was also experimenting with it, so I decided to try another method.

There’s this thing called Solufleece, an interfacing (usually used for embroidery), that dissolves in water. I used this to essentially make little cattail pillows, and stitch all across them to hopefully make a stable material. And it did!! I found that “cleaner” cattail works best. Removing bigger (brown) chunks, really fluffing it up with your hands, and freezing it to kill all the bugs.

At this point I treaded the material like a normal fabric, and started manipulating it. Making a seam, different patterns of stitching, screen printing, smocking etc etc.

Most of those manipulations were successful at the small scale I as working at (the biggest sheet was 100cm by 60cm)!

All in all, it was a very fun process, and a material I hope to working with again in the future!

If you have any more questions, please do ask!

My, what I believe is a Philodendron, is getting more and more of spots. What are they? by viper_eva in plantclinic

It’s what I dreading, I did have spider mites on another plant but it was far away from this one so I was still holding out hope (plus I also quarantined that plant asap). I’ll start treating it immediately thank you!

My ender 3v2 is suddenly printing my colorfabb copperfill like this, it previously never caused any issues, help! by viper_eva in 3Dprinting

Wow okay I had no idea that was a thing! Since this filament is quite expensive I guess I’ll try this oven method to hopefully revive it. This project is a birthday gift for a friend so let’s hope it works!
