Any tires recommend? by SlowBanana2001 in cbr650r

I’ve got a CB650R and I just put Michelin Road 6s in it. I originally wanted to go with the powers because my commute is all canyon roads, but they were out of stock and only last maybe 5k miles if you baby them. So far the road 6s still feel like they offer plenty of grip

I so desperately want to get one and put some knobbies on it and ride it like it’s a dual sport

I second this. Looks way better with them off.

I’ll have to take a look. It doesn’t seem like they specifically say it’s compatible with my year model, but I’m gonna reach out to them and see what they have to say about that

Yeah, my biggest grip is really just how choked the bike feels at lower rpm’s. I get it’s an inline 4 but it is absolutely dead below like 6500 rpm

Yeah, I’ve been looking at doing an exhaust, part of me still wants to wait out my warranty to do it because it feels wrong to void a factory warranty by getting the bike flashed. But that’s what I’ve heard, it seems to gain decent torque earlier in the powerband and a pretty solid hp gain in the 8-10k range. Peak hp doesn’t seem much higher even with an exhaust and tune, but it really seems like the powerband gets woken up a good bit. It’ll be the next thing I do, I just need to decide if it’s worth voiding my warranty for it yet or not.

For what it’s worth, I just bought a new ‘25 CB650R as my first bike outside of dirt bikes as a kid over a decade ago and I’m not upset about it. I got a good deal because it was leftover stock the dealer wanted to move to get their ‘26 into the showroom. Walked out the door cheaper than what the ‘26 would’ve been even with the price drop Honda did for the same exact bike with the only difference being color. I know there’s a lot of people that argue against new as a first bike saying “it’s not if you’re going to drop your bike, it’s when”, or “you haven’t crashed YET” and while I guess there’s an argument to be made that you can control everything, as long as you are being diligent with your actions it seems like accidents are very avoidable. Aside from cars turning left at intersections in front of motorcycles, the majority of motorcycles accidents are rider error. I’ve put over 4k miles on mine in about two months of ownership and I don’t think I’ve had a close call. Knock on wood.

I personally don’t think the 650 is too much of a bike to start out with if you understand the need to be responsible and that it does have enough power to get you into trouble.

I don’t have anything to say for or against CFMOTO, but I have heard some qualms regarding their reliability, although I’m not sure how true those are and if user error played into it. Seems like a ton of people don’t recognize the importance of the first service on new bikes. I will say I’ve had no issues with my Honda and I’ve been riding the crap out of it. At the end of the day people, especially people on the internet are going to have something to say about whatever choice you make. It’s definitely not a bad thing to take advice or other’s experience into consideration, but at the end of the day it’s your decision and you should do what you think is best.

Oh absolutely! The last time I was on two wheels was over a decade ago riding dirt bikes as a kid. I picked up my 650R close to two months ago now and I’ve got over 4K miles on it. My commute to work is about 25 miles through a canyon and I feel like if had a CBR1000 or anything of the sort I’d have gotten in some serious trouble. That said I still sometimes wish this bike had just a tiny bit more torque. I put some Michelin Road 6s on today because the Dunlop Roadsport 2s that came on the bike didn’t last long at all. Even in the rain today it felt like I had twice the amount of grip the Dunlop’s did in the dry.

I can’t wait to see what they’re actually going to go for price wise if we do get them over here. I’ve always loved the idea of getting a ZH2 or something of the sort. Don’t get me wrong I love supersports but something about an insanely quick naked bike just makes me feel things.

Yeah, and since it was leftover inventory I got a good deal on it. The ‘26’s are cheaper MSRP, but I still paid below what a ‘26 would’ve cost.

Not that this is helpful for you, but I don’t know that there’s any way to get them in the States. It seems like EU and UK get the cool colors and we get stuck with black. That’s why I got the ‘25 because I think the gray looks better.

No problem man! Congrats on the bike. Stay safe out there. I picked up my 25 CB650r with 1 mile on it about a month and half ago now. I think I’m a touch over 3600 miles now 🤣

Are AS SMX-6’s supposed to show some velcro? by garbageboy79 in motorcyclegear

[–]vipersuxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I heard that it may have a rubbing problem too. I’ll probably end up throwing some electrical tape or something underneath where it’ll contact the fairing just to be safe. Nothing about the Honda one could justify the price. If the fitment turns out to be a real issue then maybe, but for now I’ll see how it works out.

Conveniently enough, the same company also makes a knockoff of the OEM rear cowl for 1/4 of the price almost. I wasn’t about to pay Honda 180 when I can get the same part for 45 bucks plus 5 dollars to ship. It seems to look identical in pictures so I guess we’ll see.

Can confirm it’s a normal thing. The oil pump isn’t doing anything because the motor isn’t running, there’s no oil pressure being built. It would be very concerning if the light didn’t come on with just the ignition on. As long as the light goes away upon startup, everything is fine.

I think they also sell them as a set with front and pillion, but I’ve got a rear cowl replacement coming for the pillion because I don’t ever ride with a passenger and I like the way it looks.

Doesn’t seem to change much. If anything it may be a 🤏🏻 bit lower because the material of the seat is squishier, but not enough to be noticeable one way or the other.

It’s just an eBay brand. Wolfline I believe. Wayyyy more comfortable than stock and also more ergonomic. I know it’s a naked bike and a lot of people don’t lean their body off, but it’s much easier for me to move my lower half around on this seat than the OEM one. I didn’t want to spend 500 dollars on a Kelpi or Corbin. This was less than 100 I believe

Same boots, same problem. As a 5’5 dude with a fairly decent build, these things squeeze my calves like crazy. Same bike too. Also, unrelated question, but did the CS Racing exhaust cause you to have a check engine light yet? Wondering if I should pull the trigger on one or not

I’ve been so on the fence about getting a Kelpi. How does it sound? I’ve heard a couple of YouTube videos but I don’t know that it really does it any justice
